Did you try running as admin or under compatability mode for an earlier windows version?

DE may not be compatible with W10 but I would be surprised, would be interestng to hear from anyone else who has tried to run DE under win10. Reading around this seems like a common problem, and it seems that files in the OS are either missing or corrupted - how they corrupt on a new install I don't know but that seems to be the issue. Search on "win10 the application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b) " and you will find some solutions.

The most likely would be to install or more likely re-install/repair DirectX. Does Reflex run without errors?

This guy found a solution that worked for him: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-other_settings/windows-error-0xc000007b/3933c823-7a63-4356-8ef5-69fcc0ed18f3 which basically copies the DX files to where they need to be - if that is your problem.

i let microsoft tech support on remote access and they mucked around for an hour trying to fix it but they said everything is fine as far as they can see.

It's not that i don't trust MS tech support, but it's possible they missed something, but without more information i can't do much more to help get DE or the skin packager working for you. So if this is just intended as a bug report then i'll file it under test with win10.

I would be surprised if both programs stopped working because of bugs - it does suggest that the problem is more likely with the system than the programs.

Lemiwinks

yeah thanks for your help ill just keep chipping away, its a shame i was really starting to improve on trackbuilding

mcm2boys

Can you remember what the techs looked at or what they thought the problem might be?

the physx drivers, nvidia drivers, 64wow files and sys32 files

mcm2boys

If the PhysX drivers were missing DE will give you a msg about that not just fail.

Here's an option for you if you up for trying something:
You can use a program called Dependency Walker to see which other files DE loads and which of them might be causing problems by being missing or the wrong version (x64 instead of x86). You can find the program here: http://www.dependencywalker.com/

Download the x86 version, it's just a zip file - so unzip it somewhere safe, either your desktop or make a folder in Program files (x86) for example - DependencyWalker and save it there.

Then run the depends.exe file and click on File | Open and then navigiate to the folder that contains DigitalEarthworks.exe and open it. You don't need to run DE just depends.exe.

Now see what it says - here's a screen shot of what it looks like on my machine (and DE runs on this machine) - if yours is different then that might point to where the problem is. The 2 warnings are normal, as well as the list of files listed as 'Error opening file...' - anything else could be the problem.

If you need any help or find a possible cause then just let me know..

Lemiwinks

Will definitely give it a go and let you know how i get on, already got a track laid out and ready to work on.

http error 503 site must be down for a bit. will try in the morning, thanks for the suggestion

Edit - heres the log in the bottom...

Error: At least one required implicit or forwarded dependency was not found.
Error: At least one module has an unresolved import due to a missing export function in an implicitly dependent module.
Error: Modules with different CPU types were found.
Warning: At least one delay-load dependency module was not found.

OK looks like we do have a problem then. Can you see which module has the error, usually in the top left window the problem files will be pink instead of blue.

maybe a screen shot would help..

Have you scanned your system to see if shcore.dll exists on your system?

I noticed an error message about different cpu types. DE is a 32 bit application, this means that DE is only able to find 64 bit versions of the files it needs, or that you are running the 64 bit version of depends.exe.

Did you run the 32 bit version of depends?

If you did can you scroll the window above the error list window, down and make it bigger so i can see more of the list in there, especially the items with x64 in red.

Lemiwinks

downloaded x86 like you said

d3dx9_33.dl is the only module with a red x64

mcm2boys

well that's interesting. looks like either directX 9 32 bit isn't installed or for some reason it's finding the 64 bit before it finds the 32 bit. If you can find a 32 bit version of the module and place it in the same folder as DE that might help, but it might not fix it. d3dx9_33.dll might be just he 1st in the chain of dx9 dlls it needs. Once d3dx9_33.dll is present then that will start looking for other dx9 dlls and it might try and load the x64 versions of those.

If you can't find a 32 bit d3dx9_33.dll i can try find one from my system, let me know..

Lemiwinks

downloaded a 32bit version of the d3dx9_33 - put it into the folder de is in and used walker to try start again but got exactly the same problem

mcm2boys

can you find d3dx9_33.dll on your system - the one that isn't in the DE folder and report which folder it is in. It's starting to look like the problem tat i linked in my first post where you would need to copy the dx files over the existing files in system32 and syswow64 folders.

Lemiwinks

will give it another shot. by the way i think i speak for the whole community to say thank you for all your efforts.
will let you know how i get on

Lemiwinks

wow. i dont know why but redoing that step worked, i had tried it twice before and once in safe mode with no luck. now it worked sorry for taking up your time for all that unnecessary stuff. thanks heaps

mcm2boys

:) sometimes things just work like that, glad that it worked for you..

..and thanks for the kind words, i do this because i get a buzz out of it, but it's always good to hear..
