Hey guys,

I'll make this short... I've been a CRT Monitor guy since I've had a computer and the other day I tried out a Flat Panel LCD. The graphic quality was top notch! Very crisp and clear and clean. My only gripe was on some games (MCM2 and Counter-Strike Source) it was ghosting and had slight lag because of it. I've heard about pixel response time and such, and was wondering what a superb GAMING LCD would be.

If any of you are running one and haven't had any such problems.. please post what Make and Model they are.. along with what the pixel response is.

Thanks for your time,

its not worth buying a LCD becouse if you want to get a LCD thats okey for gaming it cost allot.

I have a 20.1 inch View Sonic that cost a bundle but I wouldn't go back to a CRT for nothing. If you get a responce time of 16ms or less you shouldn't have any ghosting. Prices have really come down and so have responce times,  Samsung, LG and Dell have some top rated LCD's for gamiing and they really aren't all that expensive. Responce times on some of the new ones is 8ms!  The main reason I got one is that they are a lot easier on your eyes.  I've been wanting to replace my son's aging CRT's for all the obvious reasons....

I forgot to add that the native resolution on my monitor is 1600x1200 which is why I bought it since I wanted to maintain the 4x3 screen ratio I've grown  used to. MCM2 and al my other games never looked better!

Thanks for the replies guys!

Fixer, do you notice any ghosting at all during MCM2 game play? I was using the Dell 1704FPV which had excellent picture quality, but ghosted on MCM2 quite a bit.

Anyhow, could you post the model of your View Sonic so I can take a look at the specs.?

Thanks again,

I haven't ever noticed any ghosting, playing MCM2 or games like Quake3 - while rapidly turning around have no blur. The model I have is the VP201s, it was purchased a while back and was rather expensive but my eyes are bad and I needed it! The responce time is 16ms which translates to about 80 frames per second - more than the human eye can detect. Now I see models with rates like 8ms. We have some Dells @ work and just scrolling a page causes blurring but they are el-cheapo's.  ::)

Thanks Fixer,

I've did a lot of research on LCDs lately.. everyone has something different to say about a particular model.  ::) I don't think I've tried out enough to say they are garbage or not. A few models I've read about have a 12ms response time, even a NEC model which has the 8 ms response time was reviewed as a lie. I'll look into that Viewsonic, since it's from a legitamate source.

Thanks for the help!

I got a news letter from VIew Sonic about their new gaming models with 4ms responce times- claimed 250fps! Here's a link to the 19 inch:  http://www.viewsonic.com/products/desktopdisplays/lcddisplays/xseries/vx924/index.htm

Also you should look for a model with both digital and analog inputs.

4ms.. thats insanely insane!

Ok, so I'm like a chick with a credit card.  ;D

I've been reading extensively about LCDs the last 2 weeks. I get a kick out of the reviews people write. Most of the panels I looked at were mediocore, with a few exceptions. One being the Dell 2405FPW 24" wide screen. This is an exceptional LCD with few complaints. Even the few complaints it had I was able to live with. This panel retailed for 1,199.00 which is a great price for what it is, just not for my pocketbook.

I went ahead and ordered that Viewsonic 19" 4ms panel (model vx924) after reading up on this one. I liked the reviews. Sounds like a decent LCD. With a 4ms response time, you'll have to sacrifice a little clarity, but nothing to take away from a sharp, crisp graphic unit. I should recieve this beast early next week so I'll have some time to play with it and see what kind of results I get. After all, I am the one using it, right?  ;D

Til then......

sounds cool moto,  let us know what its like.   im in the progress of getting a SLi (twin graphic card) system, and ill be wanting to get a new screen for that.
at the mo i have a Dell 18tfp which im more than happy with, but this screen will stay with my old system and i just want a realy cool gamming set up.

Ok guys... so I've had this Viewsonic VX 924 Flat panel for about a week now. You know, the LCD with the 4ms response time! I don't want to speak for everyone here, just my own observation. First impressions.. the screen is sick! Very crisp, clear and clean. I think the LCDs have that market cornered.

This LCD is by far the best one I've tried. However, being a gamer I would wait til things develop more. If you enter a game, it's bitchen to just stare at the screen while nothing is going on. Once you start moving around, shoot people, blasting berms and such, things start to get a little laggy. With the 4ms I wouldn't say there is no ghosting, but it's superbly better than anything out right now. I play games like HL2, Counter-Strike Source, Battlefield Vietnam and my new love Battlefield 2, well, the demo anyway. I will not argue about picture quality, but the very slight ghosting along with a hair bit more of lag which I didn't experience with using a CRT, kind of urks me. I think I am going back to the CRT for awhile and see how the market picks up technology wise with the LCDs. I have a strong feeling get much better since LCDs function differently then CRTs. High graphics and movement will always kill a LCD, but boy does it look killer sitting still!

Anyhow, this wasn't meant to be a review for this particular LCD, just an observation of what I noticed while using one. This could be different with your own setups.

You might want to check your settings. Are you set at the monitors "native" resolution? and I noticed when I had "anti-aliasing" and "anisotropic filtering" cranked up the picture qualilty actually was worse (my opinion)  and looked a little blurry. If you read some of the "knowledgeable" reviews of LCD's -Maximum PC- they are saying that they are getting virtually no ghosting or blurring with games like Need for Speed underground 2 - used because of the speed of the game simulation- with their top picks on monitors having responce times of 16ms and less.  I don't notice any lag associated with the LCD and my frame rates are the same as my CRT'ss @ the same settings.

You might want to check out this site- it's packed with utilities and has same good LCD ones:
