question for the TD crew...

i want to remake palm springs, its such an awesome track, can u rip it for me and get me the disp map, tex, and all that good stuff? i want to make new jumps, and  riding spots, and houses, and maybe a night time version...

if not... can someone supply me with some really good sand dune height maps?

I can't tell you where to find any good dune height maps but this might be helpful for making one (at least a start):


1. Make a new canvas and fill it with black.

2. Make sure that the foreground colour is white and background colour is black.

3. Make a new layer and go to filter > render > clouds.

4. Now go to filter > blur > 'Gaussian blur' and blur it until it looks smooth enough (no hard edges, or at least very few of them), it depends on the size of the canvas and how the clouds came out, etc, etc.

5. Repeat step 3 and 4. Then put the newly created layers layer mode to "Darken"

6. Do step 3-5 again and again and again untill it starts to look like some height map dunes.


This is pretty trial and error'ish and it's also pretty random so results may vary. Try to play with 'Curves' and 'brightness/contrast' on some of the layers and you might end up with something looking like dunes.

To make it like palm springs I guess that it'll need some mighty airbrushing and tweaking on that too but it's at least a start if you can't find a ready to go map/get the actual palm springs disp extracted.

thats a damn good idea, but its wayyy too much work, id think id like to remake palm springs, but if all else fails, i may jus do that or drop the idea all togeather

Someone pointed out to me that you mean the stock Rainbow quarry.  I won't be handing out Rainbow's dispmaps.  I thought you wanted to have a track of yours recovered.
