I know that we've talked about this topic before, but i want to give my opinion on the game..

My wife scored me a xbox for xmas(well for my kids :P) anyway, i went and bought mx unleashed.
This is the best motocross game I have ever played to date! I am very happy with my purchase. I really like the way the rider reacts to the terrain, the way the preload works( it can be a little unrealistic in that department but its a game right?) the way the rider moves on the bike, etc.. etc... It is truely mcm3

Anyway, MX vs. ATV unleashed is coming in Feb. It will support xbox live and xbconnect(gamelink)
still no track editor, as far as I know. It might be fun for a while.

What do you guys think???

From my experience, you'll see MXU will get old really fast.  Thus, the replay value is very low. Unfortunately....it is a great game, and I also think it's extremely close to being MCM3...to a certain point.   But, what's missing is the whole customizability part of it.  (i.e. Tracks, Skins, etc...), and multiplayer.  These are the essential things that made MCM2...heck even MCM1 fun!  Almost seems like Rainbow took a step backwards in the fun department.  At least what's fun for me and a few people on these boards.

I also "dream" about taking a few of my old MCM1 and MCM2 tracks out for a spin on the new physics engine, can you imagine the fun we'd all have?!?!  First it would be totally awesome and it would really make a lot of people very happy.  Including myself.

yeah i have to agree, making a game thats not as fulfilling as the last is a bit silly.
a game that looks great but can only be played as single player is a BIG step backwards, as for tracks and skins that what keeps the whole thing going.

imagine mcm or mcm2 just had stock tracks and single player, how long would they have lasted?  you wouldnt even remember there names by now.

When you want as many people to buy your next game as possible, do you want people to still be playing the last one at the end of the development cycle (6-12months)?

Would adding a track editor make the game playable for more or less time?

If people liked the last one enough that they played it for that long, then they would be the first ones in line eager to get the new version.

Most games if I don't keep playing it I'm not even interested in the next one or I'll wait until I can get it cheap.

Kids always want the next version because they played through the last one. I like games that have staying power and customization, I would buy the next version if it built on the last and continued to evolve.

Well. I thinks it great that we can customize mcm2. I still play mcm2 alot. However I also find myself playing the stock tracks alot.

So... I was just thinking that there might be more interest in this particular version(mx vs. atv) because we could play online.  MXU is stagnet because of no multiplayer( and customization).

I know not everybody wants to kick down the coin for xbox live, there is an alternative.  xbconnect or xlink(better). Its free, and  works  off the game link thing. Its software you put on your computer to hook your xbox up to the web for muliplayer action.

I just think that this version will be more interesting ;D

I wasn't trying to be a smart ass there (which it looks like when i read it back) i'm just suggesting how i think THQ approach the business of selling games based on what i see they've given us so far. I would love for them to give us all that we want - i just don't see it. If it costs them more to do something than they think that effort will return in profits it just won't get done. This is mostly due to the bean counters running these corporations not the coders or artists that work for them - who i believe really do love to expand the games as much as we do and them to.

I agree other companies use strategies that include user communities successfully, but the evidence so far is that THQ doesn't want to go down that route and shows no sign of changing direction. Finally i disagree that disappointed users won't buy the next game, most people here will still buy the next MX game from Rainbow, because like movies you don't know if its good or bad until you tried it yourself.

Sorry if that sounds negative, i'm not trying to be, it's just what i think THQ are thinking from what i've seen them doing.
