i was woundering what you guys use to put ruts on your textures i used the burn tool but it doesnt look up to par.

What program are you using?  I use Paint Shop Pro but I have found that the burn tool in PSP is not as good as the burn tool in Photo Shop.  I have done them several ways but the way that I have used for the  last several years are:

1. Using Photo Shop I just use the burn tool.  I work on my textures at twice the size that I end up using (1920x1920.  I just draw away on the actual rendered texture.  I actually work on a copy of it.  When I'm done I just resize to 960x960.

2. Using Paint Shop Pro which I use if I want to make my burn marks and keep them over several renders (you could do this in Photo Shop also).  I work at 1920x1920.  I create a layer for the burn marks.  I just draw black lines one pixel wide.  When I'm done I make a copy of the layer and then tweak it some by blurring slightly.  I then just adjust's it's opacity until it looks the way I want.

I've been meaning to try having Terragen generate them for me, but I haven't done it yet.

I also would be interested in hearing how others do it.

in photoshop add a new layer all white set the layer blending mode to multply and use the burn tool set to highlights at 50% and use a 1 pixle brush.
