I dunno why I am so attached to this game. I guess it is because I have spent just about my whole teenage life playing this game. If it wasn't for MCM2, I would not know anything about a computer. I have learned so much from building tracks and objects. So what I want to do is try and get people to help give MCM2 a little jump start. Here are a few suggestions, lets see some more.
1. Set up a couple nights a week for racing on the TD Zone.
2. Get involved in the VMX Ghost challenge (If Glen don't mind ;) )
3. Start a revolution of Track making. I would love to see a more retro style of track making. Remember the good ole days? When you could race online with 8 people on dirttwister SX or tracks of that same style?
That would be awsome man I used to love racing on the zone and having like 400 othe people in a room now theirs like 45 of em online it sucks.
Jump start mcm again. Thats a tall order, I cant see anything that can revive it. Its just gotten stale, ya its good but we've spent 1000's of hours playing the exact same thing. I have to take time off it because it gets too boring. Look at the peeps hyped about MTX, they like it only because its new, a change, refreshing. But onlygoing to last for so long. What we obviously need is a whole new game built only for pc, as expandable as it is now, a complicated track editor like Chrome Ed (so only serious, quality creators can use it) also the game needs up to date coding, unlike the bloated way mcm2 was made.
Dont let me stop you from making an effort, but Im just saying what a lot of other peeps think about the situation. Will there ever be another mx pc game with the impact and following mcm2 did? I doubt it.
I see what your saying man, and thats why I would love to see people taking more interest in MCM2 again. There never will be another game like this one.
Maybe TD has one last trick up there sleeve?
Indeed they do...I hear we will have an updated bikeswitcher coming up soon with some new rider models.
Alex,Like I posted,I like MTX,but I am partial to MCM2.If we can get people together to race on the zone, hold tourneys and stuff, that would be a good start.I mean...people...wake up....Laurie made this kick-ass online racing zone for us and no one is ever on it!!! Lets race!! Another thing is some newer track makers need to really READ the tuts before uploading tracks, with so many of the great creators leaving,we need others to step up to the plate.I myself do not plan on stopping track making,I'm starting another as we speak.Maybe, some of the older creators will get bored and return, but if not, then we need to keep going for as long as we can also.I have 4 years into this game,it is still the best one out there!
I agree with Bernie(tnt)that a new game with an editor and all that is what we need...MCM3???,but thats not going to happen...at least I dont think so.
I'm with Alex.....KEEP THIS GOING!!!
well i heard someone was making something for mcm2 what would help it out... maybe TD? idk i might be wrong tho...
all the suggestions u made sky sound good to me. im stil way into this game i still love to terr up some of the ruff tracks that have been comming out. but for sure the tdzone race night, would be a huge plus! because then everybody would know wen to come and what to expect so that sounds the best. :)
I think it's what I said, cause extreme had been wanting bruce to get around to updating the bikeswitcher so we would be able to mix and match the rider models and bike models. Bruce told me that it would be around a month or so before he would release it.

that would be sooo sweet get to choose what ever rider on what ever bike!.
Yeah and then have people make rider models just like they do with the bike models...can you say wicked screenshots?
Well, I don't know if we anything that would revive MCM2 to its glory days. As TNT_wfo said, that's a pretty tall order...but we are working on something to put under your Christmas trees. :) Now don't ask because I won't tell...that would ruin the present, wouldn't it? Just be patient and hopefully what we give you will bring a smile to your faces and give you a few more hours of MCM2 enjoyment. :)

i love this time of year!!! now im incredible intreeged to know hahaha ....but ill wait :P
X-mas rules DAWG
Awesome...wonder what would happen if mcm2 lived on to next Christmas?
Thats what these guys are trying to do
I know that man, I'm wondering what the probability is that it will still be around next holiday season...I've been around this game longer than you have bud...
Well, I can tell you that Twisted DIRT will still be here...and the Christmas after that...and so on, and so on. When everyone has come and gone we'll still be around. :)
...And really, why not? We are all friends, many of which I've either met in person or talked to on the phone or whatever. We'll still be doing little things here and there. We never really worry about if the game is dead or dying off...we still like it and like making tracks and tools for it. If it weren't MCM2 it would be some other MX game that we all liked. Right now I don't see why it would go away. Just my $0.02.

