Is there anything in the works to make the AI riders harder to beat? I've tried the no-stunt mod and the AI still is a joke.. is there anyway to turn off the player collision in single player mode? if the AI was better I'd play Mcm2 more often... anyway, great job you guys do here with everything.
Sorry, as far as i know none of the other TD guys are trying to improve the AI performace although we would like to. You could try to get a few people together on the TD zone if you want some real people to race against instead of the AI. :)

hey laurie ive been trying for a while to tweak so that my sx (257x257) could have a stunt maps tex (1920x1920) and i could“t figure it out but thats maybe something for the newer d2 version :)
Sry Myth it won't happen in the next version of D2, but who knows something like that might be possible, but i don't have all the terrain stuff down yet so it will probably be a while.
Laurie
ok man because it would be a great way with the ruts. it will look dope if it works lol!
You should try Hi-Def, that way you get increased terrain definition AND increased texture definition. Take a look at Jeff's Hi-Def tutorial if you haven't tried it before.

but the thing is that a highdef track is bigger (file size) and who needs 513 when u can use 257 when you can do exakt the same thing with it ;D
hi def tracks do not run well on my pc, if at all.
so my questions is...
what causes a bigger hit in performance, the larger disp map, or the textures?
if you could do as myth is trying, would it improve performance, or do the oposite and use a 513 disp map with 960 textues.
I would rather have the disp more precice (smaller ruts, etc) than the textures look better. Just because to me, how the track rides is more important. And why doesnt my computer bog down when riding a stunt map, and it does on hi def race track?
Truth is Mike i don't know, it depends on how Rainbow wrote the terrain render engine. It sounds like the number of polys rendered per frame gets larger when the grid strength gets smaller (because it's the renderred poly count that affects the render time the most - i think). This would be backed up by the fact that Stunt maps run smoother on your system than Hi-Def.
So maybe there is some merit in using bigger texs on SXs, but i'm not sure how soon i could implement that into D2..

As far as performance hit I think it depends on your video card. If you have a small memory video card then large textures can cause you a problem.
Hi Def (large dispmap) shouldn't by itself cause you a performance hit because of what MCM 2 does to the dispmaps. If it's flat there shouldn't be much difference. The more terrain detail the more data to display. That's the biggest factor. A highly detailed 257x257 should have more of a performance impact than a sparse 513x513.

thanks for the reply :)
