Nostalgia brings me back once in awhile

Yep, same here.

Hope everyone's doing well. :)

Hey Kip - not sure if you still need a download link for The Killing Field, but here it is.  I can't help ya on Wingman's Land, but I'm sure somebody on MXHQ can.

Oh, and thanks for the kind words on the video.  I'm glad you liked it. :)

I think the cameras need a part of the rider/bike to look at unless it's a static camera. The process as far as i know of placing and directing the camera in each frame is to place it in space somewhere and then point it at something that you want to be in view. This would usually be the torso of the rider. So that is probably why you see a body part in the frame most of the time apart from when the torso is in an extreme position. Not sure if that really helps much you will probably still have to move the origin of the camera, which you already know.

Maybe I'll try contacting the Rainbow guys to see if getting an Untamed-like helmet cam in Unleashed is even do-able (even though everything you said pretty much solidifies the answer as "no"). :-\

I can see the style in your shots, they look very much inspired by photography. There's a high degree of attention to detail and going the extra mile, in terms of animating the rider and setting camera presets specifically to setup realistic poses to create those shots. It seems to have elevated the screenshot into a whole new artform..

Thanks Laurie! :) I'm glad you see it that way.

but either way you take a very nice virtual photo. I love the realism you get out of the shots, like you've taken a photograph and put it through some photoshop 3D-izing filter.. .. and of course can't say enough about the models.

Thanks!  I like to think I have a certain style that comes through on my shots.  That probably sounds ridiculous, but I feel that an eye for art or photography translates equally in any version of reality.

Then again, every shot looks good when you're using a bike & rider model completely unparalleled in terms of quality.  Like you said, can't say enough about them (skins too).

Out of curiosity what happens when try to use that angle and it doesn't work?

Well, that angle is impossible to ride or race with because it generally has an object (i.e. a body part) blocking its view.  The only time I see daylight is for a half-second in the whoops (as seen above) or mid-air (as seen below).

The rest of the time, I'm forced to ride around holding down the button for the "Look Back Cam", which I've since converted into a "Look Forward Cam".

I plan to tinker with that some more one of these days.  But, in the meantime, if you have any thoughts or suggestions on it, I'm all ears.

I always liked MCM Empire's upload/download system, the method in which it was run, and especially their track review system - but MCM2Central.com filled the void quite nicely and was the brainstem of that game for several years.  Speaking of which, here's another old screen grab:

It's kind of a shame that Kamshaft ended up flaking the way he did with MVACentral.com, but that just provided an opportunity for cR to step up with MGF/MXHQ.  It seems that, no matter what, there's always someone willing to help - which is probably the main reason this community still exists 11 years later.

I have a Radeon 3870 and the ENB seems to work, though i did have 1 crash when i first tried it out. I just don't seem to see the different matt/shiny surfaces quite as nicely as they seem to be in thos shots, especially from Showtime maybe i dont run high enough res or need to do something with the AA. One day i might take a look into int it.. :)

Unless I'm wrong about my knowledge of video cards (entirely possible), a quick spec comparison tells me that your gfx card is categorically equal or superior to mine, Laurie...so you should be seeing similar results. :-\ FYI, I've got a 4-year old Radeon X800XL 512mb running @ 1280x1024.

Of course, I have everything set to its highest quality during screenshot sessions - but my problem lately is that Catalyst Control Center friggin lies to me and says that I'm at "optimal quality" across the board, whenever the screenshots I sift through clearly tell a frighteningly different story.  I'm assuming the problem originates with my drivers, but changing them out hasn't fixed the problem one bit.

Anyway, enough of my whining.  Here are some more untouched shots of MVA09 that I took before my vid card began going insane (a TD exclusive!):

And before anyone gets their hopes up, that next-to-last shot was more of a situational fluke.  I can't get that angle to function with any consistency at all.

This is probably a few months too late, but I thought I'd post it anyway:

Dunno why I've kept that screen capture around for so long; I guess it seemed like a momentous occasion at the time.  Anyway, if GreenOgre comes back to read this thread, I just want him to know how much I appreciated MCM Empire and X-Times.  Pleasant memories, for sure.

Also, it's nice to know that guy didn't completely fall off the face of the earth.

P.S. Can anyone remember what the site was called BEFORE Ogre changed the name to "MCM Empire"?  That's been bugging me all morning...

Just trying to narrow down the problem and, so far, this only seems to be occuring on tricks involving bike movement.

P.S. Very funny, you two. ;D
#10
The tricks that I make are perfectly smooth in SikTrix, but when I execute them in MVA they are very choppy and (worst of all) the front forks are separating quite a good distance from the bike, mid-trick (not so good for screenshot taking). This doesn't happen with ALL of my tricks - but it has happened with more than just this one.

Any ideas, Laurie?

I had backed up my modded common.pak before reinstalling MVA, so I went ahead and uploaded it (if you're still interested in looking at it).

Check your PM's for the link. :)

Thanks Tanner, can you tell me what you tried before going for the complete re-install, and maybe what you had modded - probably a long list but it could help me work out what the problem is..

Eg did you have anything installed in the common.pak like custom textures?

Well, I probably should've taken the time to figure out exactly what was causing the model-loading error before reinstalling, but that should tell you how excited I was to start using SikTrix Unleashed. ;)

As far as my common.pak goes, it really wasn't drastically modified.  I'd substituted some bike/rider skins, and altered a few camera angles.  That was about it.  And, actually, I did try swapping it out with the stock common.pak (straight from the MVA CD) - to no avail.

I had the Rainbow Studios' patch installed, as well.  Maybe if I would have reinstalled JUST the original MVA.exe file, perhaps it would've worked?

Just thought I'd mention that I got it working after a fresh install of MVA.

Thanks again, Laurie. :)

Laurie will probably need to know some basic system specs including video card.

Do you have any custom or modified *.paks in the "data" folder?

Actually, I have many custom and modded .paks in the Data folder.  I'll try removing those and see if that fixes the problem.

Laurie might remember I already went through hell with the original Sik Trix.  Hopefully that won't be the case this time. :P

Wooooohooooo!

Thanks, yet again, Laurie.  You're awesome!

EDIT: Actually, I'm getting the same error as Daeko. :-\ Any thoughts?

Thanks, Trev.  And yeah, I thought that part with Missy came out really cool too. :)

I have the same cameras as you, with no zoom features, but I've found that if you work them around while in the air - it will cause some different looking viewpoints like you saw in the video.

Wow!  Thanks a lot, Rocket.

I'll tell ya - it was tough getting some of those shots.  You're more limited in MVA than MCM1 when it comes to getting good angles.

But this was my first attempt at video editing.  I'd love to see what a guy like you could crank out!
