When I race, whatever graphics I have, the most framerates I can achieve is 60-61. Is there a way to make it so I can have more?

(This is on a laptop, and can any technical tweeks be step-by-step as I am not as computer literate as you guys)

v_hoOk~

turn your quality down some ingame  ;)

No, its not the quality, come on i have tried every variable of that ;)

What I mean is that my fps seems to 'max out' at 60, whatever graphics. Something to do with refresh rate i believe?

EDIT// Don't worry I sorted it out.

Fixer

If you have advanced graphical settings for your video then you should be able to turn off "v-sync" . It sounds like you hit the refresh rate of your screen. Turning off v-sync will let the fps rise to whatever your system is capable of.

VMX_Burn

I dont actually know what the gfx card in this thing is, it was supplied by the school.

What I did was change the refresh rate to 80. (Good ol' TD archives lol)

Thanks for the tip tho :)

There is a build-in max FPS in XP and there is a program to fix it.
If i just could remember the name of that program... anyone?

ONE_MASTERT

Where do you find V-Sync fixer?

Fixer

If you have an ATI card (Radeon) and have the Control Panel app (seperate download from the drivers) then you will find it there in the advanced -3D- settings. If you have a Nvidea card it's probably in a similar location in the settings.

ONE_MASTERT

I can't find it
i got a Radeon 9700 Pro
i went to display properties and under settings i clicked advanced
i do see in there though it has a monitor tab and you can change the Hertz of the monitor
only option i have is 60 Hz
but no V-Sync

VMX_Burn

What I did was go to RUN in the start menu, and typed in 'Dxdiag.exe' Then on the last tab there is an option to override the refresh rate of the moniter. (I only put it to 80 because I don't know how to check what the maximum I can get is without frying something.)

Fixer

You have to have the ATI Control Panel installed - not just the drivers. Then- Go to advanced properties, then click the "3D" tab.  Then select "Use custom  settings" Click the "Custom" button then there is a slider for "Wait for Vertical Sync"

ONE_MASTERT

ok i think i got it -- i have the CATALYST Control Center so its a little different
it said my monitor can only go up to 85 hz so i turned the 3d refresh rate override to 85
then under wait for vertical refresh i turned it off

ima go try it out

thanks for the help fixer

NATIVE

what should i do for a geforce fx 5500 oc 256mb card? to get better fps?

ONE_MASTERT

I top out at 89 now thx fixer

VMX_Slowpoke2

get a newer graphics card

R.I.P Bob you will always be remembered

HaB Stealth0

my max fps in this game is aroune 80-90, while in Counter-Strike: Source i get around 120.. weird

mcm2boys

The FPS depends on how many polys there is in a scene. The human eye can't detect much over 30-40 FPS anyway which is why TVs run at between 25-30fps (depending on country) and consoles run at 50-60fps. Much over that is just numbers because it won't improve you're viewing pleasure. :)

It probably wont make sense, but even tho the human eyes wont detect a difference, would the handling as response be encanced when your running high fps?

Fixer

That's probably subjective but I think the more fps I get the smoother the game  play gets-  much over 100fps it's hard for me to tell much difference in this game. Other games I play the fps can dip in spots and you don't even notice - except for the frame counter telling you.

XFR_MJS

ive gottin as high as 370fps on tracks but it takes my preload away too.. I run mcm2 at 1024x768 everything to max settings and game runs smooth 99% of the time. I noticed I was able to get better hotlaps on my older pc when I was gettin like 40fps.. reason being I get much better preload
