Gradients look brown instead of gray in Photoshop 7

I just fired up Photoshop 7 for the first time in a very long time.  Does anyone know why everything would look brown rather than gray?  If I open the same file in Paint Shop Pro the gradients look fine.  Is there a setting in Photoshop I'm missing somewhere?

Thanks,
Pete

The fact it looks fine in PSP is what has me wondering. But for me my gradients were too red, which was because of my monitor.

Photoshop uses a Gamma that can be used to correct the colours in PS, which should load up on the start up of your computer. Which may not be set up right. I'm still having troubles getting the colours right, but so far they aren't near as bad.

If you want to try the Adobe Gamma thing, go into Control Panel double click Adobe Gamma and do the wizard and see if that helps.

Hope that helps.  ;D

Not sure.  When I mess with the Adobe Gamma settings everything gets real red.

I'm running a Dell 1905FP.

Yeah that was the same problem I was having, I just deleted it from the startup and used my monitor and video card gamma and color settings. So far its the only thing I can get to look close.

There is a ton of info on the net, I didn't get to indepth with it.

I got some other apps with my monitor to calibrate it, but it seemed to always make every thing way to bright.

Maybe try Dells site and see if they have a monitor calibrating program. As I said above I didn't have much luck with the ones Samsung provided with my monitor. But it maybe worth checking out.

make sure that the color format of your pc is 24 bit color and not 256 color lol.

I delete it from startup everytime I install Photoshop and use my monitor and video card settings.

you dont need to download the new patch of photoshop man, i got photoshop 5.0 and no bugs signaled in this now, because its make a very long time that he was out in stores, but photoshop 7 is not must old than the 5.0. And its possible that in your photoshop 7 got bugs because its coming out last year (i think). like the XboX 360, a bug was already signaled. I think your better to get Photoshop 5.0.
That's my opinion.

I finally figured this out and it was pretty simple.  I just had to go to the Edit pull down menu, Color Settings, and turn color management off.
