When I start the game - it shows the splash screen for 1 second, starts music & then immediately goes shows this:

http://steamcommunity.com/id/videogameracing/screenshot/902098651127894426/?

I tried steams defrag cache files, verify integrity of cache, delete local content, downloaded the game again & reinstalled - but I get the same crap...

If I just blindly keep hitting enter, the game will start & I hear music & menu chimes but when I get in game there is no UI overlay & when i hit ESC there is no menu either.

Any help?

did you recently install another game? or update your graphics driver?  first try manually installing the direct x, i had a problem like this before and it worked for me. By running the DXSETUP in the installers folder in your reflex directory. should be here C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\mx vs atv reflex\Installers. then try updating your graphics card driver. then if that fails you could try and start the game frome scratch by modifing the save game file:

(quote below from mcm2boys on how to do this)

"You will find the savegame.bxml in the steam folder, under 'X:\Program Files\Steam\userdata\30654059\55140\remote\' where X: is the drive that you Steam installed. Just rename it or delete it and restart. Reflex will start with the intro and tutorials as if you had just installed the game for the first time. There is no going back once you have made a new savegame.bxml, it will not recognise any previous savegame.bxml files - at least it wouldn't for me - and will simply overwrite the file again and you will start from scratch again"

Thx dude, I will try that - I was eyeballing that folder & thinking that might be my answer.

Also - yes - I recently installed new games & ATI drivers which made me suspicious of these...

EDIT:
DX re-install = NO Good
Deleted - savegame.bxml = NG
Driver update / install & reboot = NG
vcredist_x86.exe = NG

RE-EDIT:  It seems that after updating drivers & installing other games - this game won't work with any of my 1920x1080 settings or combination of options...

It runs OK with this:
1776x1000 @ 60 hz
motion = checked
texture = high
shadow = high
anti = 4x
vsync = not checked

Good news = my game works!  Now I can get on with painting a track!
Bad news = resolution is lower, deleted my saved games + a few hours of angry...

I can't say for sure because i didn't write the ame but from what i've seen the game always renders to 1280x720, that is then scaled to fit whatever screen resolution you pick, so technically i don't believe that there is loss in resolution.. :)

When you reinstalled the game did you remove all custom files as well? I don't think this would make any difference but you never know..

It usually turns out to be one of the things you did to the system between running the game last time when it worked and the first time that it didn't.. Could try rolling back the drivers to the earlier version - just to see if that is the problem..

Edit: What al said below made me think it might be that the new drivers have the modes mapped to different numbers, so the mode Reflex thinks it's using (from the last drivers) isn't what it's mapped to in the new driver.. Have you tried other screen modes?

sorry that you had to delete your saved game, glad you figured it out and got it back up and running!!! its weird that the resolution was the problem. did you change it in the reflex lauuncher or in windows?

I had some ATI wierdness after doing an update of my video drivers a couple of months ago.  The only way that I could resolve it was to uninstall the ATI drivers, get my system booting up clean without having special ATI drivers installed, and then finally installing the latest ATI drivers.  Reinstalling over the existing drivers wouldn't fix it. I don't remember the exact error message but it wouldn't run a game at 1680x1050 even though it is my native resolution.  It kept complaining about it not being supported.
