Bruce,
I was just wondering what kind of stuff you have in mind to do with the new editor and the game. Is there any way to rid all the extra load screens like the "are you sure you want to race this track?" screen. I figure its not possible on that but what about the editor can you guy's get us some new Eco systems like a desert look and the forest look. I'm don't see a way of resizing those Giant Redwoods unless I'm over looking it. Let us know and don't keep all the secrets to yourselves. Inquiring minds want to know. I'm working on a desert track so if you have something come up let me know it need some Cactus trees and sage brushes. ;)

And I'm curious if you've attempted custom objects.

I know some of those answers Mike, but I'll save it for Bruce or someone else to answer.

Hey Mike(mach) I believe Laurie is working on a DilloToo for MVA which will allow us to use the MCM2 and MXU vegitation (or is it just MXU?)

So that is very good news!

DirtTwister

Laurie is more qualified to answer the question about his revised Dillo Too for MVA.

Custom objects will require the ability to create a proper DXT and DXG file.

Trees should be possible.  The stock nationals have an ESB file.  As long as there isn't anything in the game that would stop it from working, we should be able to add those things.

I've been playing with adding activities.  I got SuperMoto to show up in the game but the AI were only riding in a tight circle.

It will be a time consuming process to figure out what we can do and what we can't.   We have a lot of testing to do to figure stuff out.

Sounds good. I just started to have mine crash on me now on this track I'm playing with. It will only crash when I try to export it or test but it loads ok.
Mike

Oh God memories of the old dillo are coming back!!!  :)

BPh

Take your time guys, we were patient to have a new game... we can wait some more weeks :)

mcm2boys

Lots of things with the new editor should be possible as long as Rainbow haven't done anything 'special' to the code they use to load User made tracks. Like Bruce said EcoSystems will be possible and if so then we should be able to use EcoSystems from MCM2/MXU and MvA eventually. I hope we will be able to unlock a lot of the features from the stock tracks that are not currently supported by the Rainbow editor. From what i've seen so far we should be able to pretty much carry on from what we had in MCM2 along with a few more features which MvA brings us.

how about this 30 max FPS thing i've been hearing about? any idea's on how to crack or eliminate it?

R.I.P Bob you will always be remembered

Do you think it would ever be possible to create 2 different kinds of traction, 1 for asphault and 1 for dirt?

That's what I want also.

This really isn't something you want to do. With how integrated our physics are now, you wouldn't get the results that you would want by going over. This also keeps people on a level playing field.

Fixer

So if I have a computer thats capable of playing Quake 4  at 1600x1200 with everything on and getting over 60fps  I won't get more than 30fps with this game?

What about guys that have 2- Nvidia 7800's in SLI?

30FPS makes me seasick after a while and it's really not "as good as it gets"

I'm all for a level playing field but I'm not getting a very good return on my hardware investment w/30 fps.

How about setting's for 30,40,50 & 60?

Looney

Apparently theres a patch on the way, hopefully you'll get what you want....

VMX_D-Dub

Looney, NO!
Did you not read what faktor said? He said there was a 30 fps lock because online play would be crazy unfair, and I agree. It's not like we are getting a 5 fps lock here people. It pisses me off that people complain so much about little things when we've been begging for something like this for the past few years.

Dude, pointing out what a lot of people see as a flaw isn't moaning and whining, if you can't tell the difference between 30 fps and 60 fps then you aren't affected, the truth is people are different and 30fps is the bare amount needed to make a video watchable. I can't tell much difference when the frame rate gets up into the 50-60 range but as it is- going fast around corners with the camera sweeping a large amount of ground there are not enough frames to cover the action and what I see is stuttering in the game. That's why some companies shoot for 60fps it just looks smoother to everybody.

I've been waiting for 6 years for something new, but I can't even buy this game in a store around here, I'm still waiting for the second order I made for this game. I'm very happy for you that you are so pleased but if opinions aren't shared then the developers won't know what people think. I'm not alone in my opinion about the frame rates.

I'm still glad that the game came out for the PC, I've got all the console versions but again the quality of the visuals have kept me from enjoying them, I can only play for so long before it just gets to me. I could play MCM2 for hours as long as I was getting at least 40 fps---- 60+fps and I was in heaven.

Online play has already been compromised by cheaters in case you haven't noticed. One thing all the online racers don't realize is a lot of people that buy this game didn't buy it to race online, why should they have to accept frame rates reduced to the bare minimum. A lot of us have the hardware and don't like to see it bottlenecked by the game we are playing. If we were really worried about making racing online fair then there are alot more important issues to consider other than the frame rates.

With that kind a of reasoning then why not set the frames @ 10fps then everyone with a computer built in the last 15 years could play? I feel sorry for people that only get 20-30 fps in a game because that isn't "state of the art". That is what you can sell on a console and get away with.

Im sorry if my "complaining" (where is it, btw?)  is getting you pissed, but thats your problem, not mine.

Like it or not Mx vs atv PC, still has the limitations of the console versions, because rainbow couldnt be arsed/didnt have time to fix them. Hopefully the patch will address these issues.

TBH your post reminded me of a few fanboy's in my other main game i play, liveforspeed.

They dont like people "complaining, moaning, or bitching" about the bad things in "their" game they so dearly love either, and will have no problems biting your head off if you dare to say a bad word about "their" game, no matter how obvious the "Bugs" are.  ;)

...30fps is the bare amount needed to make a video watchable....
Quote

You must hate watching movies, because the NTSC standard for cinematic movies is 29.97fps.  And you better be glad you don't live abroad, because the PAL standard is 24.6fps.  But if you do live abroad, then I feel for your super eyes. :o

O.K.
Here's the part where I make an ass out of myself.  The thread prompted me to do a little research, and here is part of what I found:

"NVIDIA a computer video card maker who recently purchased 3dFx another computer video card maker just finished a GPU(Graphics Processing Unit) for the XBOX from Microsoft. Increasing amounts of rendering capabilities and memory as well as more transistors and instructions per second equate to more frames per second in a Computer Video Game or on Computer Displays in general. There is no motion blur, so the transition from frame to frame is not as smooth as in movies, that is at 30 FPS. In example, NVIDIA/3dfx put out a demo that runs half the screen at 30 fps, and the other half at 60 fps. The results? - there is a definite difference between the two scenes; 60 fps looking much better and smoother than the 30 fps."

Yes, 30 is the standard for TV- movies but dont' try to confuse the issue with facts ;D--------- Of course that standard is ancient.

The overwhelming solution to a more realistic game play, or computer video has been to push the human eye past the misconception of only being able to perceive 30 FPS. Pushing the Human Eye past 30 FPS to 60 FPS and even 120 FPS is possible, ask the video card manufacturers, an eye doctor, or a Physiologist. We as humans CAN and DO see more than 60 frames a second.

Don't underestimate your own eyes Buddy...

The USAF, in testing their pilots for visual response time, used a simple test to see if the pilots could distinguish small changes in light. In their experiment a picture of an aircraft was flashed on a screen in a dark room at 1/220th of a second. Pilots were consistently able to "see" the afterimage as well as identify the aircraft. This simple and specific situation not only proves the ability to percieve 1 image within 1/220 of a second, but the ability to interpret higher FPS.

It used to be 60fps was the gold standard that arcade machines played at... why is 30fps suppossed to be acceptable 10-20 years later?

Thanks for that article I remember reading this same thing a few years back.

The_Trevinator

yes, after reading that article I'm sold on higher frame rates.
