I just built a new pc and MCM2 seems really jittery on this compared to other pc's I've built jittery. I'm sure this has been asked a few times but I don't really have the time to search the whole forums. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

My system:

Windows XP Pro  (SP2)
Pentium 4  3.4 GHz
Main board: Intel D915PBL
800 MHz FSB
Hard drive: Maxtor 120 GB SATA
Graphics card: Asus Extreme  AX 700 Pro   PCI Express

Run media player in the background, try switching to win9x compatibility in the MCM2 icon properties. All i can think of right now..

Turn VSync on or off (toggle it) in your video settings.

Thanks for the help. Much better!  :)

Can i ask why you would run media player in the background?

I'm not totally sure how, i think it uses up CPU cycles but there might be some other 'under the hood' windows thing going on as well that just syncs MCM2 properky when media player is running. It has been a known XP zoom bug fix for a while, but i'm not sure that is the thing that fixed it this time. :)

in your video card settings, i found that turning the "V sync" of didnt make any difference,  but i was given a "tool" that allows you to tweak your card and turning V sync of with that gave me "Hyper bike"  im running win 2k.      someone said that turning Vsync of with just the advanced settings "doesnt" truly turn it off ? ?   but this little proggy did.      i dont know just thought id mention it.

well, I've tried running media player in the background and i'm not seeing any vsync switch. I am still getting jitters. Thanks for the replies. My last reply said I said "much better"  it was for a bit then the next time I ran the game it was back with jitters.

I think that's an ATI based card, so if you have Catalyst drivers installed (mine are v4.9) then you will find it under the 3D (Direct 3D) tab of the advanced Display settings, then press the custom button. You should see a slider next to Wait for VSync, set it to the right most position.

You have a very fast machine compared to the PCs around when MCM2 was written, so i think it is over-revving MCM2 and that's what causes the jitters, i'm guessing you have very high FPS, could try increasing your in-game resolution to Max that usually puts the brakes on a little.

yeah im hitting 100FPS avg on most tracks and its getting pritty bad jitter. im running at 1024 x 768. maybe ill up the res nd try that

the higher your settings the smoother the game....wish my comp worked that way.

Laurie, thanks for the tip. i highered my res. and now it runs smooth like butter. i also turned off v-sync. Thanks so much

Thanks Laurie. I still seem to get a little jitter when I just play offline. In the zone however, it seems to be much better now.

You might have something running in the background that is taking up CPU cycles in bursts, like an anti-virus program checking files or the MS indexing service. If you check your Task Manager (ctrl+alt+del - select task manager|Processes) then look for a process that has a high number in the CPU column apart from MCM2.exe - that will probably be the problem.

Don't shut any processes off unless you know what they are and that they are not needed by the system. :)
