97.2 gives the same results.

Hey CnB, this is a wild shot but, what is the path to your custom object folder?

Crashnburn11

c:/mcm2/trackeditor/usermodels
the only thing im skeptical about is that my OS is on the D: drive, but i dont think that would make a difference when D2 was looking for textures.

The only thing you need to worry about concerning the game folder is that the Registry settings of the game are right, there is a value in there called RootPath or something like that that D2 uses to find the game and the files.. If that doesn't match where mcm2 is installed then it will cause problems, but D2 probably wouldn't start..

This talk about OSs makes me wonder if there is some kind of file/folder rights issue in play here for these folders or certain file types and D2 is being denied access to them. This seems unlikely if the objects show up in the editor when you place them because this obviously requires the files to be read too..

does D2 have problems with any graphics cards that mcm2 doesn't laurie? i have integrated graphics so i was just wondering.

mcm2boys

It shouldn't have a problem with integrated gfx so long as it supports DirectX 8. The only problem could come because D2 doesn't let you choose which adapter to use, it will always use the first one it finds which if you have more than 1 adapter could be the 'wrong' one. But what happens in that case i can't say because i have never been able to test it using the computers that i have.

Crashnburn11

i have found another problem:  D2 will not create tree shadows for my tracks either.  it just comes up all black.  if i move my files to the home pc that the kids use d2 works fine, so it is something on my end on my laptop.  Anyone got any ideas that would cause d2 to have problems with textures and shadowing?

mcm2boys

Can you give us a few specs for the laptop, cpu, OS, version of directX and anything you think might be relavent?

You can get all black shadows if you have an object that covers all of the terrain, like a stadium, but i have a feeling you're going to say you don't have a stadium..

It sounds like it could be gfx drivers related..

Just today after read this i found that with my new pc and video card i have that problem also , 7900GS with 94.24 drivers ,
dillotoo 97.4 and 97.2 make shadows on all the terrain but i tryed with DilloToo97b2 and the shadows work , so theres something diferent between 97b2 and 97.4 \ 97.2 .
I tryed this on a track im building that dont have any objects (no water and stadiuns) , tested this with some trees and bales.

Crashnburn11

i had no objects, just trees.

for laptop it is Win xp sp2, intel centrino(1695 MHZ), Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family(drivers 6.14.10.4410), 512mb ram, directx 9.0

There are a lot of differences between 97.2 and 97.4 since 97.2 i was moving to a new structure so i had to recode a lot of things and that changed and broke a few things, it was part of moving towards supporting MVA and other future games. I don't know why the shadows aren't working, but i'll take another shot at compiling D2 and see what gives..

Crash

I noticed that there are new drivers available for your chipset http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/intel915gm/ ..well they have different version numbers.  :)

I think the integrated gfx card doesn't support all of the functions of DX8.

I'm afraid i still don't have anymore ideas why it isn't packing the objects. Which version of XP do you have Home or Pro? I wonder if running D2 in one of the compatability modes would make a difference..

I'm sorry for bumping an ancient topic, but I recently got back into MCM2, use DilloToo, and get the exact same error this person gets when exporting with custom objects. I have a laptop, with an Intel integrated graphics card. My MCM2 directory is C:\MCM2 like it should be, my TrackEditor directory is C:\MCM2\TrackEditor, and my User Models folder is correct. Wow. 8 years and this still isn't solved. One of my friends on another MCM2 site has Win 7 64 bit like I do and he uses DilloToo all the time with custom objects with no problem. I PM'ed him about this issue and he has yet to respond. At first I thought this had to do with custom models I myself made, but this happens when I place any custom model in a track in DilloToo, even the ones with 256x256 textures.

I'm afraid it's 8 years because development on D2 stopped pretty much when Unleashed came out. Sorry but i don't see me getting to this anytime soon either. It does look like it is related to specific setups, so it's hard to say whether it's a D2 issue or maybe it can be solved with changes to PC setup.

MX_Cardinal

If you've noticed, the only three people on this forum who've had this problem (including me) all have/had laptops with integrated graphics cards. I installed everything MCM2 and DilloToo on a desktop my friend gave me with a GeForce G6000 or something card and saving with custom objects worked fine. I think the error has something to do with the fact that I'm using a laptop with an integrated card. So my conclusion, don't use DilloToo on these laptops, no matter how old or new they are, since it is an integrated graphics card, there might be something about it that DilloToo doesn't like. I've got Windows 2000 on that machine, Windows 7 64 on my laptop, but I'm upgrading to Windows 8.1 on my desktop. I think DilloToo should work, since BPh uses it with no problem on Win 7 64, which is what's on my laptop and I initially thought was the cause of my problem.

mcm2boys

Thanks for the compete feedback, i can at least give it some thought with that in mind and see if there is any reason why integrated gfx should cause an issue. Does your laptop also have gfx card on top of the integrated gfx (igfx)? Tho once D2 has selected a gfx card it should work so long as the drivers support dx8.1 What is your igfx card model?

MX_Cardinal

OMG! THE CREATOR OF DILLOTOO IS STILL HERE AND IS TALKING TO ME!!! I have intel Integrated Graphics. I have a Compaq Presario CQ57 that I bought in 2012.

mcm2boys

Lol, like a bad penny i just keep turning up..

Do you have another gfx card in your laptop as well as the the Intel or is it only the integrated chip. Do you know which Intel gfx chip it is, it might be that some of the DX capabilities are not supported?

MX_Cardinal

No, I don't have another graphics card on my laptop. I'm not sure which Intel card it is, either. I also noticed that on DilloToo on my laptop, not all of the objects show up. But on my desktop, they do.
