I'm curious what people's thoughts are about MX vs ATV Reflex.  I'm sure it will take a while for people to start straggling back in here.  As Steam lets me know I've played 118 minutes so far.  My initial thoughts are:

1. It takes more PC then I have to play at 60 FPS.  I have an AMD X2 6400 with Nvidia 8800 video card.
2. I am currently running it at 1280x800 and am getting 26 to 30 FPS.  At 1680x1050 I am only getting 15 to 20 FPS.
3. I have only used it with the XBox 360 controller.
4. It will take a while before I am used to controlling the rider properly, but I definitely like what the controls add to the game.  It does end up feeling like Extreme Biker or MX Mania at times when the bike rolls or turns around 180 degrees.   If I stay on top of it the controls are great.  It's just every now and then I get a little out of control.  It might be once or twice a lap or it might be every other lap.  I'm sure it will get better with experience.
5. I'm digging the big muddy/sandy mess the National tracks are and railing the berms on the SX tracks and getting a fast shot into the triple or whoops.  It's just not an every lap experience for me yet.  I certainly can make lots of mistakes.  I think it will make for some great racing.
6. I'm liking the tracks.  I'm finding lots of things close to my heart, like variance across the tops of jumps so the line choice is more important or you have options.  I like how that changes each lap as the track changes.
7. Of course I like all the dozer tracks.
8. I like that I'm actually using the brakes.  I'm finding some turns that it is just better to slightly drag the brakes.  On some laps you really get a head of steam up and you may have to drag your brake over a jump so that you don't over jump.  On some tracks if you go too fast and are slightly out of time with the jumps you can really bounce of the track.  Great stuff.

I have yet to taste the multi-player.  The true test for me will be racing while on TeamSpeak and seeing how accurate the multiplayer is.

Hey Bruce, I was having major slow downs running anything MX however I ran some ATV online last night and no performance issues. I was wondering if anyone else could confirm that this might be a MX/MXlite bike only issue? I really love this game and it can be golden if we get a fix to patch controller issues and the performance issues

DesertRat

Bruce,

I posted some thoughts over at MDX on their board but overall I'm quite impressed by Reflex.  The separate rider weight control adds some needed depth that really makes you work to produce consistent laps.  Visually, the game is beautiful and real time deformation of track surface is phenomenal, especially when the ruts get peg deep and actually affect the available lines in corners. Guess I'm one of the fortunate ones but I haven't had any noticeable issues with in game performance (Q6600, 8800GTX, 4GB Ram, Win XP).  I wonder if the problems experience by some users is OS related?  A couple of my friends have Win7 64-bit with i7's and ATI 5870's but they also had zero issues.  Hopefully, they'll release a patch sooner than later to address the performance issues and would be nice if they added native support for more controllers (I was able to successfully setup a PS2 dual analog via a utility called JoytoKey).

So......I'll be the 1st to ask the big question, lol.  Do you think there is any remote chance of reverse engineering UE2/MVA map editor to produce tracks for Reflex?  I know this might be a serious long shot but someone has to ask ;).

We have the same interests and only time will tell.  For now I'm enjoying the tracks that came with it.

I tried to start a discussion with THQ/Double Helix/Rainbow/Steam and I haven't gotten anywhere yet.  I've just made phone calls and was given an e-mail address. I'm trying to see if they had any plans for allowing user made or downloadable content.  We would want to play properly within whatever scheme they might have.  If anybody could get me in contact with the proper people I would greatly appreciate it.

Hey guys, long time no see.

Glad to hear some positive comments on Reflex.

Bruce, I've been in contact with Laurie for quite some time now, since the announcement of the Reflex for the PC and seems he's been doing some digging.  As I told him, I'll answer what I can!  We just got word that Double Helix is working on some issues taht should alleviate some of the frame rate hits and such.  I'll tryand keep peaking back here from time to time and answer what I can.  We just threw this update up on our site:

For those of you that purchased MX vs ATV Reflex for the PC we thank you for your continued support of the franchise.  I have some updates to share with all of you regarding the PC version that our good friends at Double Helix made regarding corrected computer specs and bug fixes that they are currently working on.  The specs have not been updated on Steam as of this writing so if there is any question please use the information below unless you hear otherwise from us in the future:
•   Windows(R) XP or Vista(R) or Windows(R) 7
•   Athlon 64 3800+ 2.4Ghz or better / Intel Pentium 4 530 3.0Ghz or better
•   1GB RAM (Windows(R) XP) or 2GB RAM (Vista(R), Windows(R) 7)
•   NVIDIA GeForce 8 Series or better / ATI 2000 Series or better) with latest manufacturer drivers
•   DirectX(R) 9.0c compatible sound card
•   6.5GB of uncompressed hard drive space
•   Online Steam account

Here are some of the bigger fixes I was able to take notes on to share with you.  Please note that there will be minor changes implemented also that may affect only a smaller percentage of users.

They're going to work on the CPU useage going down when you minimize the game
Fix the keyboard control function to assign keys for localized keyboards other than English along with correcting some keystrokes
Working on framerate issues that some of you may be experiencing with ATI Radeon graphic cards
Troubleshooting issues that were reported using Logitech Dual Action Gamepad controller
Trying to address players with lower end computers to run the same speed in game as higher computers in both single and multiplayer.

