Last night I setup MCM 2 on Windows 8, so I figured I would post this here in case anyone else is trying to do it.  The steps are the same for me as it was for Windows 7.

I had MCM 2 working in Windows 7 64 bit and I just set it up on Windows 8 64 bit using the same method.  I have an ATI video card (AMD Radeon HD 6670) and MCM 2 won't work if you have more then 2 GIG of memory.

I use EasyBCD to create a new startup boot option that limits memory to 2 gig.  This can also be done in MSConfig under the boot tab and then "Advanced options...".

I install from the CD.  Before running MCM 2 I set the compatibility mode to XP SP 3 and check 'Run as Administrator".

I run MCM 2 and it will only use Software Rasterization.  I go into settings and disable the startup video.  You can do this instead of messing with trying to get the correct codec loaded. I believe this is saved in the user profile.  I've never tried looking for it there.  It doesn't appear to be a registry setting.  If  you can't change this because your hardware rasterization is working then you could try selecting software rasterization or renaming the ui\intro.avi file in order to get to the settings.  I've heard of people renaming ui\events.avi to intro.avi to get around this.

I then exit and edit this registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Motocross Madness 2\DriverInfo\{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}\DisabledHardware

I set it to 0.

If you start out with only 2 gig then you may not have to do the step above.  I always seem to install before I mess with the memory.

I then reboot into the mode where I'm limited to 2 gig. I can then pick my video card and MCM 2 works.

I use an XBox 360 wired controller.

I really haven't had any problems with Windows 8.  I use StarDock's Start8 and I hardly ever see Metro.

While I can get MCM 2 to run on Windows 8, I haven't been able to get decent frame rates.  My frame rate is less then 30fps.  It seems to be locked at 30, but not quite able to keep up with it.  I could live with it if it was solidly locked to 30, but it isn't.  I turn off vsync and it doesn't change anything.  I tried different resolutions and options and they all have the same frame rate.

I run the exact same MCM 2 on the same cpu and video card on XP SP 3 and I get about 330 FPS if I let it run without vsync and if I use vsync it locks at my monitor's refresh rate of 60.

I'm not sure what is wrong with it.  I've never paid attention on Windows 7 what my frame rate was, because I just had it to look at tracks and not race on.  I would like to do some MCM 2 racing this winter so I figured I would add it to Windows 8.  I'm probably bleeding edge at getting MCM 2 to work on Windows 8.  I'd be curious if anyone else has tried.

My system is:

AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4Ghz w 4 Gig of ram.
Radeon HD 6670 with 1 Gig of ram
The resolution I run at is 1680x1050

I just can't give up on XP as all my favorite games work best on it. I just dual boot- best of both worlds....

When i gave mcm2 a run on Windows7, with a similar setup to yours, PhenomXII and a ATI5790 (Not sure if the grfx card nr is right), i could only get it to run in software simulation mode, so not using the grfx hardware at all. It ran pretty well with reasonable fps. Maybe that's happenning to you under Win8?

I tried messing with the MCM2 driver settings in the registry, the menus worked but then it hung when it went to run a track, switching back to software rendering and it worked fine, if a little slow..

Thanks for the info, sounds the same as the process in 7.

Now I just have to figure out why I'm limited to 640x480 resolution (using hardware not software rendering mode).

I got MCM2 running on Win7-64 now thx to DirtTwister's post here.

RE: 2 GB RAM limit... I needed the step by step before it clicked...

"...just run MSConfig and reboot.

1. Run MSConfig.
2. Click on "Boot" tab
3. Select the boot option you want (if you have multiple OS's) then click "Advanced Options"
4. Check "Maximum memory"
5. Enter 2048
6. Close MSConfig applying your changes and reboot.

To put it back do the same thing and uncheck "Maximum memory"
