here are a few cheap cards from www.pricewatch.com

$133  -  RADEON 9800 Pro 128MB
$100  -  RADEON 9600 256MB
$67  -  RADEON 9500 128MB

$145  -  GeForce 6600 256MB
$92  -  GeForce FX 5700 256MB
$82  -  GeForce4 TI 4800
$66  -  GeForce4 TI 4200 128MB

cali, these cards are nothing special but they are cheap and will run MTX just fine (depending on ur other hardware) matter of fact.. I use a the GeForce4 TI 4200  8X 128MB and along with my other hardware can run doom 3 and halflife 2 fine.

But in the end if your going to spend 150 bucks on a card... wait and save some more and get one that you can actually get your moneys worth.

The FX Series cards were a joke... the only big difference between the FX Series and the TI 4000 series cards is that FX supports Direct X9. My Gainward TI4200 8X 128 competes easily with an FX5200. Again alot of that depends on your hardware. The Ti4200's were very popular in there prime and were very stable & fast when they were made, making them top choice for alot of people and even now i see alot of guys on forums still packing a 4200.

If you wanna get a really nice card and not Spend 400-500 dollars for an X800 or 6800 Ultra i perosnally would reccomend the Sapphire or GigaByte Radeon 9800 Pro. I beleive that they are the 4200's of the Radeon series and a whole shlt ton faster & capible of running Doom 3 or Half-life 2 on 1024 x 768 on High settings easily. ( again depending on your other hardware ) The only benefit of buying a top dollar X800 or 6800 Ultra is the ability to run games @ 1600 x 1200 resoultions with full AA and AF Filtering with hardly any slow downs. At resolutions of 1024 x 768 and High or Medium settings with no AA & AF the 9800 Pro runs games just about the same as a X800 or 6800 would. But once you start adding 8X Anistropic Filtering and 8X Antialiasing on high resolutions you will see the 9800 start to suffer while the new generations cards dominate with hardly any FPS loss...

With that stated, i plan on within the next month upgrading some parts of my pc, and rather then going out and spending thousands of dollars on "top of the line" hardware im going to pick up a Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro & Athlon XP 3200+ Barton (benchmarks of the 3200 compete with 3.0 and 3.2 ghz Pentiums) .. There is no reason to spend all of your money on what is said to be the "best" because in a few months its going to be mid grade.... Id rather buy Rock Solid Hardware that i will get my moneys worth with and still be able to run and play all the new generation games with ease than waste my money on amazingly high priced hardware that in a couple of months will be outdated, and in the end not even worth what you paid.
