hey guys, im new to this community but been around for about a year and a half in the mxs scene. Nothin to big.. i just play for *#*#*s n gigs, no tysen fresquez and tyler crain stuff. Ive been seeing youtube videos of user made tracks for reflex, reflex being one of my favorite mx games ever, i had to fork out the 20 bucks and try a hand at these tracks and track making. Of course the day i purchase Reflex on steam mxmaniacs goes down. so i tried to play the game normally without the custom tracks so i could have atleast a few more bikes than the blaze 250f. well that didnt go so well.. it lagged really bad, turned down the graphics tried again.. did some research, tweaked my pc settings a little, nothin.. dont get me wrong, i have a terrible setup. typical black friday deal pc laptop, it runs mx sim with low setting and doesnt do to bad online. These tracks im seeing for this game are amazing, im really bummed i missed this game in its prime, and i really want to put some laps in on them. Im hoping someone could help me out and maybe know what happened to mxmaniacs.com. And hopefully have some trick to get this game to run smoothly and point me in a good direction for making tracks. I dont want to see Reflex die :'( thanks guys!!

hey Moon427.
reflex is pretty much dead, but it still a favourite of mine too!!

for reflex you need at least a 512mb graphics card. what's your specs?
for the settings, id first try dropping the resolution to around 1280 to 720, then try turning off vsinc. and then try lowering the textures and shadows. I remember v sinc made a big difference to some people.

in the past mx maniacs will go down from time to time, and its usually back up in a week or so. maybe its been hacked, or maybe its being updated... im not shure what the reason is this time.
but there is another site with custom reflex tracks!!!! http://www.reflex-central.com/
I only have a couple of my own tracks on there, if mxmaniacs stays down for more than a week or so ill upload all my tracks there.

for tips for making reflex tracks. watch my YouTube tutorials, look in the wiki(link is at the top)
study all the stock reflex track images in the wiki, and learn from them! also sift through these forums as theres plenty of useful info in here!

Hi Moon,

I also have a similar performance problem on Reflex.  I turn my graphics settings all the way down, but it doesn't seem to help very much at all...  I think that the speed of your processor could be the problem.  I have a strong feeling that it's the source of my issues.

As for MxManiacs... Yes the site can go offline from time to time, but it generally comes back online within a week at the most.  At the end of last year it would happen almost once a month.  Like Al said, there is Reflex Central, but it only has a handful of tracks to ride.  The track creating scene has been very quiet this past year unfortunately.

Allan,
Feel free to upload your tracks mate.  If you want to do them all in one go, then you'll have to let me know, so that I can disable the imposed time limit between uploads.

Like you have already done, switch all the options to their lowest setting. The game uses a resolution of 1280 x 720, anything else has to be scaled to the selected screen sized at the end of each frame so you can get a small improvement by selecting the native screen resolution of 1280 x 720.

I think we will see a new dawn for Reflex in the near future when the game's server patch is released.  :)

Reflex also likes Cuda's and memory bus width.  What video card do you have?  At my lowest end I used an NVidia 8800 GTS and it was just good enough.  I got better results using Vsync with it because it made the frame rate consistent.  Nothing worse then swinging from 20 to 80 FPS.  It's much better to be stuck at 30 or 40 and have it swing between 20 and 30 depending on what you are looking at.

You also need a pretty decent graphics card to play Grasslands or Head shake.  Those tracks really use up your card.

My slowest PC cpu wise was an AMD 6400 X2.  I would say that is close to the minimum also that you would want.  Reflex was quite playable on it but if it was any slower or had a lower end video card it would be unbearable to play.

I am currently using an AMD 965 X4 and Radeon HD 7770 and an i7/GT650 Macbook Pro and they both play it quite well.  The Macbook is actually a little better then my desktop.

Well, I am running a new i5 3570K with a GTX 660 OC (3 gig) running 3 27 screens for my iRacing rig!
