Title: Q: [Object Compiling]
Post by: 51 on February 26, 2005, 02:48:20 PM
I have been curious about this for a while but maybe never asked so here it goes. This is mainly directed at the TD crew object makers. (ie. Extreme, Fixer, etc.)

Is there any way possible to "embed" textures into an object to protect it? Basically I want to make some objects but I don't really want people to use the texturemaps off my objects if I was to release them. Like the only way to get the tex off it would be to somehow be able to decode it or whatever. And I guess if you're so inclined to use someones texture maps I'm sure you can figure out how. I just see alot of my textures floating around on different things (bales, stadiums, etc.) and that's cool and everything I don't mind contributing, but certain tex were made for certain objects not other things. People make a rectangle in max and put someone else's texture on it and call it "custom objects". If you're gonna use someones stuff use the whole thing...I dunno. So if anyone has any info on how I can "embed" the textures into my objects that would be awesome. Otherwise I don't think I want to release any objects.

Hey man, I dunno the answer to your question, but if you don't like it that I used your skin for the stadium on my last track, Im sorry.  I remember Myth using it awhile back and you said that it was cool, but I may be wrong.  Sorry if I accidently became a ripper.  :(

Give credit then Sky! :P I think his aiming to those fools over at mcmfactory tho..

Well I don't think it's possible... meybe with D2 but you can't intergrate the textures into the SLT, but meybe TD can make some new file wich has the SLT and TGA in it and can only be loaded into D2...

I could do something like cR said with D2 but there is no 'stock' way for you to combine the SLT and the textures into a single packet that Dillo will recognize. I have considered doing this a few times before but it didn't seem something many people wanted and i didn't want to push people into having to use D2.

It might be me but I think D2 is becoming a standard tool for track creators now... :)

why do you want to do that anyway.. i let the users of my object have the freedome to change the color of the objects i make.

and if you are so affraid that some one will use your texture why uppload it..

i agree sort of .. but if i make like a ramp whit red frame and a metal miracle logo then. i want the public be able to put a skin or a freeride tech logo and change the color of theire choice. thats what i think have keept the game alive.

just like the bike template i make for the public to use as a base just like objetcs are a base.

nah i wasnt pinpointing anyone here its just something i wanted to do for along time and wondered if it was attainable. so don't worry bout that. at least you guys kept the skin in tact. ive seen pieces of it pulled and that's kindof irritating. im honestly more interested in seeing someone be creative rather than just use someone elses skin.

yeah that's not what i'm talking about. reskinning stuff is cool it's adding onto, using the same skin for another object is spreading it thin...

I'm wondering why we can't dl / find more objects.
Some of us are good in track making, some are good in custom objects making, the same about skys, skins, ... we have some good programers (I think also TD guys  :-* lol) and if all the community will share his work, that will be awesome. I heart often the word "ripper"  :(. If you dont want to see your creations ripped, don't upload it, it's normal but mature people want to see more stuffs uploaded. I see often new objects or skys never uploaded on any server. TD guys make an awesome work for us and share it, why the rest of us doesn't make the same ? These are my 2 cents.
Have fun.
Phil  ;)
