Supercros EA just hit Steam, there are 4 tracks, 6 bikes, online and single player modes. If you buy it now, then all upgrades from here on are included, but the price goes up for new purchases with every upgrade.

I feel like ranting. A lot of you will disagree with me, but... So if I purchase the game now ($20 instead of $30), I get a gimped game and I would have to buy additional stuff down the road and won't get the full game until I do (which will cost the same or more than the base game $30)? That's how they treat their early adopters who have been patiently waiting for the game delay after delay? If I am wrong, someone please correct me because their wording makes no sense to me. This is so a** backwards to me and I look at it as they only want your money now. They say they're open to feedback, but they're apparently deleting comments on their facebook page of people trying to give them criticism that they need in order to not bury themselves. Most people on PC who are interested in the game already have Reflex modded up to its eyeballs and/or have MX Simulator, AND are a part of this community. It's going to take alot more than "fine tuning and tweaking" to have us jump ship to this game.  If they want most of the people to buy the game they would need to overhaul the game. This is such bad marketing. My immediate thought was "*#*#*? Early access? Are they going to make the PC game different than the console game? because everyone is going to say they want it to be like Reflex." Nope, they are just going to ignore the criticism and feedback from people who just don't want Nordic to f*** themselves and the franchise to the point that they sell it to someone who will never touch it. The PC version will be just like the console version with Alive national tracks (I do like that, since Alive wasn't released on PC) and higher fidelity graphics since they aren't limiting themselves to make the game run on a 10 year old console. And the game will get negative reviews from people who thought Nordic was going to listen to them. They have been trying to tell Nordic ever since they acquired the license to the game what we all wanted, and they give us Unleashed/Untamed preload and worse physics than Alive. I have absolutely no hope for this game at the moment.

100% agree st anger. except Im shure that you wont have to pay more as it gets developed.

mcm2boys

I guess i didn't explain it very well, but what Ken (developer) posted on the Nordic forums was that once you've paid you get the whole game (when it's done) and receive the upgrades down the road for free. But if you wait to buy it until it's all done with all the upgrades you pay the full wack which i think i saw somewhere will be $40.

So buy the game now to get all the upgrades down the road for the princely sum of $19.99 - 1/2 price.

My plans at the moment will be to add support to DE for SX track building. The skin packager could also easily be adapted for SX.

However, because of the way DLC is added to SX (and Reflex) in a big database, i won't be able to complete that until the full version comes out with the database finalised - though i could make a start before then - once i get DE to a point with Reflex track building that i am happy with.

This is a great point.  I won't be jumping ship for a long while yet.

I read the Steam page and I know I'm retarded at reading things, but that is what I got from it. Here are some quotes from the page that I need clarified.

"The full version will contain the career mode where you can unlock additional game modes, vehicles and parts. Furthermore, the full version will include more than 30 tracks, whereas the Early Access version will have less."

"We are going to scale the price with the amount of content available. So as more content is added, we will add to the cost incrementally. We hope that players will feel they paid the appropriate price at any given stage of the development."

These are the things that confuse me. They make it sound like you aren't buying the full game that is being worked on, and more like you're buying a gimped base game that you will have to make more purchases in order to get the "full game". Are they saying that when they add stuff incrementally they will make the game on Steam go from $20 to say $25? So if I buy it now, will I get that $5 of content for "free" and only have paid $20 for the version I bought? Like a free upgrade? They make it sound like you'll get a paywall that says "nope, pay $?? in order to get the latest update"

This is exactly what I thought too.

I posted on Nordic's Forum asking that very question you did.  The head of the studio said it would be free updates.  Bad wording in their announcement for sure.

