Hey gary!! dude , it's so good to hear from you! I was hoping i would run into you again some day. i figured the MCM2 game would lure most of us out of the cave at sometime. I'm like you , i hadn't played in about 4 years or so. I then lost a hard drive on my computer , and lost a huge amount of my favorite tracks. I have been on a mission this past week or so , and have found , and am still finding a ton of all my old favorites....That's includes a few of your man! You got really , really good at making tracks Gary!
Well......long story , put shortly. I was riding and racing pretty hard core all the way up until 2-1/2 years ago. I had a pretty bad wreck with another rider , and spent almost two weeks in the hospital with punctured lungs , and about 30 broken bones. I did ride again after that ( even before the doctor released me) but it messed up my head a little to....mentally anyways. When i got back on the track , i was a little gun shy , and always wanted to know where everyone was at.
The wreck i had , wasn't really my fault. I was running a really big indoor arena cross track for about 3-1/2 years , called "hindsight MX" , for the same guys i worked for , for years in construction. I helped build the building , and brought in all the dirt , and made all the tracks. I trained kids and adults the sport of MX , and even had a ton of kids i trained i n private lessons at the track.
back to the wreck : a guy i knew from idaho which turned pro a few years before i met him , came over to ride. he had been telling me how fast he had gotten since the last time we raced together at washougal. He had been talking a bunch of smack , so i invited him up to a special Hindsight MX night. I built the track pretty knarly , with some big 70' triples and so forth. well...he showed up , nervous as hell , and wasn't talking smack any more HAHA!!
he watched me practice for about an hour before he decided to come out. And when he did the dumb s.o.b. went backwards down the start strait , and we hit HEAD ON! We we're both 2nd gear pinned. It was i a weird part of the track that you couldn't see each other coming from either direction. I had just cleard the big triple in the middle , landed with the gas ON hard , and took this big sweeper corner out wide ( the first turn going the other way) and he had been coming down the start strait backwards completely pinned. There we're people chasing after him , to get him to stop , but he said he couldn't hear them.
i did over $2500.00 worth of damage to my 450 ( which the track owned but let me ride and race it). Bent the front forks , smashed the front wheel to almost flat , and pushed the radiators clean through the 6" gap on the spar frame.
damn it...i even lost about 1" off my left middle finger HAHA!!
BUT.....good news is , i just got done riding a buddies 08' YZF 450 for 3 weeks. I am out of riding shape , but by the end of the 3 weeks , i don't feel like i lost any speed , just my endurance , and i don't really feel gun shy at all! i fell really good! So.....i think i may get another 450 this spring. maybe going back to the kaws , and looking at the new KXF450.
hey....one more thing though. since i took all that time off from MX , i found a new hobby that really , really enjoy! It's a friggin blast , and i'm gettin' pretty good at it....RC airplanes! i know , i know , sounds kind of gay , but listen. I have some airplanes from 89" wingspan , up to 123" wingspan. 50cc to 170cc motors using 32" props on the front. I'm into the 3D type flying and whip the crap out of an airplane. It's the only hobby i have ever done that takes my mind away from racing. If you ever want to check a site out that has everything to know about big RC aircraft , check this site out >>>> http://www.flyinggiants.com/ . I practically live there!
Anyways gary..... hey , if you ever want to shoot the sh!t , my email is huber7740@comcast.net. Shoot me an email , and i'll send you some pics of my big birds i'm working on. i have some good indoor racing/practice pics on my 450 as well at Hindsight MX.
Good hearing from you Bro!