No don't take that as an insult man I am just saying how great these guys are for tryin to keep this game alive
Peace bro
free Heineken with every purchase
its allways been twisted dirt, ask what keeps this game alive and its the boys at TD. 8)
As long as there is no better game then mcm2 there is no reason to say goodbye to anything. Good example is Counter-Strike. The game is age old but people play it like crazy anyways. The only thing this game needs is to get back online again. IMO. :)
Yeah, no hard feelings Suzuk...it was just the way you said it that made me sound like I didn't know what I was talking about. Glad to hear that this site will still be around for a long time to come...although I barely know any of you guys, I'm still glad to hear it. :)
well ive talked to jeff about this and he said its more then possible... so i have an idea that ya'll might like nd might keep u playing mcm2 for a while...i just have to wait for laurie to come back.. i need to talk to him about it frist then ill give u guys the news
Do you mean that you have an idea, or Jeff has an idea...it sounded a little unclear.
He has an idea bunny. ;)
Guys, this is is exactly what I wanted to hear. I can't WAIT for Christmas now jeff. :D I guess the only thing to do now is set up an online race night. The zone doesn't work for me, but I can do IP or TD Zone. I can do it any time monday through friday from 11:00-2:00pm Central Time and then anytime Monday through Thursday 7pm til whenever.
I can do it pretty much whenever I'm on the computer.
Thanks for clearing that up Alex. :)
the game will never die for me. I move on to new games or systems, but only for a short while, then they get old. But I always come back to mcm. Everyone knows its the custom tracks, riders, bikes, etc that keep this game alive. It sure isnt the online racing anymore. I just can't understand why game makers don't realize this.
But as for me, I'm always up to do some online laps, its just catching me when I'm not busy that's the hard part.
The way I feel is that I will play MCM 2 until another MX game comes along that I can make tracks for. MCM 2 does what it does and does it well.
Bruce
a riders patch from mxu for mcm2, thats on my wish list
haha but nooooooooo, it cant be done
i dunno
You guys are getting me excited for Christmas. I can't wait to see what TD unveils. :D
Will what Jeff talked about change the game? NO, but it will be a huge suprise (don't ask me either as I am sworn to silence) But it will be a big hit!!
dam u all i must know now!!!! ;D ;D j/k
IMO, MCM2 is really close to death. MTX: Mototrax is the 2nd to the last nail in the coffin.

I believe I've heard that one before...but that's OK. I'll still be playing it for years even if I'm by myself...
Jeff
I'll be here still, oh an btw Jeff, someone *cough* ddub *cough* is using your avatar on fmtx...lol
ill still be here too! like td said ill play this until there is a game that can replicate or top what this one can do with trakc bikes skins etc etc......
its prob the rider model thing, if thats it i dont think it would be that big of a hit, sure it would be cool but i dunno...
Or maybe they're planning something we're not even thinking of... :-X
:-X :)

I think i might have hit the nail on the head, according to your wordless reply eh Jeff?
lol
Aaron
So, Jeff, Laurie, DirtTwister... are we talking 40? ;D
No, it means I ain't saying nothin! ...And those of you who may have heard something better not blow it! >:(
lol! :) With my luck the cat will be out of the bag before the 25th...
Jeff
I had a 40 last night, it made me sick! No worries. ;)

Since the Zone been working then not work off, and on. Had an idea that we have to try to start to make people to go to gamespy. When you can get in the zone mcm2 room, tell people should go there. I dont have that many ideas, but it might help out a bit if we have something that works, and play mcm2 on.
You can get gamespy here
http://www.gamespyarcade.com/download/
Hope to see at the races... ;D
if that big supprise turns out to be riders models... well whoopy, yay.. not really if that is called a big hit then......... seriously though a rider model will not make this game alive again and more people will be riding it...
Lets just wait it out till it comes out. and play MTX online :D
I never said it would be a "big hit", Dave did. I just said it would be a "Present". I'm sure some of you will think it's a big hit, others of you could probably care less. All I said was that it would give you a few more hours of MCM2 enjoyment...which assumes that you enjoy it right now. If you don't, then what's the point of hanging around and trying to bring it down?
Jeff
might it be a few new TD christmas track pack ? that would own
hmm...how about rider models and something even better?
I hope...
It's best to just wait and see instead of having it spoiled before Christmas
a patch that makes the rider more real and sounds like MXU
and maybe if it were possible, be able to change the physics a little...but nah, i doubt it.
Hey, I don't want anyone to get their hopes up that high. Changing the physics of the game would take a major hack of the EXE and even then I don't know if it's possible (Laurie might). That's not to say it will never happen but that's not what the TD Christmas present is about. Sorry guys. If we figure out how to do that some day I'm sure we will try and make it happen (without getting sued from Microsoft of course!!).
But...I still think you'll enjoy what we will give you. :)
Jeff
<---Requesting that you delete this post ASAP TD! ;)
The surprise isn't an updated bike switcher, but that will be happening also. The update to bikeswitcher isn't so much as adding rider models as in allowing you to select multiple packages. Right now it's possible to create a package with a rider model and a bike but then they are tied together. I'm working out some kinks now and don't confuse it with the surprise Jeff is talking about.
Bruce
sweet man good enough for me.
well...I have no idea what it is then...can't wait to find out, but it's great that we may hopefully be able to mix and match bike and rider models. :)
;D
CANT WAIT....................... ;D ;D ;D
How about we get Mr. Mcue to finish that killer track thats been brewing for about......a year? That wouyld be a great stocking stuffer! The rest of the mortals would be enthralled.
Yeah you know it's like we gets lots of stuff in stockings and then a big TD present....lol.
But for real, the guys at TD will always be great.
Well i will be happy with what ever it is 8) and i will allways make tracks but what gets me is win people say they dont have the time any more well if you got the time to type that thin you had time to start a track thats like saying im gona through out my TV cous i dont have time to watch it you might not but you still turn it on every now and thin. Win you say you dont have time do do it well thares no time limit to makeing stuff or playing a game is thare just do a lil every now and thin and win you finish share it. ::)
I don't know about you, but time is a big issue for me. I go to college and my time is scarce. When I work on a track I spend atleast a month on it. My last one took almost 3. I want it to be perfect so I need a lot of TIME to finish it. Just working here and there may help, but I need to be able to site down and work for a few hours at a time to get a good product.
I need to stir the pot on Mike's track. I've always loved testing his stuff because it comes the closest to feeling like really riding. A group of guys on a Saturday morning exploring some of his terrain is the most fun that I've had with MCM 2.
Bruce
I can tell you what MCM2 doesnt need. Its this garbage (http://www.mcmfactory.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1364)
Now I remember why I quit going to that forum looooooooooooong ago wfo
Until they get a mod I dont think it will ever change either.................. :'(
Well i think its places like Twisted Dirt and VRT that helped keep this game alive . They are very well moderated and have a professional approach. Thx guys for keeping a positive place to go, wether its MCM, MTX or just motocross talk witch is what we all have in common. I cant wait till Christmas :D

