If you are looking for someone 51 is the man to have. The guy is amazing at making his tracks and textures.

I'm extremely interested as well. I've send Rainbow emails previously, both directy and through Bruce  aka AMA_Dirttwister, but never heard a reply.

I'm very familiar with photoshop, and I know the basics to max. I'm currently in college, working on a graphic design major. I'm willing to relocate the day (if) I got the job.

I'm currently working on a track, which has been pretty hush hush. Look for it soon, called "Clean". I'm paying super close attention to detail, but with a short summer break, I should have it released soon.

Could you reccommend just what it takes to be considered for the job, besides what you said earlier. For example, would it be good to send photoshop documents of disp and tex maps, and anything else?

Also, how soon in Rainbow looking to hire? If one person gets the job, does that mean they wouldn't consider hiring a second?

All great questions KXmotox45.  Your name looks familiar and I think we spoke in the past.

I must also take this time to apologize to anyone who contacted me from the zone a few months back inquiring about a position here.  We were, and still are, actively looking for track builders but at that time I was trying to do it on my own time and trying to ship a game.  Now I'm doing it as a task and MXvsATV is out the door.  So this is serious and please only inquire if you are seriously willing to work here at Rainbow.  The best process I can come up with is to let this thread run about a week and put together a list of all potential names.  At that point I will give each builder on the list instructions on how to send me their work.  Send anything you have!  Displacements, Textures, Max files, MCM2 tracks, even layout work.  I'd like to see your creativity in all forms.

KXmotox45,  It sounds like you want this more than many I've talked to and would be an asset to our team.  You're absolutely on the list and nothing more is needed at this time.  Get your things together and by next Friday May 6th I start contacting people on where to send their stuff.  I'll take a look and set up a meeting if we want to take it further.  That's it.

We would like to have more than one more track builder but at the time I can only promise one.  We are looking to hire immediately.  The job requires that you know and love racing and can make a decent track.  When I started I barely knew Photoshop and could barely make my way around Max.  I would prefer someone know more than that but true passion and desire can overshadow knowledge any day in my book.

I'll also only add people who respond to this thread on the list.  I appreciate the info on who good builders are but I want them to want the job.  Tell them to get in here and respond or they may miss an oppotunity of a lifetime.

I'd love to work for Rainbow, but I know for a fact I can't move all the way to Pheonix, so I won't bother applying.

That sucks.  Phoenix is beautiful right now!!  However, it will hit 110 degrees soon enough.

So I have a list started:

VMX SKYmx99
VMX ElDiablo
V Sdesign
KXmotox45

I'll keep updating until Friday May 6th and then contact the people on the list.  I'll give more info at that time but if anything I've said so far makes you obviously not interested please ask me to withdraw your name.  This doesn't make you obligated to anything other than more info if we select you from the list.  Please don't ask me to just check your stuff out if you're not interested in the whole package.  I may have time to do that later after I find someone to hire but for now, serious possible job applicants only please.  Good luck!

I would definitely recommend you make this offer to Mike McCue, he doesn't hang out here to much anymore but you can email him at mike@harmoniccycle.com.

VMX_SKYmx99

I am really interested, but I need to know mor einfo about salary, and stuff, before I can make a life changing move.  It has always been my dream to work for you guys.  So if you could PM or email ( alex.lewis@gmail.com )  some more info about the job I would REALLY appreciate it.

Also did you say you wanted us to send a little portfolio of work?

MX45

Wow, I'm kinda speachless. Good think I can type.

I just have one more question. This track I'm working on, can I release it to the public, as well as send anything and everything to you guys?

QuoteGood thing I can type.

One thing I'm not that great at, but I can usually get my point across.  ;D

I would have to say this is defiantly a dream job for me. I've applied every time an opening has been mentioned here or on any other mcm2 site. I've also on one occasion, applied directly to Rainbow, just hoping for that foot in the door.

It sure would be great to have an opportunity to at least show off some of my skills. lol

Guess I'll start working on getting my stuff together.  ;)

ElDiablo (Paul)

Read his last post again Alex...he said that he's going to wait for a week and see who all applys for the job and THEN contact us individually and tell us more about the job and what and where to send to him.  ;)

Honestly nothing would make me happier than to nab this job and I DO want it badly. But I'd be happy for any of the guys listed to know that they got it, even if I didn't. Seriously, somebody tell Colin to get his butt in here. If he CAN commit to this he's probably IMHO the best choice. His mapping, max and texture skills are the best for sure. His maps may be a bit on the technicle side for console games that have to be playable for new players...but I'm sure that wouldn't be a problem to tone down if need be.

I gotta give props where their due! Sure I want the job...but I'm a hard-core gamer and I think if the right people are working at Rainbow (even if it isn't me) then we all win when their games hit the shelves! ;D

Good luck.

Man, I just woke up and want this more than ever now.  Yesterday I was like, not this can't happen to me, but it is. lol  I have always been one of those to settle for something even if I know I could get better.  I'm tired of doing that.  I want this job.  And I will try my hardest at whatever it is I must do for you guys.

Also, I agree with paul.  Any of us 4 that get it will be perfect for the job.

It was an unbelievable opportunity for me and it's nice to see that excitment in some of these replies.  It feels good to know that I can offer something like this to the group of friends who helped me.

I must say this, sometimes it's hard work, sometimes I'm here until 2:00a.m. at the end of a project dragging nodes around in our spline editor, sometimes it seems as though the fun has been taken out of it.  Sometimes you can't speak freely to your MCM2 freinds for fear that you may tell inside info that can get you fired and in many cases you'll be called a sell-out who no longer cares about the needs of the people who helped your company succeed.  It sucks, but as I sit here today and write this I wouldn't change it.  I get respect way beyond anything I could have ever imagined and I make video games for a living.  I could go on and on but it's important to remember how you feel right now.

V_Sdesign said it right.  I don't think it's best not to lay out a bunch of information up front and many answers I don't have or can't post here.  I've given the biggest issues that seem to stop people from following through.  Becoming a full-time employee of THQ/Rainbow and living in Phoenix.  If you can honestly see yourself doing that, you have some basic track skills and a love for creating, a good atitude, then I would consider you.  If we don't offer you enough, don't take it.  You're not obligated.  I just don't want to waste time looking at thousands of tracks to be told you want $300,000 annually and want to work from home.  I can't discuss pay but I think it's more than reasonable for what we do and they are many perks of working here.  You decide.

Keep telling people that might be interested to get in here.  I need your help as I can't e-mail people all day and give them info.  If they want it, they'll get in here and catch up.  Can someone ask Mike McCue if he's interested and if so, ask him to reply to this thread?

Thanks again.  See you soon.

Garasaki

Hey DIZ, is it possible for you guys to use "user" created (user = out of house) tracks in the game?  Are there legal hurdles there?  Or simply undesirable from a quality standpoint?

Cause, man, you could get a lot of entries, for free, if you opened that can of worms.

DIZ_No_Rebase

From our standpoint on stock tracks, (tracks that ship with the game) user created tracks won't work and one of the reasons we are hiring a track creator.  Sending in displacements and having the team make them work in game just does not work.

We would like to implement an option where people could upload tracks, skins, and mods similar to MCM2 but that has proved to be a tall order.  Keep your fingers crossed.

Garasaki

That's too bad.  I would think that even getting some sort of barebones "outline" of a track would help you guys, but then again you would probably spend more time tweaking it to match your physics then if you just started from scratch in house.

Uploadable tracks is far and away the biggest shortcoming from the console games you guys have produced to this point (that and floaty physics).
