Well,my harddrive went last week and of course I didnt have most of my work backed up.I lost ALL my old disc maps, all my tracks I made and all the newer ones I downloaded. :( O ,well,I must now rebuild....Here is the question:
I have to reinstall APM and I kinda forgot how the directory is supposed to look.Isnt it directly installed on the C drive?
I fee like a noob asking this one,but it's been in my old harddrive for 2 years,so I forgot. 8)

if you're asking what I think you're asking, you need to make the directory as follows:

C:\Microsoft Games\Motocross Madness 2

I dont think he wants to know where to install MCM 2 because when you install the game it comes with the directory already to be made. What does APM mean? And you would always install a programm to your C: Drive(main drive) or if you have a External Hard Drive. or 2 hard drives things like that. Externals are so cooool :)

VMX_SKYmx99

He means what directory to install MCM2.  When you install MCM2 you have to change the directory to something such as C:\MCM2 so that custom objects will work in dillo.

He knows to do that, but it is crashing MCM2 when it loads.

I just realized, that I talked to him since he asked that question......  But the problem I said is what he is having now. lol

i'm not sure it matters where you install APM to this is from the Instruction Jeff supplied with it.

QuoteInstallation of files: The APM program comes with a setup.exe program that walks you through the complete installation. Just run the setup.exe program and follow the prompts. No special installation location is required since the APM program automatically remembers the location of the last project you opened.

I'm assuming that MCM2 starts with the stock tracks since you are asking about APM and MCM2 crashing?

If not and you upgraded to XP SP2 during your rebuild you will be missing the Indeo video codecs which you need to start MCM2 with the intro videos enabled. You might also need to set compatability mode to win9x in order for MCM2 to run on XP systems.

You could also have had some file copying errors during the install which is causing crashes, you can manually copy the game files across from the original CD under the 'Game' folder.

Hope some of this helps. :)

Laurie,
The game starts with the stock tracks and crashes and reboots when the track loads.I uninstalled/reinstalled 3 times and same thing.I have not even had the chance to put APM in yet.Or any new tracks either.

That just means that you can open the APM file in any MCM2 folder and it will find where it needs to go.Thats not a probelm. And I dont have the  SP 2 Update installed,so thats not it.It is frustrating,I hope I can get it going. Thanks for all the help so far.

There is an issue when using custom objects that really requires that MCM 2 be installed in a directory name that is either shorter or without spaces.  It's easiest to just use something like C:\MCM2.

I believe it is an Armadillo problem that doesn't show up until you try to use the track in MCM 2.

I tried many different things, now the computer just keeps crashing with other programs now.I cant reinstall things or download without crashing,MSN Messenger makes it crash also. The computer will stay on for about 15-20 minutes and then reboot itself.....very frustrating.But....the PC is old now anyway. It's 1GHZ,384 MB Ram,32 MB Ge Force card...I's say I'm about 2 years overdue for an upgrade, huh?
I found a gamer's pc from an online company that seems to have the specs I am looking for:
512MB
120GB Harddrive
DVD DRIVE/CD-RW BURNER
ATI RADEON 9200 SE 128 MB Card
3.0 ghz // 800 mHz f.s.b
and it has an AGP port so I can upgrade the card as well. It's only $799.I priced a Dell with the specs I need and it came out to $1239...plus it cant be upgraded as the video card is integrated into the motherboard. Not what I am looking or.
The only thing that worries me is the ATI cards.I am partial to Ge force.I see alot of posts about all different models of ATI'S and Ge Forces's,so if anyone wants to get thier 2 cents,go for it.I should be back into the MCM world in about 2 weeks and then I will start some more tracks. 8)

i think it has something to do with the core speed of it, although it says that it has a higher speed than the other versions, it runs as low as those, if not slower.

With other programs affected this sounds a lot like a virus to me. If you connected to the internet after re-installing Windows without some of the virus fixes in place you could quite easily get re-infected, i can't rember the name of it but one could get in through RPC buffer overflow and it's m.o. was random crashes and reboots. Have you got an up to date virus scanner you can run over your whole system?

Also you don't always need to install SP2 if you have the newest version of Win XP it will already be SP2, but if you get as far as loading then that probably isn't the answer. Do you have compatability set to windows 9x on the MCM2 shortcut? I had a pretty similar problem on my laptop and that sorted it out.

Laurie,I reformatted my whole PC,I have no Norton running or installed,I'm pretty sure my PC is just outdated or it could be the new hardrive I put in is defective.I was shopping for a new PC for the last few months and this just pushes it further along. My new dilemma is the video card issue.

Without a firewall running the virus i'm talking about could re-infect your machine just by connecting to the internet it doesn't need any email based file to be run in order to get infected. Your problems could be caused by faulty hardware, but they sound a lot like this virus, and even if you did reformat without the firewall you could get infected again in less than 10mins online.

If you're getting a new PC great, but i wouldn't give up on the old one unless it reaaly is shot through. :)

As for gfx cards i have an ATI 9500 Pro 128mb and it's ok, i had a GF 2 mx before that and that was also good. My experience with both makers leaves me favoring nVidia slightly but there isn't much in it, i thin nVidia drivers are slightly more robust. Someone else posted something about gfx cards this week maybe try reading that if you haven't already (http://dirttwister.com/smf/index.php?topic=330.0) - i think he preferred nVidia too, but i don't think there is much difference in the end, but i'm not expert.

You may be right.Like I said,I am not running Norton(hate it).I keep getting rebooted and then a blue screen comes up that I never saw before. It says:File Fat 32,checking disk or something like that.Thats why I feel it's a hardware problem.I have the firewall running with the SP2 update if that matters.I could simply replace everything on this old pc to upgrade it,but for the time and cost I could just get another one.Im not sure I feel like going through the homebuilt way again.I kind of would like to have the customer support,ya know?Either way,I will be ok in a week or so.Thanks for the help though. If you have any other suggestions, post here.

I just looked it up, and i think i am talking about the Blaster worm, you can read on MS site about it and get removal tools here http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-026.mspx but if you had the firewall up before you ever hooked up to the internet you should be ok.

If you have a HD problem you could try running ScanDisk to check out the drive.

Also I use a virus scanner called AVG, it's free (or there is a free version) and i don't find it too intrusive you might want to try that to see if it finds any problems.

From what you just said you have the SP2 version of XP installed (not upgraded from XP SP1 or the original) so you will probably be missing the Indeo video codecs this will cause MCM2 to crash whenever it tries to play video clips. You can download these from Maui's site i think.

If i were you i would run ScanDisk first, then go to the MS site and get the blaster removal tools/patch then get the virus scanner and scan your whole system and finally get the indeo codecs. Then go buy your new PC... :)
