Robb Rinard and three others from Rainbow have started a new game company.

For those who don't know, Robb is the game designer of MCM 2.  You can read about it here:

Anyone still interested in working for a game studio in Phoenix, may want to check this out.

Hmm, I wonder why they left, must of felt to restricted by THQ.

I'll be in contact with them soon, been awhile since speaking to Robb Rinard.

Anyway, it's good news for us MCM2 players.

All I know is what I heard from the guy that first told me that Robb had been let go.  I guess that most of the people that started Rainbow left after selling it to THQ.   Robb was let go right after MXU Unleashed was released.

I can speculate that they must have had some kind of non-compete agreement that has expired, because it has been a while since THQ bought Rainbow.

I've just been looking at THQ Career Center and it seems like they still need alot of people for Rainbow Studios...

I knew Robb Rinard left after MXU was out, but wasn't sure about the others. It must get frustrating for those guys if they cant develope things in a certain direction the they want to and totally be controlled by what THQ want, obviously there latest games have been made for the younger generation of console players. When I played MXU on a XBOX at a friends I thought the Supercross tracks were a joke, they were like racing on a 4 lane wide highway :( Totally takes away from the atmosphere of what supercross is about. The AI was challenging from the few times I played it, I'm sure that would of changed If I was using my joystick lol.

Well I know if I had the $$$ and a lot of it I'd probably start my own developing team for a MX game, theres a lot of talented people in the community of many racing games I've been involved in quite a few since 1997. You dont need all these official licenses for riders names, brand names and tracks etc. It could totally be a generic MX game like MCM1 mostly was and then addons can be made by the community with all the real tracks and riders etc. ISI have recently done it with there latest sim rFactor, they developed the F1 series for EA which was really good and also GTR which was made from the same engine, they have made it specially for the addon community in mind and theres now a pretty big following for it.

I really hope the guys at 2xlgames approach there future games the same way as ISI has.

This is HUGE! You guys do know that Rob was pushing for a PC version of MX Unleashed don't you? I just hope they have the funding for it, Rob had mentioned how much it would take and it was mind blowing. I am stoked! ;D

Hey Blue, gotta talk to ya soon on MSN or something, it's been awhile lol.

I'm 100% behind those guys, we have supported Rainbow ever since MCM1, but when THQ came along they obviously had no plans for us original PC users. So I think it's time we forget about Rainbow, (might aswell call them THQ) because we the community have been trying for 5 years for a new MX game and it's been pretty useless, I know I lost hope a long time back.

Robb Rinard was pretty supportive to the MCM2 community within his limits at the time at Rainbow, I had some good chats with him in the past, along with some racing in MCM2 ;) Brings back some great memories when MCM2 was in it's prime.

What we love is PC MX games that we can make tracks for.  We'll love anyone that gives us one.

Well my answer is exactly what Bruce said above fourtwenty.

Like I said above, we have supported Rainbow for a long time with MCM2, but after 5 years of the same game on PC it's only natural for people to give up on Rainbow/THQ to release anything new for PC. There's been a lot of false imformation over the years about there being a new MX game for PC and us MCM2 users have been asked several times in public discussions of what we think should be in a new MX game for PC which obviously didn't go ahead, the MCM2 community put a lot of thought and ideas into something for the console users.

When Rainbow was bought by THQ that was the end for us PC users, I dont believe THQ will support a PC release in future anytime soon because consoles are simply easier and faster to develope for and consoles sell more copies then PC. I know the guys who work at Rainbow have tried hard for a PC version, but they are not the ones in charge of whats released.

It all comes down to those big important $$$ signs in the end.

PRO_Westy

It really is a shame but as Twisted states its all about the big $$$ but of course THQ is a business and business needs to make money etc etc..

The main problem being is that a mx game that we all would like with the opportunity to edit/make/create maps/tracks etc to a game publisher isn't the appealing, due to the simple fact look at all now playing a 5+ year old game. The people at THQ marketing or whatever publisher those kinda stats scare them as its ONE sale of a game lets say $40.00 per person and that suits there gaming needs for 5 years,, sure they would sell a large amount of units in the first place but then we woundt want to buy any other games for 5 years etc etc.  Of course this statement is just hypothetical :)

But if you look way back even to arcade style machines, the galagas, space invaders, defender etc those games if you was good enough went on forever as there wasn't an ending, Now days most games you start with the slowest/smallest man/bike/weapon etc and the main goal is to get the biggest/fastest/etc etc,,then the game is over.

which in a $$$ situation is great for the publishers as once you get to the goal , your off to the shops again to buy another game.. its the same with the cheats etc for 99.5% of all console games 1 day after realease there are cheats all over the net, who places them there? well the game publishers of course as they want mr x to do the cheat finish the game in 2 days flat and then go out an buy another.

i sure hope that 2xl do make something for the pc with mx in mind only time will tell i guess..

I have to agree its all about the mighty $$$, but I for one haven't stoped buying MX games cause I play MCM2. However I continue come back to MCM2. While my console MX games continue to collect dust.

Its tough to think we will never get another MX game for PC, but giving up we will definaly show no reason for a developer to tackle the job.

I still have faith someone will come to there senses even if one of us has to get in the inside to get the job done.

It clearly states on 2xlgames website that whatever there making will be released for PC and consoles and I'm pretty sure it will be a MX game by some of the comments made on the page, thats what those guys are all about.

Also with MCM2 lasting over 5 years it's only because Rainbow or another company haven't released something better for PC, otherwise I'm sure everyone would have moved on especially if we could create tracks like MCM2 with a better graphics and physics engine.

Exactly

All you have to do is look at other games.

Will be nice to see what happenes with the community once a new mx game comes to town. I'm sure we will see a lot of old faces make a return. I can also see there being a ton of new sites going up, like the good old days of mcm.

I can dream can't I lol.
