Trev old friend, it's a console game - made for consoles, it can't handle tons of objects or any fps over 30. It's a quick money grab for THQ and they could give a hoot what we have to say about it.

I in no way blame Rainbow or anyone else - it's TH-$$$$$$$$-Q, they got what they wanted - a few more bucks and they're laugjing all the way to their financial institutions.

Robb Rinard & friends saw what was going on and had to form a new company 2XL. We have one guy at Rainbow that is willing to help to fix this nightmare on his own time - it's got to be embarassing for one of the best gaming groups to be forced to release a pile of ....... It'll work for now but I think MVA will end up in the trash as a bad memory. We won't be fooled again!

Maybe 2XL will give us what we wanted - a real PC MX game that will kick butt.

General Discussion MVA / The Patch is out.

The MVA patch is ready for DL.

here's a link

If you've modified your common.pak file it won't install and you'll have to re-install the game.

I have the same card as you do Randall (Geforce 6600 256mg AGP with a gig of ram & 3.3ghz P4) and I get the same cracks/tears in the terrain. I tried some of the suggestions in this thread - like getting the Nvidia Hardpage Tweaker.

I made some changes with the tweaker, went into MVA, ran a national and the tears/cracks were gone. But, like a dummy I guess, I tweaked some other settings and the tears/cracks came back. I've tried to make them go away again with no luck so far - maybe it was a fluke or there is some setting that fixes the problem.

If I do get it fixed again I'll post how to do it.

I could be wrong but this sounds like a guy who was at MCM2 Central about a year ago talking the same cofusing banter. It was amusing for a while but we did have to ban him. Can't remember the name though.

Let's see what he comes up with next - if it is the same guy.

The host is www.hostonce.com (Australia). For $59.00 per year I get unlimited space & bandwidth along with a bunch of other "unlimited" perks. Mauiucool.org is about 1.3gigs.

These guys absolutely sucked when I first signed up, but after about a year they bought new servers in other country's (like the USA) and everything was running smooth for a couple years, The last 2 years haven't been so smooth.

In the post above, I said I had to "asked if they could send me the correct URL to the Control Panel" - with a more detailed descryption of the problem & how to fix it. The did send me the URL and it worked. I'm working on the site now getting it back together - the Tutorials & Downloads are working. This was their reply:

"Your HostOnce.com help desk problem has been closed.  You can view the
solution below or at: support.hostonce.com/user/view.asp?id=87357

Thank you for the updates regarding your sites.
I have made a note of your commetns for future reference."

Another update:

I couldn't fix what was left of the site so I wiped out the database - deleted everything but the site is still there like I never deleted anything??!!??

I've had this problem before with other hosts. They update or just do maintainence and somehow the URL to my Control Panel is different than what they are using to access it. They say my site's name is "Site219" but the server logs I downloaded say the site is still named "Site144".

I sent an email to them & asked if they could send me the correct URL to the Control Panel. I'm still waiting for a reply.

Bruce, do you have any idea why this happens or how to fix it?

OK, for now the Downloads are working but I get an "Access Denied" page when I try to write some news for the front page. The News section that was on the front page is just plain missing, so I put the Downloads in it's place for now but I don't think it's gonna last long.

The "Content" module that had all the tutorials in it is missing too - I hope I can find the info in the DB backups I have or a total re-install of the site is coming.

Just wanted to let you know I'm working on it now and will be this weekend.

I finally had a day off and I've been restoring parts of the DB most of the day. The downloads are there but don't work and the links are ok but the tuts, forum, shout box, polls etc, etc are all junk. The center News section is missing and the site won't recognized my user & pass to get into the Admin section. I checked the DB on the site and it has the same info I'm using but it still won't let me in.

I think there is only one alternative -- re-install the entire site AGAIN!?!? It's at least 3 days of work initially and about a week more of tweaking. The structure of the site is corrupted along with the DB and all they can say is they're sorry - for the 5th time. What's weird is that the baseball card subdomain site & DB still works fine through all of this stuff and it's all PHP and MySQL too and running off the same DB.

