Just wondering if anyone has ever tried to do this and can help with the details..

I've got a project bike, that is not yet finished but i'm thinking of bringing it to the US when i move there from Europe.

I've read around the US EPA and customs web sites and so have an understanding of the technical requirements, but i'm interested to hear from anyone with experience of trying to do this.

The bike is a '92 Kawasaki 1100 which might make a difference. It's no longer stock spec, but can be set back to stock except for the exhaust which is long gone.

If importing is not an option or too expensive then i will have to strip the new bits off and sell the bike, then take the new bits to the US and rebuild it on a US model.

Thnx in advance,
Laurie

i know of guys here in aus that have shiped there bikes to the US to ride route 66 ect. and then shiped them home afterwards with no problems.... but bikes are cheap in the US,
im shure you could take the turbo, manifolds and aftermarket ecu with you and buy another one there.....lol
it would be cheaper than freight maybe. also i know each state has different rules, i did a trip around the states for three months in 06,
so id make shure id check with the rules in texas. you may find some info online. look for DMV (department of motor vehicles)

Yeah i can just take the bike on a temp. basis up to 1 year, then it must be shipped out again, but i want to take it for the whole time that i'm there which is very likely to be longer than 1 year. I have looked at the DMV site, and there are different overlapping rules from each of DMV, Customs and EPA.

Afraid the bike is too old for trick parts like that, it's an air cooled naked with no injectors..  :)
