What Say You?

"FIM Motocross World Championship" video game by Black Bean Games

FUNCHAL (PORTUGAL), 16 June 2010 – Youthstream, the FIM Motocross World Championship promoter, proudly announced today an exclusive and long-term publishing deal with Black Bean Games, the leading videogame publisher, to deliver the ultimate and extreme Motocross experience on console and PC.

Motocross is an off-road discipline that combines many key factors of sports such as passion, emotions, skills, thrills and adrenaline, offering an exclusive mix of excitement, glamour and fervid competition. These elements, together with all the real tracks and riders, will be part of the official videogame. Straights, corners, jumps, slides: there is nothing smooth about Motocross but riders are there to shape it up. The ending is always a surprise. This is why bike enthusiasts get excited, and this is why gamers will love the videogame.

FIM Motocross World Championship is scheduled for release in 2011 and will be available on PlayStation®3, Xbox360® and PC. The Black Bean Games videogame will allow gamers to go through both the MX1 and MX2 World Championships, as well as exclusively challenge the Motocross of Nations, the massive worldwide annual event!

yeah they made sbk 09 which is pretty good but is uncannily like Moto GP in most respects...I 'm looking forward to checking it out :)

After reading this I went and downloaded the SBKX demo - now I'm addicted and looking for the full version. This obviously uses a spline type of track file format, (similar to MXmania?) and not the DispMap style we use in MCM etc.. and I suspect there won't be any track editing options - but I will probably take a look at it ..

Fixer

When I read you downloaded the SBKX demo, I thought it was the MX title...LOL I didn't realize it was the SBK 2010.

It's a lot like 09 but the demo had some issues here.. I was getting black bars top and bottom eating up half the screen, the mapping on my controller didn't work right,only 2 camera views etc.

Try SBK 09 to see how polished the final game is. I really like the feel of the bike.

mcm2boys

 :) sorry for the confusion Bob, I had some controller mapping issues as well on a logitech rumble pad, i have the full version now installed on my laptop so no controller, but i'll get it installed on my desktop later and see if that's been cleaned up. I didn't have any gfx issues, my laptop uses nVidia nad my desktop ATI so it must be down to individual cards or drivers i guess..

I'm working my way through the tracks in simulation mode as a rookie to get the feel of the bike. The bike is very forgiving (simulation low = easy i guess) on the brakes but on keyboard the on/off feel of the throttle can lead to some great looking slides but a big loss in speed. I can't get comfortable with the controller, the keyboard seems to be the easiest for me but i would love to find a controller that lets you control the bike more like i was riding for real. I have a handle bar controller but it got broken in our last move so i need to fix, but even that didn't give comfortable intuitive control - but i'll try and fix it and modify when i get a little down time..

Fixer

Well, I got the full version and still have the same problems, black bars, only 2 camera views ( I like the closer rider view that MotoGP and SBK09 have) and a pause button that's supposed to be my gas button! I can't help but hit that button 2-3 times a race...grrr

After a while I really was glad I have SBK 09 because 10 is a step backwards in many area's, the bike feels better in SBK 09, graphic wise it's a toss up.

I checked out their site to see if they had any responses to the controller issues. Here's what I found...not encouraging...

[PC]
Hello, In the controls menu I can´t change the button for "Pause" in my gamepad (Logitech Rumblepad 2). It is set to my usual accelerate button so it´s very confusing for me. Goodbye!

Dear Customer, unfortunately the pause buttom is not customizable, you can change all the buttons of the game but not the pause button.

hmm, i got it installed on my desktop and the issue with the controller is no different. Not sure what's going on, but when i assign steering to the joysticks - to give smoother cornering - i find that if i try to turn left full lock it goes through left full lock and into right lock, so i have about 1/3 of the movment of the joystick to turn left that gives me up to full left turn then after that i'm into right turning so i just shoot off the track.

There are more views in the full version but fully customisable would be nice, and some movement with the rider in *#*#*pit view would also be good to give a feel for the riders position..

I cranked the simulation to full to see what would happen, the medium level didn't seem to change anything, and found things getting a little wierd highsides for no apparent reason, sliding into turns and cranking it over into turns results in turning away from the corner - i've not ridden a superbike but that doesn't seem right to me but i need to think about it some more. From the way the bike moves under braking in corners i think they are using a rotation joint between the bike and the track and not simulating the wheel physics for each wheel on the track. But that gives those twitches just before the bike let's go completely, which i like a lot as visual feedback trying to reach my limits of control.

