I'm trying to design a track map for a race we are running in june in the arena at the Avi Resort in Laughlin. I already did the whole track in sketchup and now im doing it in reflex so we can send out a lap around the track like they do for supercross. I'm through the initial height map and I'm trying to test what I have but when I export it stalls at saving track fileset. I'm not a computer wiz so im stuck here. Anyone that can help?

Saving track fileset

did you save it as a compiler .track file first?, then save it as a beta test track.

another thing, do you have the proper steam version of reflex or a riped one?the editor will try and put the the beta slot files automatically into this location C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\mx vs atv reflex\Database. you will need to get a proper version or if your game is installed in another location make this location and then after compileing copy and paste the track files to your location

Since it's compiled the track seems that the hard part should have been done, all that's left is to save the files to disk. Could be that your Reflex folder is write protected. You can either add access to read/write for everyone in the security tab for the Reflex folder that Al gave, or run the compiler as an Administrator so it can write to any folder..

I have the stream version but I downloaded it into my D drive because my C drive is full. Is there any way around this?

make up a dummy location with all these sub folders:C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\mx vs atv reflex\Database

then copy and paste the 4 files to your proper install

The compiler will find your installed Relex folder from where steam put it and use that, so it is more likely to be a protection issue than location issue..

Just right click on the compiler icon, then click on the Properties option at the bottom. In the widow that opens select the Compatibility tab, at the bottom of that make sure the 'Run program as an administrator' is checked. Then restart the compiler...

okay ive got that fixed now and can test the track, but how do I add objects?

JamieT

Get version 8.1.8 here... http://twisteddirt.com/smf/index.php/topic,3212.0.html

The objects will be in a list on the left side of the screen.

ajburns528

I have the newest version but my available models tab is empty

JamieT

Can you talk us through what you did to fix your previous problem?  It seems like the editor still isn't finding your Reflex installation folder.

ajburns528

I just made dummy folders and then copied and pasted from my to d drive. Im Trying to get tough blocks and build the arena this track is suppose to be going into

JamieT

Yeah your whole problem is that the editor can't find the install location of Reflex.  I'm not really sure of a way around it.  Which drive is the editor installed on? Is that on the D drive as well?

al167

if your c drive isn't full, try copy and past all the reflex game files into dummy c drive folders. that should get the models showing up. other than that re-install reflex onto c drive it will save that step of copying and pasting the four files every time you export it.

hmm interesting, according to the Steam documentation all game files need to be under ?:\Program files\Steam\SteamApps folder but yours doesn't look like it is - so how does Reflex run under steam on your system?

Here is an article on how to split games/steam over different harddrives using links, maybe that would help the editor if it works for Steam: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1138731

DE looks in the registry to find the location of the SteamApps folder then expects the Reflex files to be in there - since that's how Steam says it should be.. There doesn't look like there is anyother way to find the files programmatically otherwise.

JamieT

I've got mine installed under C:\Games\Steam..etc...  So it must be an issue with it not being on the C drive rather than \Program Files?

Someone else messaged me last November about this same issue.  I guess he never got around to using objects though...

AJ, have you tried installing Digital Earthworks on the D drive?  Maybe it will help if it's the same drive as the game?

mcm2boys

Sorry, that wasn't clear, the Steam documentation says it should be under the SteamApps folder of your steam installation. So the program files folder isn't required for DE to find the folder. Steam stores the path to itself, which DE looks for and then adds the rest of the path to Reflex because it should be in the same place in the SteamApps folder - unless you go and install it somewhere else.. :)

I gues that means if you click on the EXE it will start and then Reflex tells Steam where it was started from so it can find it, however if you open Steam and try to start it from the :Library page in Steam - then you might have problems..
