Finally it is possible to add your own skins to Reflex, TwistedDIRT brings you the MX Reflex Skin DLC Packager which supports building you're own DLC packages for Rider gear, Bike and ATV skins.
Warning: Using this program and the DLC packages that it generates will almost certainly cause your profile to be reset at some point. To avoid this you will need to deselect any custom rider/vehicle skins from the in-game Garage before you remove or replace any DLC packages. If Reflex tries to load a skin that is no longer available to it, then the game will crash and your profile will be reset.
The packager comes with wireframes for all of the supported gear and vehicles to get you started. You can create up to 25 custom skins per DLC (for gear DLCs) with DLC010, DLC011, DLC012, DLC013 used for gear, DLC014, DLC015, DLC016 used for Mx bikes and DLC017, DLC018, DLC019 used for ATVs.
Each skin set needs at least 1 texture to be replaced before it can be saved to a DLC, that is the diffuse texture, which is always the first tab on the texture tab set and usually is labelled 'Skin' or 'Plastics'. The grey light will only turn green (which means the texture will be included in the DLC package) when this skin has been replaced. Some other textures have been included in most sets if you want to play with them but they are not needed to make a new skin set. If you have changed the textures in a skin set but not the diffuse skin, then the light turns orange to tell you that you have made changes but the skin set will not be saved to DLC.
You only need this tool if you want to create skins. It creates DLC packages that you will be able to download from sites like reflex-central.com or mxmaniacs.com and then you can install these skins by copying the unzipped download files to your \Database folder in your MXReflex install folder. Remember to de-select any custom skins before you install a new DLC packages.

is there anywhere i can post my psd file of the troy lee honda i made so that people can have an idea of what goes where. i have labeled each part of the wire frame with the correct part name to the best of my ability.
Post a link to it here might be as good as anywhere.. If you are happy with people using it as a basis for their own skins then a PSD is fine otherwise you might want to use a JPG or PNG and reduce the size to something more easily viewable on screen.
If you haven't got anywhere to upload the file and you want others to be able to d/l it then email me and i'll stick it on the TD server for you. Otherwise mxmaniacs you can upload skin files, should allow you to u/l a PSD file if that's what you want to do..

im a bit confused about how the whole DLC thing works, ive managed to put 3 seperate models of bikes into one dlc pack however i'd like to know how i can have more of the same model in one dlc pack
for example i want to do more honda 450s but i already hav the tld honda in that place
one 450 of each brand per pack. one 250 of each brand per pack. this just replaces the 3 dlc bike packs that came with reflex.
I seen that troy lee bike on mxmamiacs it looked sexy!!!
it kinda sucks but the best thing is probably to team up and release full packs as there is only three slots so it makes sense to have them full.

-one pack for full US factory teams like, muscle milk Honda 450, troy lee Honda 250(your bike would fit here nice!), jgr Yamaha 450, star Yamaha 250, red bull ktm 450, Yoshi Suzuki, pro circuit kawi 250 (ive done this) ect

Nothing is replaced from the stock game. These custom skin packs were just
based on those skin DLCs that came with the game. Basically just using them as a guide.
Uploads on Central are slightly broken at the moment guys. You can upload packs like Mototank has done to the tracks section, and I will move them once everything is fixed. The problem is to do with the size limit of the files you can upload. It's a long story, but I've had to contact my hoster, and they're trying to figure out the problem. All their suggestions so far haven't worked. The issue seems to be server side, with something I've got no control of.
Hello guys. this game quite old and new 2013-2014 bicycles will be suitable for it not all) But for UNLEASHED many excellent skins, 2009-2010 the bicycle were made. Whether as you think we can use skins from MCMFactory for REFLEX and whether there will be guys against? There after all there were magnificent skins of GALA, RUIS KOVALSKI and many other guys) I have no with them communications, probably someone from you know mail, or communicates with them?

