Hey guys,

I am doing a presentaion in my Bussiness and Proffesional speaking class and need some help.  In part of my speech I am comparing dorms on my campus and other campuses.  If any of you could tell me what school you go to, and a little about the quality of your dorms I would appreciate it. Like maybe size, furniture quality, bathrooms, etc.  Also a pic would be nice if possible.

Thanks,

Sky

Back in 1990 when I was getting my degree in Ski Resort Management (That's right, Ski Resort Management.)  I lived in the dorms at Wenatchee Valley College, Wenatchee, WA.  Our dorms were horrible!!!!!!   Two beds to a room and they weren't much bigger than a jail cell.  I'm sure some jail cells are bigger.  There were two desks and a closet on each side.   You walk into the room and there's a bed on either side of you.  At the foot of the bed was a small closet, about the size of a door.  After that there was a desk that was about 5 feet long.  Then there was the window and a single light in the center of the room.   The common area had a TV with 4 couches.  I'm sure these were couches the Slavation Army wouldn't accept.  We had one soda machine that would constantly rip us off because people would tip the thing to get free soda.

The bathrooms were rancid.  Using the bathroom on a saturday morning would sometimes require you look elsewhere as there was puke everywhere.  About 20 people shared two showers.  Why I never bought thongs to wear in the showers is beyond me.  That's right, I was poor back then.  The bathrooms and showers were cleaned Mon-Fri by mentally challeged individuals.  They actually did a great job.

I'm not sure if it was because half the doorm was housed with the football team or not, but people didn't have any respect for other people property.  Theft was bad and people just didn't clean up after themsleves.  I look back on it and think, how did I tollerate it.  But then I say, I forgot, that's when I was poor.

I'm sure other dorms are much better as this was a community college 15 years ago.  I don't even think those dorms are open to students anymore.

Hope that helps.

Well.... It sounds a lot like where I live. lol  Maybe not that bad, but they still are bad. lThe room is 12x15 and houses 2 people.  The shower stalls are rusted and rust piles up in the floor of the shower stopping up the drains.  The bathrooms have designated stalls for pissing or *#*#*ting, cuz guys like to miss on purpose for some reason.   :-\  The furniture in the rooms is beat to hell as well.

I will say that as for theft, there is NONE.  Everyone is very trusting.  Even on a campus of 30,000.  All the guys leave their doors open and people visit around a lot and stuff.  No other dorm on campus is like that.  All in all, I would sacrifice some living conditions for a friendly atmosphere.  I was just one of the unlucky ones that got one of the three unrenovated dorms.  Next year will be different.

My dorms were pretty big (I visited a freind who is stayin on camus, and they looked alot smaller than I remember though), but we had 3 people in our room, all beds were on the floor. We had enough room for 3 desks, dressers, and beds to all be on the floor, without bunk beds. Each room had its own bathroom with shower/tub, sink and toilet. And another sink in our "Kitchen" area, which meant microwave and a mini fridge. Everyone else was real friendly around campus, but not us lol. It just seemed that everyone in our building were dicks. Especially my RA. But for the most part everywhere else, people leave their doors unlocked and people pretty much knock as they are walking through the door, if they knock at all. I guess if you have something to hide, you better lock the door. Most of the time, at least when I lived on campus, the rooms had 2 people in them. I got stuck with 3, but we were still pretty comfortable. And my dumpster was within throwing distance from my 3rd floor window, so that was handy lol.

About the other dorms we have. One is old school, puplic restrooms/showers and jail cell sized rooms that open up to a mental institution looking skinny all white hallway. And they are sectioned off by boys and girls. The next step up were the ones I lived in. They just got nicer in the order they were built I guess. Then the next nicer ones were the same as mine, but there were plants outside....big deal. Next up were fully enclosed (don't really need to be enclosed, we don't exactly get much snow), but still the same building and room layout as the other two dorms. And we have apartments on campus too. They are pretty nice but really small and cramped. But unlike every other dorm, they are allowed alcohol (21+ of course), so I think people don't really care about how their place is cause they can have liquor. All are co-ed except the old school syle ones, so that can be a plus (especially since I live in a beach town with so many hot chicks haha).

hope its not too late for this to be useful to ya. If so, Its a fun thread anyway....comeon people, lets hear some old dorm room stories.

KXmotox45, you want stories.

I can sum mine up as the land of missed opportunity.  Girls girls girls.  In my two years living on campus I blew about 10 opportunities to seal the deal.  Oh how I wish I could turn back the clock.  I was a complete idiot back then with gals.

I could go into details about each missed opportunity but it would just bring back the painful memory.  Now at my ripe age of 33 I look back and just want to slap myself.
