ok so you weren't expecing lightning performance - encore does a little more under the hood than Reflex so slightly less performance shouldn't be a complete surprise. But it probably could be better than it is, but that goes for Reflex too - they both seem to suffer from CPU and GPU usage both way less than 100% which seems to point to inefficient code.

+1 on the recycling..  :)

What happens if you delete all the MXTables_8DLC files from the database folder? Can you then select Freeride National or Sx without it crashing?
#4
I don't know what bbburton did to fix his, but i would say for the beta slots you need to add the MXTables_DLC008.zip (notice there is no 'a' at the end) as well as the MXTables_DLC008a.zip. The first ine adds the FreeRide beta slots and the 'a' file is an extension to add the Sx and Nationals that uses some of the files in the FreeRide slots zip.

For the SaveGame to not get overwritten you might need to check the Steam cloud settings for Reflex. You need to have the save to cloud option turned off, otherwise your savegame will be replaced by the file stored in the Steam cloud. Shut down the game, un-check the option to save to the cloud, then copy the 15 million SaveGame and restart the game and it should be ok after that.

Hey Pete

Not sure what the sale price was but i still think it's worth the money, though if you can't run it at a reasonable fps then that'll suck the fun out of it. What are the differences in spec between your work and home PCs.

Factory still seems to be working for me..

The release button was supposed to be used for publishing final tracks that would appear in the track lists just like the stock tracks, the export for beta compiles them to appear in one of the beta slots. It turned out to be a bigger problem to publish tracks than i imagined so that has never been implemented, so like DS19 says it is useless right now and probably always will be.

Just export it as beta and select the beta slot [1..8] on the Scene tab..

If you have the steam cloud enabled it will back up your savegame to the cloud and overwrite any changes that you make with your old savegame from the cloud. You will need to disable syncing your data to cloud in steam, then change the savegame.

Hi Gents

Sorry for the slow reply, but i am moving house for the 2nd time in 4 months so time is a bit short. Unfortunately i haven't touched DE in a long while and probably won't have much time to do so for couple more months, but everything is possible. If it doesn't give too much away on you're latest project, i would be interested to hear more of what you've tried to do and maybe some screenshots of the results. If i remember rightly Jamie was pushing for the colorreferencemap a long while back, was it something that the compiler did, but didn't make it into DE for some reason. Anyway, yes it is of course possible, this is computers so everything is possible, but it won't arrive in the next few weeks..

Whether it will deliver realistic lighting i guess we'll have to wait and see.. :)

cheers

..thinking about it the biggest obstruction to Reflex -> Encore would be the MXTables so it won't work out of the box - so scrub that...  :)
#11
Encores tracks aren't backwards compatible, but has anyone tried putting Reflex tracks into Encore?
#12
Yeah i have noticed that blotchiness, 1st i saw it on the guy in the doghoue at the start and thought it was a tattoo, but soon became obvious it was a gfx glitch. The dirt textures look fine for me - at least the last time i ran the game they did.
#13
I'm interested to hear more about the differences you see in the graphics, where do you think they are lacking in Encore compared to Reflex?
#14
It is normally installed as part of DX9.0c which is what you usually need to run Reflex. You can try downloading and installing DirectX9.0c from Microsoft. Or try this post:

You probably want to pm Bruce (DirtTwister), he wrote the tool and can help you the best find out what's wrong.

Bike and Rider Skinning / Re: Skin disapears

Did you un-equip the rider of your skin before you changed it? It might be the savegame file holding on to incorrect information because you changed a skin that the rider was still using. If that is the problem then to get round that you would need to reset your savegame file -- that means delete it or replace it with JamieT's 15 million credit savegame.

You'll need to pm JamieT to find out what's wrong..

The way DE draws splines isn't something Vista or above likes very much, to get round that problem you need to set 'Disable desktop composition' in the DE shortcut properties under the 'Compatibility' tab. Have you tried that?

I'm really not sure what the problem is here since like i said before all that happens after the last log entry is data in memory is dumped to file. I still feel it has something to do with permissions, i can add some more log comments after each file to see which file is causing the problem.
