Ok so i get my track all set up in max, and when i add the bitmap to the material editor and apply it to the disp map in max, and then i go render it, it only renders in grayscale?! why is that plz help lol.

maybe hit the checker flag box thingy to show the map.
in material editor, i open maps, opacity, then add the bitmap. am i doing this wrong? it shows up in the all 4 views and wat not but when i do a quick render it renders in grayscale. my question is how do i make the bitmap show up in color via the render?
click on your object.. then push the key M
then you clik on the little gray button next to the diffuse color and get you texture..
then you will se a checkerd blue/white box when you move you mouse over it it says (show map in viewport) click that.
then click another little icon that has a blue ball/white square that says (assign material to selection) when you move the mouse over it..

It sounds to me like u haven’t applied a UVW Map to your disp map?
It will render Gray if u haven’t