we should use your two two honda that looks sweet AL167, and for the 450 kawi definately needs to be RV kawi no doubt. as far as making the 2 strokers im not too familiar with what the major teams were during their era so if someone could just make a list like AL167 has done with the most popular skins for the 250s i can get started. Also imma get started on Yoshimira suzuki tonight and let me know if no one else wants to do RV Kawi cuz ill do it. thnx!
P.S. im re-editing JGR to look a lil better and converting the TLD and rockstar bike to lites bikes should be done by today. lemme know what skins for the AMA pack no one else wants to do ill do emm

flarer#245 just PM'd me for feedback on his skin, and I thought I'd repeat the advice to you guys...
Using vector shapes in Photoshop is a great way to make flowing lines and shapes quickly. If you look at the seat of Flarer's Honda Martin Racing skin you will see that it's very pixelated where the red meets the white. This is not good! :( Using vector shapes though, creates nice and smooth edges, giving you a much more professional finish to your work! :)
Remember, don't rush these skins guys. Take your time and the effort will show through in the quality! ;) Good to see so many guys sinking their teeth into this though.

I was wondering if a gear pack is also in the works? I heard Jamie is working on some stuff, so I assume once the bikes are done everyone will start working on a huge gear pack to go along with the bikes. I wouldn't mind helping out with it or getting a few slots for me to fill. I've been working on some gear over the past few days and I'm starting to get into making replicas of real gear designs. I've released 2 packs so far. First one was basically just all the semi-decent looking skins I made within the first 24 hours of having the wireframe. The other one was a One Ind. camo kit I just made for fun yesterday. They are both on Reflex Central & MXManiacs if you want to check them out. They aren't the best work in the world but I'm progressing. Let me know about the pack, was thinking about attempting Reed's 2015 Shift Washougal gear.

All I've done with skins so far is make the Chad Reed Fox V4 replica helmets.. Someone else has made the 2013 & 2014 Shift Faction gear, so I thought I make the matching helmet for the pack. The skins are as they would be if you bought them in stores. There are no logos to suggest its a Chad Reed set of gear. Also remaking the normal map to turn the V3 helmet into a V4... (sort of).. :P
GrantD - If you're making skins for the Fox V3, you'll need to make a new effects map. The Red channel is shine, Green channel is the places where mud builds up, Blue channel seems to be nothing. If you notice the shine on the stock V3, you will see it goes abit strange on the visor. It's because Rainbow didn't even put the correct effects map into the game. They also messed up the normal map quite a lot.. ::) Other issues are that the custom effects map for the V3 isn't being saved to the "on-track" DLC package, but hopefully it will be fixed later on... And finally, normal maps don't show up at all once you get "on-track" for ANY helmet. Seems to be the way Rainbow intended it to be, or yet another mistake... :( Maybe that will be fixed by us eventually.

I think you aren't disabling the wireframe layer before you save the bitmap. There are no issues with the gear that would cause it to show the wireframe like that. It's something you're doing wrong on your end I'm afraid.

Message to all you guys releasing skin packs...Please, please, please include a readme file with your skins telling people to unequip their old gear or graphics before they install a new one. Otherwise you're going to get bombarded with messages such as "Skins crash my game!!! :'(", "This broken!!!! >.<", etc... :P

The solution generally, is to reinstall the last gear you had so that it can be unequipped. Although you may still get other problems where you cannot change skins at all, and therefore will need to reset your profile. These DLC packages are a high risk to idiots! We need to educate where we can! :-*
Shouldn't it work if you just have a savegame file if the game crashes?
I've had mixed results when trying to revert back to an old save file. Sometimes it worked, other times the profile would just become reset.
A sure fire way to reset your profile is to open savegame.bxml in a hex editor, and remove the last 4 bytes. Those 4 bytes are what syncs your profile to Steam I believe.

This is not to sound like a total dick to you guys posting textures here.. But really, it looks like most of you are rushing your work to bits, taking the easy way by just copy pasting images on top of one another. A route I would strongly recommend AVOIDING! It's not a race who can produce the most at the fastest pace. So please, do not treat it as so. I agree with JvdL. There are a LOT of guys using the copy paste methode right now.