Thank you for the clarification, at least I wasn't the only one. That makes matters a lot better that they're letting the early adopters help them out at a discount, BUT, the game still won't be different than the console version and it still won't be the game we want. There's no point in telling them what we want like you should in an early access game development cycle because they already have the console version released and sold and they won't make the PC version so different that it's a different game because that's unfair. They're using the EA moniker to kind of rush it out the door because a lot of people are anxious and have been waiting even after all of the delays. I just wish they had listened from the start, we're honestly a huge community but most of us (if not all) want a true successor to Reflex, this feels like an Alpha of Alive to me. I'm surprised they've released that chassis that helps with in air movement but that's only because the devs themselves knew it was terrible. They're failing to realize who their core audience is, and we don't want an arcade game. I'm not being a childish consumer either, I want them to succeed because I want more games to come out and for the community to grow and not have to resort my hope to modders. Reflex was already awesome (if you can even run it..) and mods made it even better and modern, modding this game will just be polishing a turd. A lot of people are saying it's crashing and it's a mess. I hope Nordic is up to the task of being extremely on point with fixed and responses.

Looks like even second time round i didn't explain it well enough.. :)

I have to respectfully disagree with you there tho, you really do need to put your thoughts forward to the developers, both good and bad, otherwise they won't be able to collect a meaningful idea of popular opinion on what's good and what changes need to be made.

Secondly just because they don't make the changes that you want to see doesn't mean they aren't listening, it just means that they don't believe that an idea is as popular as you do.

In my opinion this series has always been fun before reality, but has made steps towards greater reality over the series. I have been a fan since MCM, i'm a motorsports fan, especially 2 wheels, but not especially an MX fan though i watch it when i find it on TV and i think SX is better in many ways than Reflex - but there are obvious places it could be improved. I am not against more reality, i would like to see the gx move in a more photo realistic direction, but the racing has to remain fun and that is a tricky balance to find - but i do think MvA does a good job at achieving that.

SX has better gfx (at least on my system) than Reflex and from what i've seen rfom the files has a large core of Reflex and Alive in it with a few tweaks, plus a big patch on the network code that still needs some ironing out.

I think $20 for the EA release plus all the Alive tracks, new DLC gear, bikes and tracks to come is excellent value and even if the preload/ clutch gives you the eebeejeebees  still worth the money - but that's just me - i do like a bargain. :)

The devs said all along what their design decisions were about, you know it going in but for some reason a lot people seem to have come up with the idea that it was going to be something else, i still don't really understand why, but i guess if you can't accept it for what it is maybe it's not worth the price of a 6 pack - sure as hell will keep me busy longer than a 6 pack. :)

Just my 0.02c

It seems the EA buy in price will go up with each update, so it may not remain at $20 for long.

good luck!!!!! lol, I cant wait to hear your response ....
oh and playing it more, didn't help me.
but at least your supporting them.. I purchased the ps3 version, that's enough supporting from me.

WRATHCHILD31

All right, I was to curious about the new MX vs. ATV game. So I decided to give the new game a chance and I finally bought it yesterday on steam. I think the price could be for an early access version maybe 5 bucks less, but it' all right...

I was a little surprised that the game wasn't that worse I was supposed it would be. But I'm sure you can't comparing Supercross with Reflex! The new game feels more like a precursor game of reflex or more like of Unleashed.

I like the design of the game and the released tracks so far! But the bikes and riders looks a little goon-styled. Especially the bikes look more like smaller bikes for children or something than real sized motorbikes. Furthermore I really hate that in-motion unsharpness and that you can't switch it off... But the worst thing on Supercross are the bike/rider physics I think! It feels kind of caged the bike and rider is moving on track and in the air. You can't really whip or scrub the bike to get better over jumps or rhythm sections. And the whoops are horrible to ride! I would say the Unleashed physics was already better the the physics in Supercross...

All in all the game is not bad I think, but it's nothing really new. It feels more like a PS1 game somewhen around 2000, just with better graphics and modern stuff...

But for sure I know it's an early access game, so there could be a lot of changing until the final relese of the full game. Good luck for the Nordic and Rainbow Studios :)

Maybe a little early for a question like that, but could it be possible to convert MVA-Supercross tracks to MVA-Reflex somewhen in the near future? ;)