As I get more information such as......when this will be rolled out, I'll let you know.

Thanks for the info.  I'm curious about one thing.  I'm sure you guys all work as a team, but is it safe to say that MOTO448 is one of yours.  It's my favorite National so far.   I also love Lago Dell'Orgo (I think that's the name).

Riesenberg448

Yea, Moto448 is one of mine of course.  :)

RedneckXprss, thanks for the update i was impressed before hearing about the fixes.. :) Any chance of making sure that Steam is set up to allow custom tracks, models and skins - if it isn't already? Maybe even support for them, big ask i know but if you don't ask..

DesertRat, work has already begun on an editor, UE2 is being stripped down and refitted for Reflex. It won´t be complete right away because RBW seemed to have changed 99% of the file formats which means a lot of digging. So i will start with a simple terrain builder, then extend it as we learn more..

Riesenberg448

Laurie,

I am chris/checkerz who has been emailing you, the message from RedneckXpress I copied from our forum as he threw that up there.  :)  As far as the editor/what's allowed... waiting game for us right now for answers before I have any answers for you guys.

Hi guys its been a long time. Been playing this game all weekend and just love the player movement on the bike as you can just rail the corners. The terrain changing is very awesome feature, every lap is a new negotiation ;).

i'm running a
AMD Phenom II x4 955 3.20ghz
4 gig ram
Geforce GTS 250 Card
windows 7 pro 64
and no performance issues with this setup.

One issue i am seeing is i have problems getting into games. Always seeing no session available. I do get into some reflex games, not many. Might be a port problem on my end but every other game i dont have an issue like this. edit: I turned dmz on for this machine and im still getting the No Session available.  EDIT: This only happens with certain people i try to race with. If i'm in game they cant join, if they are in a game i cant join.

Is there any chances of getting a zone made for this game? Edit: Steam is a new zone in its own

Edit: 1 other issue i've been seeing. When hosting a private session on Nats it starts in freeride then after that race it goes to the nats i have choosen which has the freeride menu showing.  Edit: Once you play career mode and win a few this problem goes away. It only seems to happen when you havent ran career mode.

reading most your guys replies, it seems that you guys havent played the console version? as it seems its all new? this correct?

DirtTwister

I have played the console version, but I didn't play it much.  I'm not a big fan of playing stuff like this on my 360.  I pretty much just play stuff that my family likes.  I probably have about an hour on the 360 version.

Playing on my PC with my nose about 18-24 inches away from the screen makes for a completely different experience.

DesertRat

Like wise I played the game a bit on my son's 360 (couple weekend rentals) but honestly I'm not a fan of XBL and the crowd it attracts "in general".  Game is the same but includes all console DLC plus looks much better IMO at higher PC resolutions, all at 1/3 of the original console price;D.

Great to hear there is some ground work started on a terrain editor.  Hoping Double Helix is open minded about 3rd party content since it can only help to increase sales over time.

Just upgraded to a 1gb gtx 460 and already running a 2.8 i7 chip and it runs at 55-60 fps almost all the time.  That's a given with my specs but even with a crappy little 512mb ddr2 card it would run everything except nationals at 25-30 fps.

I like it so far but coming from playing it extensively on PS3 and seeing this is a 360 port (at least from the controller the game pictures) I can tell physics differences between the two.  This one has a little heavier front end which also results in a little more corner grip.

Can't wait to get a plug in for .package files and get to work.  8)

My computer has more then enough specs to play game correctly..Here is what the issue looks like for some ATI video cards." model vid card is 2400XT in video clip" The overall look in game is perfect and everything seems to work correctly except the "slo motion" game play.

DesertRat

Glad to see the front news page updated with Reflex news:).  Now I just hope Double Helix will remove the online 30 fps cap sooner than later because it has ruined the experience.  My guess is that they received the directive from someone at Rainbow as a fix which was a poor decision.  Now a 60 fps cap would make more sense without adversely affecting the the game play not to mention the eye strain caused by a constant, forced 30 frames :o.

Riesenberg448

Sorry I popped away for a few days, appeared the site was down and it fell out of my daily loop of forums to check.

Double Helix has been notified of the frustration with the 30FPS cap being experienced from the community, beyond that, I'm not sure where they will take the feedback.  At the end of the day, this is their product, anything we recommend to them is just a recommendation.

Dudes!  Long time so see...  ::)

I wrote a quick review on another website:

THE NEW ZONE - Live Voice Chat – Race Room
I have an event calendar everyone can post on to set up race nights on my site too.

After I wrote my first impression post there, I had a killer night racing online yesterday.
That was so much fun... with only 3-4 of us online!

I also ran in several full gate races last weekend.
We should all try to pack as many full race gates as we can every Monday night.

What do think?

I'm going to go post the event... oh wait, I'm back already with a link!
http://motogameracing.com/forum/index.php?action=calendar

See you guys at the track!

Bulldog

It was reat racing with you last night King!  It brought back some  memories of the good old days!

AMA_King

Last night was an awesome set of races for some reason Bulldog.
I think because Bruce was just rolling one track after another for quick 3 laps.  Lots of fun!

You gotta' be online for the Monday MX series.
We want a full starting gate every week for the New Year!
