I recently opened TDZ to everyone, though you have to register at the TDZ first before you can use it. You used to have to be a member of TD forums because the forums and TDZ were both on the same server and so it was easy to copy the data across automatically from the forums to TDZ, but now they sit on different servers so that's no longer possible. This also helped to keep the idiots out. I would prefer that people using TDZ were registered on the forums mainly because that's where all the update info is released but i guess it isn't necessary.

The order of registration is pretty much like you have it here's a little update:

1) With your browser goto http://www.twisteddirt.com/zone/index.php. This is the TDZ home page where you login and get to all the other good stuff - like the Help page!!!.
2) If you are not already a member of TDZ then register here first, otherwise you can login here and go to your profile page.

Note: Use the name you ride with in MCM2 as your username since this is the name StartGate uses to log you in as well. If your username isn't one of your profile names then Startgate won't be able to log you in.

3) Download the latest Startgate program and unzip it anywhere you like, i created my own folder 'C:\Program files\Startgate'.
4) Read the Startgate Help file! There's usefull information in there for newbies.
5) Run StartGate, at the login page select the rider profile you registered with on the TDZ and enter the same password you registered with. Then press Login. :)
6) Enter a Lobby by double clicking on one in the list, then you can Host or Join a room and chat - like you would on the MS zone. Press Launch when you're ready to race.

Notes for people behind firewalls or routers:
Startgate can't always detect your internet IP address when you are behind a router or firewall, if this happens to you then 1 of a number of things may happen:

1) People trying to join your room will get a message like 'Can't enumerate connections on xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx'.
2) You may join a room and when you start the race you will get booted back to Startgate.
3) You may start up MCM2, but when the race is launched you are booted back to the Main menu or Startgate.

The fix for this is to check the 'Prompt for IP' check box at the login screen. Then when you host a room or join a room you should be asked for your internet IP address. If the address starts with '192.168.xxx.xxx' then that is your local network IP address and not the Internet IP address.

Another issue for people behind firewalls and routers is port forwarding. You will need to make sure that the following ports on your router are forwarded to the local network IP address for the computer you are racing on. Otherwise you might get the same problems listed above.

47624 TCP Inbound
2300-2400 TCP Inbound
2300-2400 TCP Outbound
2300-2400 UDP Inbound
2300-2400 UDP Outbound

How you do this depends on which router you have. Ask around - most routers have been used so somone should be able to help. If you already have it set up and working with MS zone then it should work ok here too. If you cannot set up port forwarding then you may need to put your computer in the DMZ instead - if you don't know how to do that also ask around as it's hardware dependent.

That should be about all you need to know to get started.

Have fun
Laurie

Hi, that's an old subject, I know, but I'm wondering if the TDzone is still working.
We need a time recorder for the MCM2revival community, and when I try to connect to the TDzone, it doesn't work.
Only new registration is working. Also, Startgate can't be downloaded.
Thks in advance.
Phil.  ;)

We can continue the discussion here ...  ;)

mcm2boys

It was working, but a while back Bruce moved the forums and TDZ from where it was over to one of his servers - it might have  moved again since then. TDZ used to run off the same user database as the forums so you could use the same login details, but that probably broke when the forum was updated and with the move to the new server since database access would most likely be different.

It's been a while since i looked at TDZ or Startgate so I couldn't easily say how easy it would be to get it back up and running. Bruce would need to get involved as well..?

Would be good though to see it get used again..

mcm2boys

When you say Startgate can't be downloaded, you mean you found the link on the profile page and it shows an error when you try to click on it, or you can't see the link..?

It just seems that the .zip file is no more there. I see the link.
And, ho, yeah, please, Bruce !!!  Please  ;D ;)

Ahh, ok - I can't fix that since my FTP access seems to be broken.

I have put startgate on my server until TD can be fixed but it can't login to TDZone at the moment - i tried and the TD server isn't accepting the connection. Also it needs to be run as administrator.

Link removed because TDZone works again..  :)

This is the last beta so might have some bugs but it's the latest version.