John, what do you think about the uvmapping? I guess it's standard done by Rainbown studios, but IMO it could've been way better. There is tons of free space that could've been used to get better details on the diffuse map.
A little project I started. Not exactly spot on yet. For exampel the white part on pants are a little bit missplaced I belive.
And some other details as you can see. Just wanted tp hear a little feedback from you guys.

How about some normal maps (http://"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normal_mapping")? Anyone worked on these yet, other than Jamie and myself? Its really the crown on any type of gear and helps bring the whole package to life.
Bikes sadly make no use of normals, but a proper effects texture is the difference between having a old mopped or a brand new ready to race super machine! Can control stuff such as mud overlay, illumination and levels of reflection with these.

Yeah I'm doing normal maps as well... think it's the most time consuming part of skinning, getting all the seams, folds and fabric textures right takes time. I agree it's the crown, without it textures just look flat ass lol

i found a bug that more than just myself are experiencing. it is where if you have custom honda 450 ( or any other bike i assume) in both dlc14 and dlc15 ( prob dlc16 too) it will only show the one you have equip even though others might be using a separate dlc. so like if i hav dlc14 honda i'll see only dlc14 honda's on everyone else even if they are using a dlc15 honda. i dont know if others have noticed that aswell. let me know if you dont understand.

i have only encountered this issue with bikes, i havent worked with anything else. also the on the kx450f the kawasaki name on the seat isnt backwards in if you were to go into bike select via motocareer but in-game the name is backwards im so confused.

There was a similar issue for the rider gears. But that got fixed by Laurie.
In all honesty, I dont think Jamie and I tested different bike DLC packages together... Sorry laurie! :(

The reason my work looks clean(er) is because I use vectors for nearly everything. This is a format that will allow you to transform (scale/rotate/skew/warp/etc) any given object without quality loss. So this is a HUGE plus when placing down logo's for example.

This has to do with the fact that in menu, and in game models, are different from eachother.
Look at my KTM for example. The fork guard decals seem mirrored in the menu, but are perfectly fine while riding. This sadly is an issue we won't be able to fix until we can swap model files.
My advice is to make the in game version look like how you want it, seeing that will be what is in your screen most of the time.
John - no problem you guys did a great job testing, it's a serious PITA to double check all the corss referenced IDs but looks like maybe i missed something just one of those things. Hopefully it's not a big issue that stops the skins being useable until i can get to a fix.

Hi. I have made multiple skins for MX simulator and I really really want to make them for flex. I can't get to any temps through the packager. every time I select which bike i want, there is nothing in the folders. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!

They're in the loaction where the packager is in installed.

when you talk about folders do you mean the folders in the skin packager, if so then you might have the wrong idea about the packager. You have to load up the textures that you make into it, then it just compiles them into DLC. The templates are a separate thing, they are just a bunch of BMP files in a folder called 'wireframes' (as Jamie explained) in the packager installation folder, that you can load into Photoshop. They don't apear in the packager anywhere.
If your wireframes folders are empty then the install didn't work properly and you either need to install them again and/or re-download the installer..

I found where the wireframes were but im clueless as to where to go from there. Im not a skinning noob lol I skin on MX Sim all the time. Im just used to having a template to work with and not having to start from wireframes!
:) As far as i see it wirefames are templates, you paint over the wireframes to make the skin - how much easier could it be, you don't want the people who worked on this tool to have all the fun do you..?
My philosophy is to leave some of this stuff for other people to do and then they can get a buzz from making their own contribution to the community. But if you don't share this mindset then i think someone has made more detailed templates and posted them on mxmaniacs.com which might be what you are looking for, otherwise you're going to have to start with the wireframes..
Not sure what else you need other than a wireframe? What other bits were you expecting? I thought they were pretty clear to see which part was what imo. All you're skinning is the plastics, and a few other bits, no need to make an engine or frame texture. I think Mototank had made up an image which says which part is what... Maybe that was more of what you expected? I'm sure if you send him a PM he would help you out.
Ok just making sure that is all i had to do. That is the easy part. I made a graphics cutout for the Suzuki 450 in PS of JUST THE BIKE GRAPHICS. Where would I get the motor and lever graphics and stuff? Plastics and bike graphics is the easy part of all of this. That is all done and I will post a pic later! Just need motor graphics so my png will look like al167's in the seat blending topic.
Levers are top right of the wireframe on all bikes if i remember right, the engines (as well as wheels, tires and some of the suspension parts) are on different textures, but they aren't user skinnable.

