too nice!
i just started to play around with 0.97 and im impressed, it saves a lot of time with the new adds like moving whole spline.
Great thing, ty!

You da man Laurie, D2 has made the general quality of tracks to a new level  :)

Ok, i'm having a problem that's driving me nuts. It seems like tracks that are made with 0.97.1 crash back to desktop when i crash in game (sometimes only in practice, sometimes only in race, sometimes in both). Figured that out since when i pack a track with 0.96.6 (old version i have laying around) it works fine. But it kinda sux that when i download new tracks and they're made with 0.97.1 i can't crash at all or it goes back to desktop .. This one for example : http://www.mcmfactory.com/display.php?cat=tracks&id=761 .. Anybody have any ideas ? And oh yeah, using the original stadiums with 0.97.1 totally freaks out too hereĀ  :-\

It's a strange one, but i think this might be your system or maybe a mix of that and D2, but i haven't heard anyone else with this problem and there has to be more people than you who crash, like me for instance :) and i don't get sent back to desktop when it happens.

Also how do you know that the tracks that cause the problem are all packed with v97.1?

Which video card, and windows version are you using, are your gfx drivers up to date or recent at least?

Vid Card : 9800pro (newest drivers)
Windows XP SP2
Comp is running fine except for this problem

Well i'm not sure about the 0.97.1 thing but the track i linked to seems pretty new to me with the traction control thing and the other part of that is from my own point of view. All the new tools that came out make me reinstall mcm2 after a LONG time, so i wanted to mess around with making a track again and that's when i figured out that it doesn't happen when i pack at track in 0.96.6 .. Maybe there's some new general mcm2 files that everybody has now which i have no clue about since i've been out of mcm2 for like 2-3 years lol .. I do have all the MXU files though but not sure if that has anything to do with it

I have seen this problem a long while back where when you crash you are sent to desktop, but i can't remember what the problem was. The big difference between 96 and 97 is the way it handles transparent textures - what used to to be pink transparency. They now use a different format but your gfx card should support that since mine does and it's an ATI 9500 pro.

Since you're on XP maybe you need to set compatibility to win9x under the icons properties, that's all i can think of.

How many tracks does it do it on, yours and the other one you linked to or are there a bunch that do it?

Edit: I just tried the track you linked to and i crashed a lot and didn't get sent to desktop, so i think there must be something in your setup that's weird. You replaced the global.res and the eco.res? Maybe you need to change the installation folder to the short form 'c:\mcm2\' if you haven't already.

Ok, putting mcm2 on win98 compatibility fixed the problem with the track i linked too .. Putting dillo2 0.97.1 on win98 compatibility fixed the problem with my track so u'd think everything would be fine right ? lol .. Everything works fine untill i use one of the stock stadiums with 0.97.1 .. it looks all weird in dillo2 (http://users.pandora.be/gg/ss6.jpg) but looks fine in the game .. however .. if i crash in game it sends me back to desktop lol

Conclusion so far : Everything works fine except when i use a stock stadium with 0.97.1

ps : Thanx for all the help :)

Thanks for the feedback, i've never heard of anyone putting D2 into compatibility mode but if that works then great. I'll have to take a look at the stadiums but it won't be until next week, maybe i can get an update out soon to fix it.