Tracks are good and the quality of the models and environnment look very good almost photo realistic - or maybe i just got too used to Rainbow's old titles.. :)

Looks like i need to pick up SBK09 or MotoGP then, i like the idea of pitting my skills against Rossi etc..

I'm waiting for the Moto GP 09/10 to come out for PC, MotoGP07 was cool with "extreme" racing which was racing on streets, I found to be more fun than the GP tracks in that game. MotoGP08 didn't have the  "extreme" racing and was disappointing in that regard but the game felt better.

SBK09 is more fun on the race tracks, good thing as that's all it has, they took out some good qualities of 09 with SBKX, I've made it through the rookie championship and all the challenges and I'm going to add manual shifting and up the difficulty.

I like starting on easy because it's more fun to win then it is to get frustrated...LOL

mcm2boys

I'll keep an eye for those other titles, sounds like they are worthy of a closer look..

I know what you mean about the winning, i'd rather be banging bars than trialing by 30secs too..

Well, I got the full version

Heya Bob, where did you get the PC version?  I have the PS3 version and wasn't crazy about it either.  However, I was hoping for a better PC version.  Sound like no go.

I really enjoyed the Moto GP 07 as well... do you have this for PC... I had for xbox. Are PC controls configurable?

All the Moto GP's for PC are pretty good, even though you can tell they were ported...

I don't suppose it makes sbkx any better but i think i found why you get the black lines top/bottom on your screen. I was playing with the settings to optimise for my onboard graphics (i know i need to get a proper card) and noticed they disappeared if you select a resolution with HD aspect ratio, eg 1920 x 1080 you can have smaller (i'm using 1280 x 720) but it seems to need to be that ratio anything else leaves a black bar top/bottom the size of which varies depending on what you pick.

Still haven't found a solution for my controller issues - that just looks like a bug either in my drivers or the game or maybe both.

Fixer

I tried the "wide screen fix but I don't have those options in my launcher...so I tried forcing them in the config but even as read only it still loads with bars...

My native res is 1600x1200, I was able to switch to windowed and it filled the window @ 960x540, I could do some math and use more of my width of my monitor but.....it's windowed :(

RKipker

Yeah, thanks Guys for the input.  Seems the PC version in US will be out soon, later this month, seen preorder on newegg.

How do you force the settings in the config Bob? I can't see any config files, and the registry is empty of settings on my installation. I'm surprised that your gfx card doesn't support some of the widescreen sizes but i guess that's the luck of the draw, would a driver upgrade help?

Hey Randall, sry to hear that the game isn't state side just yet, i don't understand why they don't release games worldwide on the same day, with internet distribution it shouldn't be that hard should it? It annoyed the hell out of me when Rainbow (and others) delayed european distribution i don't get it - are they really saying that one part of their market is more important than another?

I also don't see why they don't release the game with a license for all supported platforms, so if you have it for PC then you can play on xbox ps3 etc - we only have 1 pair of hands.

Fixer

In XP it's in:
Documents and Settings\ME..lol\Application Data\BlackBean\SBKX

My monitor doesn't support those settings so they don't show up in the options. I guess I could st my gfx to show unsupported resolutions but I don't think that's the "fix" I'm looking for with my setup. Here's my config after I changed it, the game changed it to this when it launched.
[Language]
LanguageID=9
[Video Configuration]
DeviceID=0
WideScreen=1
Windowed=1
VSync=0

Ok I found it, mine looks the same - no surprise there i guess - except for the resolution and i have vsync on.

The resolution I think is just the size of the backbuffer, which is not the same as the screen size. I don't know how their game engine works, but i think it's rendered to the backbuffer at the specified resolution and then copied to the display at the display resolution. What i'm trying to say is using one of the resolutions not supported by the monitor might be the solution..

Fixer

I don't have wide screen options showing I'll try fooling with the nvidea settings and see if they show up.

So the real question I have is, can I get a 4X3 full screen or is the best I can hope for is a wide screen- windowed screen?

mcm2boys

hmm, i don't know. I see a setting there labelled 'widescreen' and it's set to on, maybe switching that off would give a 4x3 friendly display?

Fitting a 16x9 image to a 4x3 display wll cause some squashing of the image so everything will be taller than it should be we've watched TV like that for a couple of years though and it doesn't worry me.

I will it a try later..
