Hi TwistedDIRT; I've come here to ask about an issue i've been having with loading heightmaps into digital earthworks.

The problem is when I import a grey scale heightmap, even in .psd format, it doesn't work at all, the displayed heightmap is not even visible in the editor.
How do you get it to export as the green contour style heightmap for use with digital earthworks?

Thanks,
Tarot.

I think your problem is that you just use the wrong scale. DE is using the black-white (or 16bit leveller) heightmap. I personally dont even know why DE "saves" it as that grenn black thing.. I'd watch some tutorials/read through C4's track building document if you want to know more about heightmap stuff ;)

I'm using a scale of 1 when I import it, but even with say, 0.01, it still just looks like a yellowed version of the grey scale heightmap in the preview and glitches out bad.
It says its 16 bit as well which has me scratching me head.

i dont think that you know the purpose of the scaling ;)

2048 / SCALE = Maximum elevation

That means if you put in a scale of 1 you have 2048ft of elevation (DE isnt glitched) with scale 0,01 you have ~200.000ft of elevation which is higher than mt. everest (29028)
So if you are making a sx track just use something like 30-60 (i think that that works best for normal sx tracks). For nationals it can be lower but unless you have leveller i wouldnt go under scale 20 (it will get stairsteppy).

Hope that this helped :)

Thank you, that did the trick! Definitly got confused about scaling I guess.
I don't know how to take any revealing photos in game outside of just a gameplay shot so I can't show the resulting track well so I uploaded a test one here: http://reflex-central.com/betatrack_profile.php?track_id=354