Big thanks to Bruce for getting me straigthened out with the server. TDZone is back up and running. I removed the link in the post above since the download is available from your profile page once you are registered and logged into TDZ.

Maybe it'll get some use now.

Have fun..

WOW I'll try that later this day !
Thanks so much guys !
See u soon.

Some stuffs don't work, chat in the lobby, (joining a room), etc.

Edit : In fact, I forgot to click in the Prompt for IP box.

Now we can race (test made with 3 racers), records are posting in the database but there is a problem in the records links, when I click on a track link to see the records, I see everytime the same riders on a track that have nothing to have with the choosed track, like that :

We are still doing tests ... but chat in the main lobby doesn't work at all, works only in rooms.

Now I'll try to config the ports of my router, it's not easy but I'll do it  :P

10.000 times THANKS guys !

I don't think chat in the lobby ever worked.. It's only written to chat in a room - i think - it was a long time ago.. :)

The records link is probably a similar problem to what caused it to not work at all - i can take a look and see what's happening.. - fixed it now you should see the times for the track that you selected..

Glad to hear it is useful.. :)

BPh

It's true, all is working again !

Thanks guys, it's so great ;-)

The MCM2 story can continue  ;D

BPh

I'm back  ;D ;D ;D

Any chance to see the TDzone available for 1 racer ?
I mean ... starting the game with only one player inside a room, it's for the time recorder !

I just hope more people will join the TD zone later in the season, in autumn & winter ...

See u  8)

Nice to see my first place- hot lap after all these years... :)

mcm2boys

It's a while back since i worked on it now, so i don't remember exactly why the Race button is disabled with only 1 player. I have a feeling that mcm2 needs 2 players to start a multiplayer session, but maybe not..

Also if i remember right people can't join you once you're in game, because the room gets locked once the race starts..

@Bob - it's an all TD top 6 front row lockout..  :)

Any chance to see the TDzone available for 1 racer ?

Have you tried install mcm2 2 times ?  ;D ;D ;D
Or install it on Vmware player or VirtualBox ?
^^^^With this ones , i think it will not work but....
Or install it in your old pc too ?  With this one should work , unless that there are IP conflicts tho.

TDzone is off again .

EDIT:
The firewall was blocking the version StartGate 1.33 b7 lol

RXR_Banjo

hey guys, we are 6-8 riders every night on gameranger, but it would be nice to play on td cuz it records lap times!

Hope to see you guys !!

mcm2boys

JPR,

so it is working ok..?

Yes ,its working fine now , firewall was blocking the version 1.33 b7 .

Laurie , in the download link of startgate , the download is of the version 1.33 beta6 , but the latest version is the 1.33 beta7 , i think would be better change the link so that we can use the latest version (beta 7 should be better than beta 6 tho)
StartGate133b7.zip

Hi Banjo , register in the TDzone (if you haven't done that) and lets race some tracks .

I'll take a look at putting beta7 up. The reason i haven't put it up before was that i don't think it was finished, but since i haven't worked on it for a long time now, it's probably as finished as it will get any time soon..

..ok the beta7 has been updated and the program reports the correct version number now as well.

Note: I should warn that there have been 2 changes of compiler since i last worked on StartGate so to make any modifications will need me to put a big effort into converting it for the new compiler. What this means is.. don't expect any updates anytime soon..  :-\

BPh

JP, I did your idea lol, MCM2 installed on an old XP computer, Startgate b7 too, 2 different accounts, ingame and in TDzone,
but Startgate couldn't enumerate connections,
there's still IP conflicts,
Is there someone here who can help us please ?
Was it possible to play online (Gaming Zone by example) MCM2 with 2 computers, in the past ?

By the way, thanks Laurie, one more time.

You can host a race in TDzone\mcm2 racing with other person ?
If not , you need check your firewall and router settings.

I could launch a tdzone\mcm2 race using vmware player with the same tdzone profile X2 , with the same mcm2 profile X2 , but after be in mcm2 ready to run the track , i go to vmware to click the ready button and vmware crashs lol

But as you are doing using 2 pcs its much better than with vmware .

Join to tdzone in the next days and we will try if you can host .