No long time no read.. No need to ask just go ahead make a tutorial . The wireframes are the only templates provided, they of course can be loaded into Photoshop, but if you want to create something else go ahead on that as well.. I think someone put a bike template up on MxManiacs along with a skin pack but that's the only publicly released one that i know of..

If you have the packager it will put it in the game for you when you package the skin. Just select the bike that you are skinning from the list on the left, when the Bike tab is selected. Load up the bike skin that you created (best in BMP format) then click the pack button, select the DLC slot number you want to put it in and let it compile.. Next time you run the game your skin will appear in the graphics sets section of the Garage|My Rides menu..

I see the problem so i'll put it on the todo list. As a temporary fix you could copy the following file (you will probably need to make new folders) for Steam from:
C:\Program (X86)\Steam\config\config.vdf
to:
C:\Program Files\Steam\config\config.vdf
That should do it..

Hello. In general, you need to check in the game, in the race. In the menu, and in the race seems use different cards, maybe even a model. And in some cases, developers have made a mistake.

It might be possible to add the frame, wheels and other accessories to the DLC packager. I had a look at that becaus JvdL also wanted that but for some reason that I can't remember it wasn't so easy as the other parts - probably because the RBW DLC didn't give us examples of how to do this for those parts, just the graphics kits.

I like to try to keep all the tools i write as up to date as i can but now there are quite a few of them so it takes me a long time to get round to all of them. I don't have a schedule for this but i do want to get back to it at some point and make it as complete as possible. With MvA Sx coming to PCs soon there might be a few more tools to build and maintain so that could also become a factor..

Hey everyone. I have a question about creating skins. When loading up the packager for the first time, it asks for the location where Reflex is installed, in the C drive under program files. However, my Reflex (as well as all of steam) is installed in my D drive. Do I need to move files into the program files folder? If so, which ones?

It asks you that because it can't find your Reflex installation. When it asks you that, it should show you a window so you can select the folder where Reflex is installed. Once you select the folder, it should work just fine without moving files. You need to select the root folder, so where the MXReflex.exe file is found..
Right, but when the window opens, it only lets me select folders in the program folders files of the C drive. There's no way for me to go backwards and select the different drive where it's actually installed.

No, you don't "edit" any skins. You only make new skins.

Then look in the install directory for "Wireframes" folder. That will give you a guidline to start making new skins.

I'm not sure if this has been patched yet but I am unable to locate my steam folder because I put steam on a second partition and the software only allows me to select steam from within the Programs files. Steam is in my second partition aka "Local Disk (D:)" as apposed to the standard "Local Disk (C:). So I cannot open the software, is there a way around this?
from memory,
make dummy folders in the c location copying all game data over aswell:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\MX vs ATV Reflex
then after you compile a track, copy the track files to the other d directory version.
probably would be easier to just reinstall in that location.
The packager should be able to find Reflex on your D: drive now, though Steam swaps things around from time to time so it may stop working again at some point. So there is also a last resort that if it can't find it it will ask you to select the games root folder and store that for future use.
Did you try it and it didn't work?

I think brands are only possible for bikes at the moment.
Finally I startet to creating skins too 8) Last time I did this was for MCM2 long time ago... Doing skins for reflex is a little more complicated but after spending some time with the DLC packager I think I got it...
But I just don't understand how to change the color of name & number on the jersey. Can someone help me?

