General Discussion MCM 2 / Re: New graphics card help

linky for VLC that MM mentioned..

VIDEOLAN

It does sound like a codec problem with media player that you have mentioned,, VLC should run it flawless is totally free no registration no nag screens etc,,, if VLC plays it 100% then we can maybe help you find the codec for WMP that you are missing so you can have a choice :)

i Would more say that amazon as well as many other online retailers.. make MISTAKES on releases dates ,for one and one reason only.to get your monies early on pre release. but there a buisness so cant blame them really..

Just hope the demo is good, and that it pleases all.i myself will stay level headed and wait for a demo before i get to excited,as has been said elseware this game is more or less a port from the console.with a few added extras (of course the editor is a big added extra). but no matter how good the editor may be,if the gameplay isnt that great it doesnt matter what stunning tracks can be made.

If it costs money to download I WONT use the service
Thanks.

Well noone is saying you have to,all the posts here are for suggestions to help with a possible bandwidth issue (that does cost money) so the entire thread is showing what people are prepared to donate a few bucks to help (if its needed) .

Please dont forget that even Factory and TTM have and did have donations links im guessing you didnt and WILL not donate to those sites either and again that is your choice, but some people here realise that there is no such thing as a free lunch and if your enjoy using something here and there its no hardship to donate something.

Basically its like pay for view TV you dont pay you dont watch simple as that, but as has been said much earlier and a few more times in this thread that maybe a site would be free for all, but with much slower download speeds but with the option of a donations/member link for say FTP access to a faster pipe.

Also as Twisted mentioned he has his tracks on his own ISP service for ppl to d/l if needed, and as far as i can recall most TEAM sites always tryed to host there own creations. which of course is another good idea.

hehe funny we aint even seen the game yet just  a few screens and we are all on about bandwidth issues, but i can understand why..

1) Would be nice to know if MCMFACTORY is gonna support this

2_same goes for MDX RACING

3) One thing i would suggest is that all the hosting sites, make sure that only REGISTERED users can d/l tracks, but in addition to that no freeweb mail is allowed to regsiter with, ie ya hotmails yahoo gmail etc. Must be your ISP email.. This does cut down on the ppl regsitering with like 38 names etc etc..

4) sometimes a review system where ppl can actually type there review be it 50 words or less . is sometimes a downfall as you do get the how can i say ummm less favorable reviews, even when it hasnt been ridden, justa  simple points score  is sometimes better,of course that is also open to abuse , but it does save the bad mouthing etc.

5) you could make a site like most of the larger demo sites with a subscription for fast instant access d/l... and then a public mirror with only so many slots and on a much slower pipe. the slower pipe of course could only transfer X amount of data per day .at least the the costs are controlled, and the faster instant access should be covered by the subscriptions.

in addition to the above we also dont know who else ie new ppl may arrive just like we all did years ago and want to become a hosting site.

Everyone was a noob once. because someone is new it doesnt mean they are fools. The more the older more expericed people help the newer players the better they become and the community becomes stronger and bigger and silly racial abuse like above is just not wanted or needed.

Tis great news all round on this subject and is great to see a number of the older players from mcm posting here.

The Bitorrent idea for sharing of tracks is a good idea also.

Lets just hope the next few months flyby and we do get a demo of somekind before the release date.

Also it does seem with a lot of newer games now that the online play is within the game itself ie own chat server as we have all said gamespy is not the best thing since sliced bread far from it..Hopefully this will be the same.

really great news. Just hope the track editor is a real one not just a point and click effort but is great news all round

i so agree,  im really excited about this and if its a point and place editer im gunna be sooooo sad.  with 6 od years since the release of mcm2 editer im expecting something way state of the art and not a step backwards.  but lets just wait and see. :-\

Ian.

I think everyone will like the editor. It has been made for beginners as well as advanced users like yourselves. A track can be made entirely in the editor, it can start in something like photoshop for displacements and textures, or a combination of the both. I really can't say much more than that at the moment.

beginners and advanced so is hard to say what level the editor will be with that comment. but totally understandable that not to much can be said so far

The lack of activity make me wonder how much effort we should put forth in keep coming up with modifications/packages.

For example it would be possible to create a package so that all the bikes were replaced with ATV's, snowmobiles, trucks, buggies, etc.  These packages take time, because you would want some variety in the models and they would all need skins.

The package does sound great far beyond anything we would of all believed possible way back when as has been said the was a lot more activity. and i for one would like to thank you for the continued effort and time everyone has put in.

As for the lack of activity I'm not 100% sure how true that may be. of course there isn't as many playing as there once was but that would be totally ridiculous to exceptthat, but I'mu sure there are a lot and i mean a lot of the older riders who still have this game sitting on there HDD and have a blast round a track when its realeased by a creator that they enjoy ,sure they may not use startgate they may not use the zone or TTM but they are still around.and the reason there round is just as Dirttwister has stated there is no other MX game that has come close to MCM2.

Of course we all hold out hope for a new version at some point but until that day the people here and the people on the zone TTM etc etc are very much diehard fans and any extra addition that would make the game more enjoyable more entertaining more a LEVEL playground can only be a good thing..

Quite recently i was pouring though the website  http://www.archive.org/web/web.php and after a few searches i came across the old XRacingsite with details of the 250cc round robin tourney and it was like a blast from the past reading the race reports etc. i sat there and thought dang that was so much fun back then wish the game was as popular now..So i headed off to the zone to run a  few laps sure it was quite but not dead after a short while im I'm in a race with 8 guys all happy to wait for a few of the newer guys to grab a track they didn't have etc etc,, after some 10 races or so i has to leave but i left with a big smile on my face and thought back to the xracingite and thought maybe there isn't as many of us but dangggg its one heck of a game ...

just in case you do want to have a nostalgia feel .. http://web.archive.org/web/20020808074054/www.xracing.com/roundrobin/roundrobin22.html

It really is a shame but as Twisted states its all about the big $$$ but of course THQ is a business and business needs to make money etc etc..

The main problem being is that a mx game that we all would like with the opportunity to edit/make/create maps/tracks etc to a game publisher isn't the appealing, due to the simple fact look at all now playing a 5+ year old game. The people at THQ marketing or whatever publisher those kinda stats scare them as its ONE sale of a game lets say $40.00 per person and that suits there gaming needs for 5 years,, sure they would sell a large amount of units in the first place but then we woundt want to buy any other games for 5 years etc etc.  Of course this statement is just hypothetical :)

But if you look way back even to arcade style machines, the galagas, space invaders, defender etc those games if you was good enough went on forever as there wasn't an ending, Now days most games you start with the slowest/smallest man/bike/weapon etc and the main goal is to get the biggest/fastest/etc etc,,then the game is over.

which in a $$$ situation is great for the publishers as once you get to the goal , your off to the shops again to buy another game.. its the same with the cheats etc for 99.5% of all console games 1 day after realease there are cheats all over the net, who places them there? well the game publishers of course as they want mr x to do the cheat finish the game in 2 days flat and then go out an buy another.

i sure hope that 2xl do make something for the pc with mx in mind only time will tell i guess..
