Hey peeps,

I know this is VERY abstract, however what about a open source motocross game.

I know this is a great deal of work and we are all very busy. It seems to me that we wont be getting any moto game anytime soon.
I know Laurie has some stuff he has built for MCM2 as well as MX vs. ATV(and is a freakin genius I might add). Benoit the developer of Motocross the Force, all the KILLER track and model makers(you know who you are) and I'm sure there is more genius lurking in these forums.
What if it was something "light" to get going on? Where if something was started it would mature as more and more people became attached. One track, one bike, etc...
The possibilities would be endless....
Producing the game and its components could be created in all open source software under a license we see fit. There are A LOT of really nice full featured apps to create the content. Did I mention they are free!!!
We could use commercial software as well.

The above people I mentioned, I'm not volunteering In anyway. I wanted to mention them for example.

This is a awesome community with a lot of love for gaming and most important MOTOCROSS! It would be remarkable If we could pull a nice moto game together.

What do you think?

Thanks,

Brody

we have activity over at the motocross gamers forums. check it.......

btw: This site has alot of activity. Most have been hijacked.

This is something i have been trying to slowly work towards since i started writing the editor for mcm2. I keep getting distracted with other things like the trick editor but i finally feel like a lot of the pieces are falling into place. I'm afraid i'm not thinking about an open source approach, but it will definitely have tools for custom models makers and track makers to do their thing.

I wouldn't expect it any time soon though..

Laurie,

Thanks for chiming in, I was hoping you would. I posted this at TD because I know you guys have been the pioneers for many AMAZING tools.

The last few days I've been looking around at the other sites, looking at all the tools and so forth. I had the same thought. This is right under or noses. You and TD have created some killer apps and I believe you guys have the knowledge and expertise to get it done. I say this from a outside perspective. I know its a great deal of work. I would really like to be part of it. Im sure others would like to be part of it as well.

Well, I was thinking the open source approach to interest people. You have a huge amount of time into coding your apps. I can understand you feelings on that.
It would be benificial to have releases for windows, mac linux, etc.. An open source would allow more coders to contribute, making it more robust.

The anticipation is killing me already. LOL.

Thanks,

I always like to check by the forums here at twisted dirt every month or so to see if there is that one game thats gonna get me back into the racing scene around you guys. I was known as RRC_Goat , GVS_Goat, ColdGoat, VRT_ILLo(never really left them just went inactive so i might still be a part of VRT), and a few other names around the MCM2 racing days.

Its great to see some activity in these forums as its not very common. I feel like I have to check here every once in a while because of the endless fun that I experienced while play MCM2 when it was in its prime.

I'd love to see something like this happen, and if there were to be anything I could do I would be honored.

I'll stay a bit more active on here if I seem some more news about everyones thoughts and what not.

Thx, Illo (dillon curry)

I was a litte kid about  9years old when i used to play mcm2 and i can remeber all sweet things we had there , ill remeber those sweet days untill get died ! im sure about that...
Allright i've beeen playing MXS and trying do my best for this community but i dont know , first of all its a FREE egine and like the guy that work on game want make everthing alone , he doesnt want help that put me down , he work so hard on script *#*#* and forget the things about  graphics and these stuffs

I'm still working on something, here's a little (very little and very poor quality) clip to give you an idea of what will be in the next release of UE2..

ToaDsiX

Laurie~

WOW thats awesome. Its nice to see progress. Please keep us posted!!!!

mcm2boys

There should be a release of this version sometime soon..

yzmxer608

Whoa, how did you change the bike sounds???  MessiaH would really like to know how to do that, that's if you want to share (Would be best to PM him) More info: MvA 2009

mcm2boys

The video is from UE2's test rider not MvA in game, so no i haven't changed the sounds in MvA..

yzmxer608

Ah ok, I was thinking about that before and thought that's what you did.  Thanks for clarifying :).

RKipker

ow... looks like a fantastic beginning!  Will it use all MVA tracks?
Randall Kipker
Attack Life... it's Going to Kill You Anyway!
1800C for "Custom"

mcm2boys

If you mean the UE2 test rider then yes it's uses the tracks built for MvA, although eventually it will have it's own track format and from what i know MvA2009 there are new models, tracks and mods to the MVA UI files, so again yes that will use MvA tracks.

Garasaki

Wow that's crazy - Twisteddirt MX game.  Are the physics any different from MvA?

I mean other then tweaking the gravity values and what not.

mcm2boys

The Physics uses PhysX engine so it's completely different, but at the moment i have pretty much all the variables i use to adjust the physics in a rollout under the Options tab. So you can adjust the tire friction coefficients, springs, how the riders body weight affects the atv and atv parameters like power, weight, gear ratios and few other bits..

It's not really a game yet, this is just a test rider in UE2, and the word test is more about me testing the physics and game concepts rather than for you guys testing your tracks. In fact with the physics, being quite different to MvA means that tracks made for MvA don't make for easy riding with the test rider. The physics are a little more sensitive than those for MVA so the tracks need to be smoother otherwsie the bounce makes it pretty uncontrollable, but i'm finding that the MvA stock tracks run quite well. It's still pretty basic but i've been having a lot of fun playing testing it ..

Garasaki

Um, it's not only for ATV's is it????   ::)

Have you payed any attention to MX Simulator>?

mcm2boys

:) it's not even a game yet, just an ATV test rider in UE2 which i am using because 4 wheels is easier to get to grips with in terms of the physics than 2. This is one step on the way towards a game which as i have it in my head at the moment will include bikes, but to be honest that is (the game) probably some way off.

I am hoping to release the next (and possibly finak) version of UE2 with the ATV test rider in it in the next few days, just putting the final few bits in place.

I have seen and played MXS, not really sure if i've paid attention to it, so what would you want me to take away from it that i might not have?

Garasaki

Well I'm not sure that there was anything in particular you might take away from MXS, other then the fact that it's a MX game built on a free game engine.

Selfishly, I'd rather see 2 brillant minds working together to produce a single MX game then see 2 brillant minds working independantly to produce 2 MX games - since basically it's the same set of problems you'd both be encountering, rather then solving them twice, you could solve them twice as fast (or twice as good!).

That's a simplistic point of view though.

mcm2boys

I see where you're coming from, but i guess i'm a little too selfish for that. I think JV has done a good job but i wouldn't want to give up development of my own game engine and i'm guessing he wouldn't want to give up his either. Also while i love playing RBW's MX games i want to shoot for a wider target than MX only. I'm a fan of all racing and off road games and like you said 'once you have the basic problems cracked' it's not a big leap to add new vehicle and race types, they don't have to be all mixed in one race but they can be, i guess it's about having more choices..

MX bikes will be there, that's my next challenge, to develop a physics model for the MX bike and make it ridable. Personally i think MXS is too hard to ride but i am fully expecting it to be hard to find the right mix of ridability and challenge to the player. I was surprised to see that some people enjoyed the fact that it took a long time to learn to ride in MXS and even more surprised to see people are prepared to pay for it, so i did pick up a few things from MXS but i have a few different ideas as to where i'm going with this.

I will probably have one last release of UE2 with an MX test rider before i start the conversion of it from just an editor to a full blown game..
