Title: Track Texture Tips?
Post by: gary664 on August 05, 2014, 08:42:29 PM
Hey ya'll... I'm just wondering if anyone out there has any tips or advice on creating good textures for reflex. I just released my first track but couldn't quite figure out how to make the track look more realistic.  I'm guessing it has to do something with the ChromLum Mask but i just cant figure it out..  Anyway im hoping someone out there could help me out so my future tracks are better looking. Thanks!

Hi Gary,

Yeah you're right, the ChromeLum is pretty important for adding variety to your dirt.  Just some quick info about it....

The RGB Channels act like "SoftLight" layer mode in Photoshop at around 25% layer opacity.
The Alpha Channel acts like "Color Dodge" layer mode at around 50% layer opacity.

You can use those layering modes in photoshop to give yourself a good idea of what will happen in game.  You may have to adjust the opacity of the layers though, as those values are roughly what I use to generate my TopDown image.

We're currently planning to update the Wiki page with all this kind of information in the coming weeks.  Hopefully some of this helps you for now...

Thanks for the help Jamie T.. would have  never guessed to change the opacity of those layers! As for updating the wiki page, that would be great... i looked into the wiki page originally  and it really didn't help out too much for explaining how to use the ChromeLum Mask..  Thanks for the reply!
