General Discussion / Motocross The Game
October 27, 2024, 11:45:00 AM
Not sure how many people still visit this form, but figured I should post about Motocross The Game here. If you haven't heard there is a new motocross simulation esports game coming out. They currently have a kickstarter to raise money for extra functionality.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/virtualmx/motocross-the-game

A pledge of $49 gets you a game key, which is probably less than the game will sell for, and you don't get charged unless they meet their funding goal.

LCQ Studios will be releasing an "Early Access" version of their game soon.  Go wishlist and follow to stay updated on its progress.

There is a demo. You should check it out. It looks promising but that guy takes forever to actually finish a game.

I'm sure you are all aware, that LCQ Studios is still working on their new motocross game "Chasing The Dream".  They finally have their website back up, and they have a forum for discussion.  They have a development log going so that you can see what they have been working on each day.  Check it out.  I'm sure they would love to see a lot of people sign up for their forum so that they know people are interested in the game.

Whoo-hoo!  Just ran the intro race & WOW!!!!!!   ;D

I think this game is a huge leap forward in the evolutionary process of MX / SX games.

It's NOT a "revolutionary" advancement, but the graphics & animations & many physic aspects are a huge step forward - to me.  YMMV.  ::)

I'm going to play some more & then try the SX TRACK EDITOR !!!!!!!!

Will report back as my experience and opinions evolve...

PS: is there a 1.5 size version of the tiny xbox gamepad for those of us w/ big hands?

I absolutely love the ground physics in this game. If they would fix the gravity and make it a little easier to crash if you case a jump it would be excellent. I had high hopes for MXGP PRO thinking that it would build upon the physics in this game but I believe it was worked on by a different team at the same time, because all of the good aspects of the physics in this game are nonexistent in MXGP PRO.  That said I DO NOT recommend spending any money on that game.

Try out some user created tracks. I think if you search for "bulldog" you will find at least 10 "ok" tracks. ;o).  Search for "arnhem" too and you will find my replica of that 2002 track.

I'll try to catch you online and we can do some racing!

Try this link.

Should be a few skins available from there.

That website has been messed up for a long time.  I cannot log in either and the site obviously has issues sending email because they never come through.

They want $2.99 for EACH bike!
They started selling DLC before the game was even running properly...

A good thing is that all the files are already on your pc so if you know a bit about modding you can easily exchange a stock bike with a DLC one :)
That's good to know, but I don't care that much about official bikes and gear.  It's all about game play for me.

Notice my comment that this game only has one "freeride / compound"?

Well, shoot... Monster Energy Supercross is SELLING their first DLC "compound" for $5 and the Monster Energy CUP track (one track) for $6.  F-that.

There will probably be more 10 more "compounds" for the top 10 riders @ $5 each & IDGAF about these games anymore!
Yep. It is a pure money grab. DLC for cash has ruined a lot of games. Did you look and see how much Nordic wants for each brand name bike for MX vs ATV All Out?   They want $2.99 for EACH bike!  LOL

I'm sad to see that it appears that this new game will still have moon like gravity.  I don't get it, why is the gravity such a hard thing to get right?  I have not seen one MX game where the bike drops from the air to the ground realistically and it really ruins these games.  With all the other physics aspects that they deal with I would think this would be the easiest part to get right.

He\she was the modder behind the MXVAU Ultimate Edition 2011 and some other Physics mods for MXVAU. I need to contact him\her ASAP!
If you know him\her, please let me know!

Thanks in advance :)

I have never heard of the "Ultimate Edition 2011" mod.  Where can I find info on this?

I haven't played any of the MXGP games. But yes, the GP tracks are a lot different than the US tracks.  I also wish they would combine SX and US motocross in one game, but I'm sure there are licensing issues stopping that from happening because everyone seems to want "official" bikes/parts/gear in the game and that has to get expensive.  I'm sure they would have to pay every track owner some kind of fee to put their official track into the game. I also agree that user created motocross tracks are much more interesting than replica motocross tracks.  They are also what keeps these games alive. I'm still amazed how many people that play MES only want to run the stock tracks. I personally enjoy them but I have more fun running the user created tracks.

I'm still really hoping that the LCQ Studios game is good when it comes out.  So far it looks pretty promising.

Also, if you join a lobby with a race already in progress it takes you in and you can switch the camera around and follow the different racers.  But it does not tell you anywhere how much time is left in the current race or anything else.  You just watch people race around with no idea how long you will be waiting, which is annoying.  You will have an idea on the longest you will wait based on the race length that is set for the lobby, but you have no idea where they are in the current race.

I have had a lot of fun racing online playing MES. However there doesn't seem to be a lot of people playing online and most of them do not want to race the user created tracks. They all seem to want to run the default tracks which frankly I'm already sick of.  I have also learned that I am a mid-bottom of the pack racer. But I also try to to race the tracks closely to how they were intended. I have been passed by some really fast guys who were definitely exploiting the physics flaws. Which is fine with me. I still have a blast and usually have a good battle with one or two other slow guys back in the pack.

They really do need to add some settings for the race lobby host. Like being able to create a list of tracks to race. As it is now you have these options when it comes to track selection when creating the lobby:

Allow online tracks?  Yes or No (answering yes will allow the selection of online tracks in addition to the default tracks, but not online tracks exclusively)
Track selection- voting or Random

Random sucks because I hosted a lobby and had two tracks that came up twice each within 6 races. And voting sucks because even as the lobby host you can and will be out voted if you choose an online track in most cases.

They need to have options for online tracks only and the ability for the lobby host to preset a track list. And then they need to allow a description to be typed in so people know what is expected in that lobby. It does show the lobby settings but in my opinion that is not enough. As an example I started a lobby and was not planning on starting the races until at least two other people joined. I had one person join and after less than one minute of not starting the races he left the lobby. Then a couple minutes later another person joined. I still wanted to wait for one more person but after no more than two minutes this guy started swearing at me to start the races and when I didn't start it up he swore at me again and left the lobby. Had the first guy waited another minute I would have had the two people I was waiting for and I would have started it up. Being able to type a description like "3+ before races start" or something would be helpful.  I should mention that I did have a headset on but I didn't think telling this guy why I was waiting would have made any difference so I just kept my mouth shut.
