Hey guys,
I just installed my ATI Radeon 9600 SE and I don`t even think my computer detects it. This is what happened:
Before I took my NVidia card out, (A crappy rivatnt2 or something) I uninstalled it through add/remove programs just like the manual says. After that my screen when all weird with colors and was stuck on 640x480 or whatever. I then put the new radeon in, installed it with the cd-rom and what not, and nothing has changed! It won`t let my change the display, the colors are weird, and when I look at my adapters, it says I have a Standard PCI Graphics adapter (VGA). And under manufacturer, it says (Standard display types). Now I`m not too smart with computers, but this leads me to think that the computer is still not detecting ANY card in it. Here is my system: (Bought in 2001)
Compaq
AMD Athlon 1ghz
128mb ram

Thanks for ANY help!

Is it truely an ATI card.  I had a similar problem with my wife's computer once.  It had an ATI 9000 Pro chipset but it was a different vendor.  Can't remember the name off the top of my head. The ATI drivers wouldn't recognize the card.  I had to have the drivers from the vendor of the card.  It's the only time I ever had that problem.

The problem I believe with my card was that XP couldn't detect it was an ATI card and then start the correct drivers.  If it's an ATI card I would contact ATI.

I`m pretty sure it is..I bought it from futureshop..the box says ATI on it all over so It has to be I think.
Oh and BTW I am running Windows ME.

You might try reseating the card in the slot- with the power off of coarse..

Have you connected the molex connector- 12volt power wire?

I'm not sure if that model has one but all of mine do.

Nah I've got the 9600 XT 128mb card Bob and it doesn't have one. If this is an AVG socket card, then my guess is that you probably didn't get it seated like Bob suggested. Try that and then reboot your system. I never installed my 9600 on an ME machine. So I may be forgetting something. But it SOUNDS like what you did was right. Though I think I would have just installed the card (without worrying about uninstalling the current/old card) and rebooted the computer and installed the software. They always seem to like to get you to jump through hoops when installing some hardware and it just isn't that complicated really.

Thanks for the help guys! But still, I tried reseating it and it didn`

Yeah my card doesnt have that power wire, so that is out of the way. I tried reseating it like you guys said, still nothing. I did notice that on the monitor connector (the side that connects into the radeon) it is missing two pins! I don`t know if that makes a difference..but regardless it should still AT LEAST detect the card! I downloaded some ME drivers from the ati site and I`ll try that..but untill then keep the suggestions coming! Thanks for all your help!