PHPNuke is getting better but it can still go down in a hurry. Maybe I'll look into another type of CMS but I have to find the time, of which I don't have much of these days. I'm gonna give it another week if I can stand it, then I'll re-install or try something new. I just paid for another year too.

Thanks for the suggestion Bruce but I think it's beyond a db fix. I noticed that some of the backups I have aren't complete and have a "Timed out" message at the end.

Well, I finally wrote my host a nasty email and they finally responded with trying to restore the DB with a copy they had - which is what you'll see if you go there now. They sent me an email asking if I had a better, more complete DB to restore and I did, except it's 37 megs, lol. They only allow 2 meg chucks to be uploaded at a time.

I had to explain to them that the site was running fine until they screwed with the server and they are the ones that should get it back online so they are trying. Otherwise, I will need more permissions than they allow at this time to restorethe DB myself. Bottomline is I'm paralized with the permissions they're giving me and can't take care of the business required.

Anyway, we're at their mercy until they come through - hang in there, maybe they will. The only other solution is to start all over again from scratch, which is about 2 days of work which I will do - if that's what it takes and I have the time.

Jack was one of the good guys. He gave us his "Track Test Website" so people could build & upload their tracks and get them tested during all stages of construction until finished.

Back in late 2000, I used his track testing site to remake Awesome Possum and create Desert Scream. In Desert Scream, on the side of the startline stadium on the right, I made an advertisement for his site - check the pic below.

I know I won't ever forget him and his contributions to the MCM2 community.

I think this problem came up a while back and all you had to do to fix it was uncheck "Smooth edges of screen fonts".

Right click on "My Computer", click "Properties", click the "Advanced" tab, then "Settings", uncheck "Smooth edges of screen fonts" and click "Apply".

My hosts screwed with the server and haven't figured out how to fix it yet. They tell me my site is "site219" when the server logs say it's "site144" - meanwhile, we get nothing ........ hang in there, I might just have to start all over -- again.

Nice rig Dodgy. I know how ya feel, getting a state-of-the-art system like that. I built a new system about 4 months ago from scratch and turned my old Dell XPS-T 700mhz into a Linux (Fedora) server.

New rig:

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz 800MHz/FSB 1024kb L2 Cache Prescott running @ 3.3GHz - 37*C idle - 51*C max (it's hot over here too)
CPU Fan: Ultra Copper Cooling Fan Skt 478 upto P4 3.4ghz
Power: DiabloTek 550W ATX Power Supply
Video Card: Nvidia GeForce 6600 256MB DDR/SDRAM 400MHz AGP 8X
Hardrives: Maxtor 80GB IDE/ATA 7200RPM and Maxtor 300GB IDE/SATA 7200RPM
Memory: 1x Ultra DDR 1024MB PC3200 400MHz - 4g Max
Main Board: ASUS P4P800-X - Socket 478 - Intel 865P Chipset
DVD Burner: Sony 16x8x16x Double Layer DVD±RW/CD RW Writer
CD/RW: Plextor 40x12x40A CD Writer
Sound Card: Sound Blaster 5.1
Capture card: CTX MD001 analog Video device
Case: Red Janus Open Side (screen) with Blue (outside) & Red (inside) LEDs - 3 case fans

At first I didn't notice that much of a difference until I got into a few high powered projects and the difference was obvious. Kill V-sync and you got all the FPS you'll ever need, lol. Games (when I can play em) all run flawlessly to say the least - I haven't seen a blink or any kind of hesitation since I've been using it. Total price was $1480.00 building it myself - it ain't that hard folks.

You gotta great rig there man, have fun with it cause there isn't a game you can't play - [for a year anyway - maybe, hehe].

Looks cool at night and sometimes it's a little bright but it's a good night-lite.
