New windows instalation, what i need now to all be ok? Help.

hi.
i got my adsl now and when i came to net the 1ºhour i was attacked lol,  dont know wht is was but crash my net conection to a very slow conection,,,,,   now i install windows again and NORTON ANTI virus   LOL  (looks like xp+net is like cat and mouse lol). now is better but i think i need to put more some programs or something to this work without problems. i read something about SP1 and SP2 ,,, explorer,,,,  xp hotfix ,  blablabla .. .. . . .     any of u can tell me what i need to put all running ok ?
i just have XP, and nothing more, o i have norton and popup filter and now is better.

ooh and after i instal xp, i though he format the hard drive but dint, how i can format and them instal windons?

When installing Windose XP, there should be an option to 'delete' the partitions... which should remove everything from the pute and let you start fresh. I'm not sure about the pop-ups and adware.. I do not get anything like that, and I'm the king of pornographic downloadation! Is that a word?

i was with attention when xp install start, but dont have delet (format ) button....   just have install new windows or re-install. i shoose inst new widows.     Format is something in bios, i can go to bios but then i dont know waht to chage there,  and i didnt touch nothing to this dont blast lol.
Moto, wht net browser u use..   ?    and u just have windws and no more progrms to all runn ok?

yea, I just have XP and use Explorer for browsing. I use the built in pop-up blocker Google supplies and that seems to work fine. Granted I get a few pop ups here and there, but nothing out of control.

After format ajnd new windows instal, pc is running good. 
and Norton full time now lol.
