General Discussion / Re: Long time - never see!

Hi,  I just stumbled on this.  It's pretty quiet here.  I really haven't had any time to play with anything MCM 2 related for a while.

For MCM 2 tracks you might want to check this out:

General Discussion / Re: Evolution of MX Games
March 15, 2018, 11:39:03 PM
The game between MCM 1 and MCM 2 was Extreme Biker/MX 2000.   I believe one was the US name and the other was used in other countries.

Somehow that morphed into MX Mania.  I don't remember if that was just a repackaging or an update.

I'm anxious to take MX vs ATV All Out for a spin.

I like the things I heard in this clip:

I haven't tried the Monster Energy game.  I'll wait and pick it up on sale.  I almost bought it but it seemed like it had too many bugs at launch.

That's a great bike.  I upgraded my 2012 VStrom to a 2014 VStrom 1000 two years ago.

I'm keeping an eye out for some new bikes that are rumored.  KTM has a 790 and Yamaha a 700.  I would like a bike that is between my VStrom and KLR.  Enough power to have fun on the mountain twisties, comfortable enough to cruise on the highway some, and one I'm not afraid to take on some rough dual track with rocks.  I only take the VStrom up to where the dirt gets rough or muddy.  Those are the places I ride the KLR.  I'm ready to only have fuel injection on my bikes.

We've been very busy working on our house this year, so I haven't had has much time to ride as I would like.  We bought a house last year.  It's on a pond.  This summer we replaced the deck and currently adding  an under deck deckdrain roof.

It isn't really a bug.  The Reflex AI is cpu intensive.  Performance is better with a video card with more bits in the memory interface.  Nvidia cards need lots of CUDA cores. You need a certain level of cpu and video card for reasonable performance.  Certain tracks also have more details in the displacement map/shadow map and really put a strain on your system.   Normally you can help out your system but changing the resolution but for Reflex that doesn't make much difference because it seems to render at a certain resolution and scale to the resolution that you are using.

What cpu and video card do you have?  For any given system the ways to improve performance of games is to make them do less work.  With Reflex your options are limited.  Throwing hardware at it is the one that works the best.

How did your top case go towards the front?

I always see it as a one way trip.  I might use Leveller only for smoothing at first, which would allow me to continue editing in a PS or PSP.  Once I start editing in Leveller then I never go back to PS/PSP.

I never round trip it.

The edges of the square show problems, but the terrain is fine once the edge is gone.  These squares aren't visible 100% of the time.  They start out that way in the lobby.  I don't see any sign of it in the game, but I've only ridden a few tracks so far.

In my case the areas that are wrong are black.  It seems to be an artifact that hides the terrain.  If the black edges aren't there the terrain is fine.  It's almost like it's an area that no rendering takes place for whatever reason.

Definitely less of a problem when trying to record a video of it.   The improvement could be a result of the fact that it is at 30 FPS, rather than the video.

If I do a donut it is hard to get the problem to happen in that area.  If I ride around, the problem becomes less and less of a problem. I tried taking a video of it, but when I do that, the frame rate goes to 30 FPS and then the problem hardly happens at all.

My laptop has 2 Gig of video memory.  The glitch that I see are the edges of at least two squares that surround the bike/rider.  They move with the bike.  It isn't something you can really ride over.  In the first picture in this thread you can see the corner of the square to the left of the bike.  Depending on bike rotation the corners are at different angles.  I thnk the squares are always oriented the same.

I have tried a bunch of different settings and resolutions and three different drivers.  None of them change it on my laptop.

I believe they are all "Maxwell" architecture.

The problem doesn't happen with the built-in Intel graphics (HD 4600), but the frame rate is 1/4 of less of the GTX 850m.  I've only had the laptop 24 hours, but so far the problem has only happened for me in Reflex in the lobby.  It doesn't happen in MX vs ATV Supercross.  I have had MX vs ATV Supercross blow up on me, but I assume that may be normal with the early release and not my setup specifically.

I just got a new laptop today.  An ASUS i7 with a GTX 850M video card.  When I started up Reflex this happens in the Lobby.  It goes away when the race starts.  I'll play around with is some to see if I can figure out a setting to change that helps the problem.  I tried different resolutions and it happened on all of them.

General Discussion / Re: MCM2 and WIN XP PRo SP3?

It's been a while. Isn't it something with a codec.  I think a work around is to remove the video's.

It would be helpful if you would identify specific broken links that you come across.  I don't know if I fixed the  ones you were having a problem with.

The broken ones I found were pointing to jeffhamblin.com which no longer exists.  I have uploaded those files to the TD site and updated the links.

Now if they would throw in a MultiStrada/KTM/GS and some dirt roads.

I finally got to play it and I actually like what they are doing.  I think the rider is too stiff (but that has zero effect on game play).  Whether or not you have to use the brakes depends on how fast you go.  None of the tracks in the game that I have race on so far lend themselves to braking anyway.  If you are on the pipe and you want to tuck inside a little brake will help.

I like that it doesn't have the bouncy and touchy out of control action that Reflex has.  You can actually race the Ai and bump a little without it being a crash fest.

I don't find the preload inconsistent.  They actually give you a way to measure (Ie hang time and jump distance), so practice.

You can actually tell when the bike is bogging down or screaming at top speed, better than any other MXvsATV version.

I believe most complaints that I have read are really more disappointment with the individuals expectations then actually issues with the game.

I do wish that they would mix outdoor and supercross in the same game.  I find this game a lot like alive, but with refinements and I like the SX better than Alive.

To me you can't compare this to MX Simulator.  I've never ridden a motorcycle that rides like MX Simulator.  MX vs ATV isn't really competing against MX Simulator.  When it comes to games I prefer what MX vs ATV has done over the years (even when there is a lot that I'm not happy with).  I think it's great that people can enjoy MX Simulator, but I'm not one of them.  It's first person view is really good, but it's physics doesn't translate to a computer screen for me.

I would find it impossible to create a game that appealed to game players.  There are way too many haters.  Most people that like them and buy them don't say anything.

I don't understand those bicylist?  What are they thinking?

Lucky with the deer.  I had a deer hit me many years ago.  It came from the right and hit right in front of my right leg.  My leg went straight back.  I managed to not fall, but my knee sure hurt and there wasn't any damage to the bike.  I was going much slower than you were when it happened.

Went for a ride on Sunday on a road that I had never been on before.  I missed a stop ahead sign.  The stop sign is in the middle of a curve and the edge of a narrow one lane underpass under railroad tracks.  Pretty much invisible from the road until you are right there.  I was paying too much attention to the bumps/cracks in the pavement and didn't see the two important yellow warning signs.

Sorry, haven't had an eye on the forum for a bit.. Only just caught your question.

What type/how big of adjustments are we talking about that would be needed per browser?

It would be good to adjust things if you are on Chrome on Android.  I only know how to adjust in CSS based on a few device capabilities which says nothing about whether it's a mobile device or if it's Chrome on Android.  To do anything device specific the only way I know how to do it is with Javascript and use that to load different CSS.