To get the game working again, go to your Reflex\Database folder, look for the DLC pack number you were compiling to and delete all the files with DLCXxxx where xxxx is the number of the DLC pack you were trying to compile in them. The game should start again after that.
Have you used 9.5.2 before or is this the first time?
Karpuha i have the same problem for dlc 10-13 :-\ I uninstall the 9.5.2 and instal again 9.5.1.If you want file 9.5.1 tell me.

szalonym1 thank you. I did so, and returned the 9.5.1 version and it works.
Thanks for the feedback looks like my quick fix introduced some new problems thanks to updates to the code base from the DE changes. Anyway that should now be fixed in Skin packager v0.9.5.3.
While i was looking i added custom brands to the rider gear. (Still no bike part skins possible, that would be a big update).
To add a custom gear brand, add a brand in the same way you would for the bike/atv graphics using the Brand tab. Then when you select your skin in the Gear tab, there is a new dropdown box in the skin properties sheet (the yellow area at the top of the right hand side of the screen. Here you can choose from the original RBW brand for the skin or one of your custom brands.

I have a big problem, I have the game installed in the folder Program x86 but the ReflexSkinDLC can olny find the Programs folder.... what should I do ??? ( sry for bad english) plz Help me :( :(
My reflex is not from steam, could that be a problem ???

cant you register the game in steam and then install it from steam? there's a small tab on the left-down corner.

Someone please help me, this is driving me nuts, I've been trying to get the no-number thing to work, spent two days already, did everything I was supposed to do (at least i think i did). These are the steps i took: STEP 1. create separate image in GIMP with 128x128 pixels, Resolution: 72.00 pixels/in, Color Space: RGB Color, Fill with: Background Color, Click OK. STEP 2. Click on Layer tab, Click on Transparency, Click on Add Alpha Channel. STEP 3. Click on Layer again, Click on Transparency again, Click on Color To Alpha, change color to black, Click OK. STEP 4. Click on File, Click on Export As..., Click on Desktop, name file as testnumber.bmp, Click on Export, Export As BMP options window pops up, Click on Advanced, Click on A8R8G8B8 under 32-Bit, Click on Export. STEP 5. Start up Reflex Skin Packager, make bike and brand names, add appropriate skins to each, Click on Numbers tab, upload the testnumber.bmp file, Click on Save As MX skin DLC 16, DLC Saved window pops up, Click on Ok. STEP 6. Start up Reflex, go to Garage, select Shima 450f, hover over new brand name, and all the plastics are pitch black.
Someone please tell me if i am doing something wrong!
Sounds like the alpha channel isn't actually being saved for some reason.. or that it's white.
Haven't used GIMP in years, but do you need to do step 3?
"Click on Layer again, Click on Transparency again, Click on Color To Alpha" - not too sure what that means, but in photoshop it's generally just a case of adding an alpha channel, and then using the paint bucket tool to fill it with black. I dunno.. it seems like you're doing everything correctly when you save/export though, so I'm a bit puzzled about that's going on. Have you removed all the layers by flattening the image? Just wondering if the background still holds a white alpha maybe..? :-/
I got it! Thanks JamieT for telling me about the flatten image thing! All I had to do was color to alpha, pick the color black, then flatten the image, and color to Alpha again, pick black, and imported it into the game and it worked!! Problem solved, thanks a lot! :D

I recently downloaded the skin packager and whenever I try and open it says I am missing file d3dx9_33.dll if anyone can please tell me where to find this file or fix the problem without me getting like spyware o anything that would be fantastic, thanks!
It is normally installed as part of DX9.0c which is what you usually need to run Reflex. You can try downloading and installing DirectX9.0c from Microsoft. Or try this post:

Every time I saved skinlist within a custom rider skin with a custom brand, close the packager and open skinlist again, my custom rider skin shows up with a stock brand >:( Has anyone faced the same problem? How to solve this?

I may be possible but from my quick and low understanding of modding, I think it might require digging into the texture files of the bike models themselves, since the frame, engine, wheels and other parts aren't apart of the graphics texture, meaning a second texture to create for that customization. I have messed around with extracting/ripping some game files, I have found some textures where it's the engine texture only. That's about all I know. :-\

hey, i was wondering why in the packager, the dakumoto 450 quad doesnt show up? in mine i have 2 dakumoto 400's, but i need the 450 to make a replica of my dad's quad. any help on how to get the 450 back? thanks
