Kam finally decided to shut down Central for good. Gone is a ton of history of MCM2 that most will never forget..snif, snif...
A lot of you may not have known the glory days of the site, back around 1999 to 2001. It truly used to rock.....
Thanks Kam and the crew for all the effort you made for the MCM community.
TNT_wfo
thats a bummer. I wish we had some heads up so we could grab some stuff for free. And I just downloaded a track from there 3 days ago.
Thanks Kam for all you've done.
Heres a good place to get some oldie tracks.. 3000+ track http://mdxracing.net/main.php
I grabbed all the SX and pretty close to all the National tracks that were on there. I don't know what I'll do with them though.
Bruce
Dammit I had plans for donwloading all of them and burning on dvds...
So if you want to Bruce your welcome to send them to me ;D I have an ftp server, although I can recive at about 800kb/s I can only upload at 80kb/s.
Actually I just checked and I'm still downloading.
Bruce
oh well. well every single track ive ever made except 1 is now off the record, they were either on MCM or Zone Racing(were the good ones were)... :'( i guess i should have maybe kept the ENV files atleast. lol

From their ftp?? I tried to connect to it but it didn't resolve a host.
Still copying now. It keeps stopping because some of the file names have ":" in them. I'm assuming he didn't renew the name. The server is still up at the old address. The name isn't resolving, but my server still resolves it.

Hes right you know... Besides I dont think shipping to sweden is very cheap ;)
Btw, Bruce could you tell me the ip to the server? Since the name isn't connected to it anymore.
I can't from where I'm at right now. My server is still going after it by name. I'll poke around tonight.
Bruce
Thanks
I was talking to Kam tonight and he is making the tracks available by DVD for anyone that wants them. He had the server open for quite a while and it's getting shut down really soon, so I'm not going to publish the IP address. The server is being shutdown because of the bandwidth it is consuming.
Sorry,
Bruce
I thought I'd post and tell you guys my thoughts.
Bruce is right, this thing was costing me tons of loot to keep up, although I never charged a cent in the past for anything, this is way to keep the tracks alive, by selling the DVDs.
I did not delete anything, I still have every single thing backed up. Database, tracks, skins, all of it. (-: It's been 5 years, and running it by myself since 2002 (since the game sort of died), MXDirt and Spawn do not play the game and want nothing to do with it anymore.
I just felt obligated to keep it alive, but I was averaging near 200GB of downloads a month! And making no money to pay for the bandwidth.
You guys are more than welcome to buy the DVD-Rs and do what you wish with them. Because only a few tracks were mine. (-:
And, if Rainbow Studios decides to make a PC version of MX vs. ATV Unleashed with a track creator, I'll be there with bells on, making tracks again! That was the fun part of MCM2 and MCM1. I'm still amazed that the community is still strong after five years! I can't understand why Rainbow Studios and THQ don't see this as a money making thing. Oh well.....I suppose Microsoft never did either!
Well guy keep in touch, I'm around, not leaving, and I'll be buying the next PC title from Rainbow and making tracks for sure! If you need to reach me, I'm at XboxAddict.com
Kam,
You have done so much for this community over the years. Thanks for MCM2 Central and all the great trakcs that have been uploaded there. That place has sentimental value to a lot of us die hard MCM'ers. Hope that a new game comes from rainbow and we see ya back here with some new tracks. :)
It does hold a special place in my heart also! Let's all hope THQ releases a new MX game for the PC!
What would be cool is if we could get every member of the MCM community to give $100 to TD for research and development and make MCM2 the game we have all dreamed of. MCM with more realistic physics, etc, etc.
It's not that far fetched that we could end up with our own vehicle simulator. Especially if the game designers leave us poor PC game players behind.
Bruce
if it happens, you'll get $100 from me ;D
Im serious.
me to :)
Bruce you're getting me excited. lol ;D
It think it would be "UnWheel".
For Christmas I got the book "Mastering UnReal Technology" and the game UnReal Tournament 2004 Editor's Choice. I've been looking around at the "UnWheel" mod. The UnReal engine let's you use dispmaps for terrain.
I don't know how viable it is but it is one of my pet projects for the next couple of months to scope out what the possibilities are.
Bruce
if any other genius' can help heres some stuff about the unwheel mod
http://unwheel.beyondunreal.com/
Hell,I would throw in $500 myself!!!! 8)
this engine uses bump map rendering http://www.devmaster.net/engines/engine_details.php?id=3
So whats that do metal? If that for desiging you own game?
I've had that engine for about a year. When I was first messing with it the engine didn't support the size dispmap that i would like. If I remember correctly it was only doing about a 256x256 that repeated. I looked into extending it and didn't really have the time to mess with it. Some others were working on it and I hoped that they would get some where. I haven't looked at it for a bit. I should check out what updates have been done. It is the game engine that Tribes 1 & 2 was written in.

Instead of sending money if something like this was made I'd put down my heart, soul, wallet and potential to give the game a worthy central instead, unless kam did so or something ofcourse. If so then I'd just donate for the development like everyone else instead. ^_^
Even though the shutdown of mcm2 central feels like a big push in the wrong direction, mcm2 will never die for me, atleast not untill something better comes along the road.
So let me get this straight Bruce, you are working to make MX Tracks with this UnWheel game engine? As you can tell, I'm still under my rock keeping out of trouble. :P
-Moto
I'm exploring the UnReal game engine to make racing games of all kinds that includes MX. I also have the Torque game engine and at this time it's 3D terrain capabilities are less than ideal.
I've yet to mess with the UnReal game engine except to try UnWheel. The first step is to put some of my tracks into it and see what I can do with the vehicles.
With what Twisted DIRT has done so far with MCM 2 we are missing the following pieces from being able to do our own game. Real time 3D Terrain rendering, Network, and physics. Two of the three MCM 2 does and the third we don't like how MCM 2 does it. A lot of the network play is handled by Microsoft's Direct Play but it doesn't get you all the way there.
Those three things require a lot of work to do properly and we don't really have the time to do them. The longer it takes someone to come out with a new game that does what we want the close we will be to doing it ourselves.
I loaded up one of my tracks into the Torque game engine and decided that it's built-in 3D terrain capability isn't sufficient to pursue furtherr. I'm now doing the same with UnReal. I figure at the minimum I'll be able to experiment with physics.
I think at some point we will be able to come up with a universal vehicle simulator that allows you to race unless someone does it before us.
What I hate is that I think Rainbow already has one that's pretty good. The level that they have achieved with ATV Off Road Fury 2 and MXU is sufficient for my needs. They just need to release it and include the ability to customize the physics of the models that you add to it.
