Title: Problem..
Post by: VMX_GravityX2 on December 19, 2004, 01:58:24 AM
Ok so here's the problem, awhile back me and my dad rebooted our whole computer to clean it out and now three of my cds that have just music videos on them don't work. The thing is before we rebooted, they worked perfectly fine. No there isn't any scratches on them what so ever. When I put them in the cd-rom it loads up then frezzes and I can't do anything on the computer unless I remove the cd. It's been like this for awhile and it has me pissed right off. I have six other cds with just music videos on them and they work fine. Just seems that three don't want to work, but they did for along time way before we rebooted. Any ideas of what might be causing them not to work?

No, it's not like what Alex's problem was. I tryed holdin' the shift-key down like two_four_ suggested in that topic, but it still doesn't seem to work. :-\
Thanks anyways though Dodgy.

I'm not sure what you mean about rebooting.  Rebooting is just shutting down and re-starting your computer.   Did you reinstall your operating system?  Reformat the hard drive.   Most likely the format of what's on the CD isn't recognized by your computer.  You may have had other software installed.  If you hold the shift key down that stops the OS from trying to launch what is on the CD.  Explorer will still try to figure out what is on the CD and look for icons and stuff.   This can cause your system to seem like it's locked up.  I would stick the CD in with the shift key down and then wait a while.  Leave it for like an hour and see if your system comes back.  If it does then your system is just having a hard time reading that CD.

Try the CD in a different computer also.    It may be that you just need to install/update some software on your computer (ie. windows media, real player, etc.).

I updated Windows Media Player and tryed the shift thing again and left it, still no luck. The light stays on and it frezzes. Though now it kind of glitches a bit every now and then but still nothing. Anything else that I should update? :-\

It may be a video Codec issue.  Try to find out what Codec's the videos need an make sure they are installed on your system.

How would I go about finding that information out? I don't have the slightest idea.

You can usually find out if you know the source of the video's.

I get them off Kazaa. People rip them and stuff so I don't believe I can find that type of information out. :'(

Mostly .mpeg is what I download. Might be .mov or .avi somewhere in there as well but I doubt it.

Well, I'm not sure if you've tried this, but sign up over at www.techguy.org and ask your question there.  A lot of computer wizzes hang out there so ask there and you should get a reply really soon.
