okay, i was BIG into MCM2 when it was first released and at the time i had an old gateway with windows 98, a 500mhz processer and maybe a 64mb graphics card, i dont even think it was that big. I could play the game flawlessly, no skipping whatsoever. I dont know if its because of windows xp, i dont think it is, but i cannot play mcm2 anymore with out the gaming skipping like crazy. I currently have a 1.7ghz processor, an nvidia 64mb graphics card. I even tried booting from disc and re-formatting my c drive and reinstalling windows xp with service pack 2, updated all my direct x drivers, and still i can't get it to work. can anyone please help, im dieing to play. thanks alot.

This is a known problem with using XP and faster systems. If you log on to the main forums and search for XP Bug or zoom bug you will find some answers. I think the main thing to do is run Media Player in the background, no need to have it playing anything, just running it seems to stop the twitching.. :)

One other thing that MAY help is to run MCM2 in Compatibility mode for Windows 98 SE. To do this find your MCM2 exe icon and right click on it and choose properties. You'll see 3 tabs...the last of which is Compatibility. You should be able to figure it out from there. It may or may not make a difference. I no longer get the XP bug...but when I did I tried setting it up that way and it proved to be helpful to me.

Good luck!  :)

It's also important to make sure other tasks aren't running.  I used to have a problem in MCM 2.  It would randomly/inconsistently stall.  It would then run flawlessly for a couple of minutes and start acting up again.  What I did was run Task manager in the back ground and when the stalling/stuttering started happening I switched to task manager and looked to see what process was running.  I then killed it.  The taks I was having a problem with was an MS task that collects information about your PC.  I don't remember the name of it.  After I stopped it from loading my problems went away.

well i had some what of a same problem.

what seems to be the problem is that the newer nvida driver doesn't`t do a good job rendering in mcm2 so it skips and laggs so if you load up a track whit very very high detail it will run smooth and when you run track whit little detail it don't level very good.

no matter what nvida card..

this may sound weird but try adjust the detail level down in mcm2 by using F11 button ..

..but i would recommend trying a ati 9500-9800 card to see if it helps because the later ati card seem to use direct-x better than nvida cards..

hope this was of any use

If I remember correctly MCM2 was one of the first series of games that REQUIRED Hardware Acceleration (decent graphics cards). I remember games coming out for a while (until the new technology caught on) with little round stickers on them (green if memory serves) that said just that ("accelerated graphics hardware required" or something like that).

If memory serves when I first ran MCM2 it was on a box system with a Diamond Stealth piggyback video card (you hooked your stock video out to the input and then hooked the output to your monitor). It might have been a 32mb card...but definately no bigger. My point in stating all this is that you can't blame the hardware on your problem (not usually anyway) so I doubt that your best bet is going to be replacing the graphics card...altough that may indeed solve your problem anyway.

I would suggest reading and trying everything suggested thus far and then go to www.nvidia.com and download a few generations of older video card drivers. Try each one...one at a time and see if any of them fixes your problem. It is quite likely that one of them WILL.

I have had your very same problem and that was the ONLY solution that helped in the end. Although I've had issues from time to time (always been with Nvidia cards for some reason) and some of the other suggestions mentioned here DID temporarily fix the problem.

Let us know how it works out for you in the end and tell us what fixed it for you. This will help us to help people better in the future as we've tried with you. Good luck!  ;)

paul what Nvidia card do you have?

I don't have an Nvidia card currently...right now I'm running an ATI9600 XT 128mb. I have no problems with it at all...but for some reason I think I'm going to give Nvidia another run this Xmas and grab a BFG 6800 GTOC 256mb card.

don't they have the 7200OC out yet? i think it's a little better than the BFG....

I have the 6200OC and it runs fine for me on mcm2 and any other thing i want to throw at it

I don't think they do, but I could be wrong. So far as I can tell from searching all the places that I know...the 6800 series is the last AGP bus stuff that they have available. As far as I can tell anything past that is PCI-Express stuff. Glen (VMX_PanicRev for those who don't know) has an ASUS equivelant of the 6800 basic card...and he doesn't have any issues with running MCM2 or anything else. But he DID recently encounter problems which led him to take his card back and go through a 4 month BS ordeal with the retailer to get it replaced. Once he got a new one he found that it TOO had the same problems the other one did. He came to find out that his motherboard was having issues with the AUTO settings. After some research he found out what settings the card needed to have in his BIOS to work properly and since adjusting them he's had no more issues with the card at all.

i didn't know that 6800 was AGP. thought over 6600oc was all PCI
