Title: See if anyone can figure this out.
Post by: VMX_krazyman821 on December 01, 2004, 11:01:41 PM
I consider myself to be pretty computer literate, but this one has me stumped!!I just got a new PC last month and all is /was well.I didnt have any anti-virus programs installed and tonite I was trying to install Mcafee Virus Scan Version 8.I put the disc in,click install and ......nothing...doesnt' run, doesnt do anything but go back to desktop,so I go online,do a goofle search...punch in Mcafee Virus Scan Version 8......stuff comes up....and boom....boots me back to desktop! So,then I punch in Norton Antivirus...same thing....back to desktop.I go to Symantec.com....same thing again. It seems anything pertaing to antivirus and I get kicked off.If I do anything else that has nothing to do with virus names,I am fine.
Any one have any clue?? Do I have a virus? All I want to do is install something to scan for viruses and I cant.I am really lost on this one. >:( :( :-\

Sounds like someone/something does not want you to run a Virus Scan. Have you tried a few different searches for virus scans? How about Micro Trends Home virus scan. It's free online. Might be worth a shot. Try it, let us know what happens after that.

Yep...it sounds like your system is infected.  Typically I would just reformat the hard drive and start from scratch.  But you may not want to do that.  You could try AVG Anti-Virus and see if that will install.  Here's a link to their free version.

Good luck,
