In preparation for MvA, come race the MXU tracks in GameSpy / MCM2!

This is a great way to make sure you get your user name & RACE!
- at least we KNOW we all have the same tracks!

Download (FREE/BASIC) & Install:
http://www.gamespyarcade.com/

Create a user name & PlayerSpy (friends) list & TEST IT OUT!

I got a FIREWALL warning trying to host a race.

Here is the FIREWALL help page:

So the multiplaying is going to take place on gamespy?  :'(

Rats... I didn't visit the web site where I read that reference, but SOMEONE posted that a GameSpy logo was on the official page.  I can't find the post, reference or any GS logo on the official site...

Anyhow, I blew a few hours tonight trying to host, read the GS help doc, opened ports, looked at my routers docs and got nowhere...  iLLo showed up and hosted - so I just tried to race - and all I got was a "Can't initialize lobby" message.

I can't believe I just raced the MX Unleashed SX tracks on the MS ZONE and it worked FLAWLESSLY!
My friends list was STILL there too, but no friends!

I am behind a router and I GameSpy won't allow me to host games, but the ZONE just works.

I was running 85fps (my monitor refresh rate) @ 1024x768 w/all options but shadows.
Objects, Terrain @ MAX, Vegatation and Visability @ 3/4 MAX.

Anyhoo... that was FUN and it was only a 3 man race!  Very close lap times...

PS - I go to CA tomorrow but I'll race tonight!

I've had to use gamespy for several games over the last 6 years. I know that message you got King. I get it the first time I host a newly installed game there. I just check the box that tells it not to remind me again or something like that. I have a router and have always used DMZ rather than port forwarding. Gamespy uses a bunch of ports and I'm lazy.  ;) With Norton Internet Security running, I feel comfortable leaving my PC in DMZ 24/7. If you rather use port forwarding, there is a help section in Gamespy that list all of the ports somewhere.

What time will you be around tonight? Maybe we can try again.

TCP ports open in order to function:
6667 (IRC)
3783 (Voice Chat Port)
27900 (Master Server UDP Heartbeat)
28900 (Master Server List Request)
29900 (GP Connection Manager)
29901 (GP Search Manager)
13139 (Custom UDP Pings)
6515 (Dplay UDP)
6500 (Query Port)

Works here.

What I do is setup DMZ to play games.  I then switch my PC to use DHCP when I'm not playing games and any stuff getting through the DMZ just goes to the bit bucket.  When I want to play games I switch to the DMZ Ip address.

I find it easier then fighting the whole port battle.  I have found too many games that say you only need to use port x, but then in reality other ports are used also depending on how many people are playing.
