General Discussion / Merry Christmas!!
December 24, 2009, 10:23:17 AM
Hi everyone!!  Merry Christmas!!

I don't know who is around anymore...I haven't been in a few years now.  My free time dwindled down to where I had to give up gaming.  I still play every once in a while but that's about it.  I definitely miss it and everyone involved.

A couple of years ago I really got involved with vet racing in the OTHG.  In 2008 I raced every event (they call that the "Iron man") and earned the #4 plate.  This year I did it again and got #2 (probably as close as I will ever get to #1).  On top of this I became a board member for the OTHG (statistician) so that keeps me busy as well.  If you want to see some recent photos there's a few of them on my MXsponsor.com profile:

I'm sorry I deserted you guys and abandoned the game.  It wasn't because I didn't love what I was doing, I just had to make a decision between doing the real thing and playing online.  I definitely miss you guys and the fun we had over the years.  Thanks for keeping the site up and running.  I look forward to hearing from you guys.  Shoot me an email whenever you want to chat.

Take care,

Jeff Hamblin

As Bruce said above, I think we need to be realistic about this and not let it get us down.  The PC version of MXA is a port with a few new features added...not a completely revamped game with enhanced environments.  This means the formats/sizes are pretty much the same as they were in the console version.  This being said, it's not surprising that the TD MXU remakes are amazingly similar to the MXU originals.  ;)

...So if you don't expect the sun and the moon you won't be let down if they aren't included.  One thing to consider here is that we (Twisted DIRT) aren't going anywhere and we have experts like Laurie and Bruce on our team!  With those guys, I think just about anything is possible...so we'll just have to wait and see what's needed.  I can envision the D2 editor becoming the U2 editor (DilloToo Editor becoming Unleashed Editor).  It's all too soon to speculate what we will and won't need...but rest assured TD will be ready if need be. :)

Even if they don't offer an expansion pack, I'm willing to bet TD will be able to help bring these tracks to MVA.  ;)  Depending on what we can/can't do with the editor, I'm planning on bringing some old favorites to MVA.

I don't think there is any one solution to the bandwidth problem, but probably a mix of everything mentioned above should be the way to go.  I can understand how those that aren't working or on a tight budget (or just cheap! :) ) won't want to fork out any cash.  There should be a solution for them, even if it means slower downloads or somewhat flakey links.  For the guys that have a few bucks to spare, maybe "membership" sites are an option to have really fast downloads.

As mentioned above, I think all track creators that can afford it should consider some kind of web space for their own stuff.  There's no better way to assure that your creations will stay around unless you make the effort to put them up on the web yourself.  I know I'm spending about $200 bucks a year supporting two sites that do nothing but provide free tracks and utilities to the community.  I'm sure this is way cheap in comparison to what Scott (X_xracer) pays for TD.  He's been paying it for years now with almost no monitary support and never complains.  After a while it's just something you do without even thinking about it.  Unfortunately not everyone out there realizes this and appreciates that what it takes for them to "get it for free".

I don't think I'll be going for the torrent thing but that's not to say that it won't work for others.  I think we should keep a lot of options open so people can pick and choose what's comfortable for them.

How do you do this?  I always use Preset4 which uses a button for the gas.  Is this an XBox thing because I only have the game on PS2?  It almost sounds like you've setup the other analog joystick as a throttle. ?

Great news!  I'm sure we'll all love creating tracks for the game as well as converting over some old favs...can't wait! :)

General Discussion MCM 2 / Re: mcm2 wont launch

I had this problem with my new system (XP SP2) right after installation.  Go get the "no cd" version of the MCM2.exe and you should get past the .ICD problem.  You still need the Indeo codec though.

Sorry it's been like forever.  We've all been really busy with our jobs and lives and stuff.  Anyways go to the main page for the links:

General Discussion MCM 2 / Re: APM Problem
May 07, 2005, 08:02:40 PM
I have no idea what is causing that.  To be honest, I can barely even read the picture because it is getting resized by the forum limits(i think).

Ya know, APM is way behind the times in processing textures.  There's been a lot of new developments in this area and APM does not support them.  I would suggest that you just use APM to process your project but NOT process your textures.  You can uncheck the checkbox in the upper right hand corner for this.  Once you process your project you should be able to finish it off in DilloToo.  DilloToo has a very up to date texture processor so I would imagine it would work without a hitch.

Thanks.  I think I know what you guys mean.  Yes they are converted so they're about as close as we can get, but sometimes they often ride nice as well.  A lot of times you can jump everything in sight, which is kind of a bummer, but then on other tracks they actually ride close to how they do in MXU.

There are 24 sx and 22 nats.  I'm going to try and finish up the sx tracks since there pretty straight forward and don't have complex animations.

I think I mentioned this in another thread (somewhere) but the nats have been on hold due to Fixer's computer crashing.  He and Laurie are handling the animation conversions which have been pretty time consuming.  Fixer is just about finished with his new system and is starting to get going again.  Laurie is helping out with the nats too.  When I finish off the sx I will focus my attention on the nats.  It kind of makes sense since were in the middle of the sx season.  Hopefully it won't be too long before you guys see some nats again.

Track Creators / Re: MXU objects

This has been discussed a couple of times before.  I'm just going to post links to the threads rather than retyping it.

Currently we are still working on the MXU tracks, and probably will be for a while...

I guess that's because you're using some "POS" objects.  ;)  :D  lol!

No, what it usually means is that the spelling is off somewhere with the object(s) you are using.  Remember that that you need the object name and file name to match each other.  Also, make sure there are no dashes "-" in the name as these get translated into the minus sign operator.  Use underscores instead.

Take a look at the names in the Max file it is crapping out on.  If you still need help let me know (usually email is best).

The RC / MC look and wave was just AWESOME!
The helmet cam on RC is so cool - and the "MC look" shot was outstanding!

You mean this one:

The only thing they need to do is add some type of tear off system or a rotating plastic strip that can be activated by the camera guy to get the mud off. :)

Awesome race BTW.  I had my Dad record it on DVD.

Hey guys,

Sorry for the long delay.  Real life has a way of filling up your free time. lol! :)

For those that don't read the TD main page: http://www.twisteddirt.com  I put out another SX track.  You should read the note I put on the main page just below the track pic.  I won't repeat it here since I think it's pretty much self explanitory.

Have fun with it! :)

Track Creators / Re: Lookin For A TD Object
February 13, 2005, 05:55:42 PM
Looks like somebody locked this thread...good idea.

I'd like to say that TD is not really into policing these threads.  You guys do what you think is right....but come on guys, sometimes this stuff just gets rediculous.  Ya know maybe the next time you're pissed and want to lash out at someone, try taking it offline and send an email or PM instead.  Maybe you can work it out there before a thread goes off on a tangent of unrelated posts.

You should show us a pic of the object.  We may be able to locate it then.

General Discussion / Re: views in mcm2?
February 12, 2005, 04:27:43 PM
I'm sorry but I doubt that will ever happen.  There's only so many things we can do and usually it's just altering the files that MCM2 loads at runtime.  We've come to know the format of the files so it's not too hard to make new ones...but altering the way the game looks, feels, or plays is a totally different story.  Sorry.