agreed. 10 min here, 15 there, won't add up to a good track. I don't even start a track unless I have 4 to 5 hours to knock out a solid layout and terrain. Lately I havnt had one spare hour so......
And folks at TD, can't wait. Presents from everyone, improved bike switcher from Bruce, and something else from Jeff, thanks in advance guys ;D
true that...awesome

Jeff
is there anyway to lower the effect of preload?
Get everyone you race with to use the keyboard only. :D
Jeff
Your preload is completely variable. If you drag the brakes as you go over a jump you almost cling to the ground.
If you are talking about limiting the potential preload that anyone can get then you need to design your tracks so that they don't have much upslope on the face of the jump and round the tops of the jumps off.
Bruce
thats how i limit my seat bounce just drag the brakes up the face.
how do you drag the brakes?? if i hit the button there on or off arnt they? not like in real life where you limit the presure you use.
or am i missing somthing here.
Ian.

brake set up in the garage it works i have my brakes set up to where i have to tap them a few times to come to a full stop it works dude at least i think it does haha.. anyway just mess around with brake set up and how sensitive your button pressure is in the options menu if u have a controler u are playing with i play with a ps2 controler and this is my set up. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v355/Thormx985/setup.jpg)
You have analog brakes. If you just push the brake button that is what I consider dragging the brakes. If you pull back on the joystick you then apply more braking pressure. So if you go over a jump with the brakes on and pull all the way back on the stick you should go as low as you can go for that jump.
Bruce
is there any way to make the bike and rider reset on the spline high in the air, instead of the rider always reseting on the ground? Meaning, if you raise a node up or down, have the rider reset there.
This could make for some interesting tracks with obejcts. (and get rid of getting stuck in the tunnel jumps every time I crash on one)
dont crash ;) jk
Ian.
humm n e new on n e thing?
What about the thing you were going to talk to Laurie about?
already in progress
Ok good, will it be around Christmas that we find out what it is?
i donno
Just wanted to let you guys know that we (TD) haven't forgotten about this. Some of us are working our butts off to make this happen. :)
The original plan for our Christmas present just became overwhelming so we are shooting for a Christmas present and then a New Years Day present. Don't hold us to that New Years Day date but we are definitely trying.
Jeff
so should we expect something on x-mas?
Yes, Christmas morning sometime (I'm guessing EST to be specific, but NOT right when the clock strikes midnight! lol!). Just refresh the main TD page then. Hopefully all will go well with everything we have to finish....
Jeff
Glad to hear it Jeff. Im getting excited but dont rush anything. :)
Thanks.
Have you ever heard of "the gift that keeps on giving", well that's kind of what it's like. Even after the first of the year we will be giving and giving. :)
Jeff
Sweet! So you have lots of stuff in store for us then? :D
:)
hey jeff. if u can.. can u make a update on the bike switcher so we can use SLT models again?
That won't be happening. If you have a working SLT we'll be glad to make a package (pkg) for it.
Bruce
That's really a question for Bruce, not me. I don't think we want to go that way because if you have SLTs that you don't want hacked, then you wouldn't want to do that. Perhaps one day (no promises) we could put out some kind of packager that would allow you to package your models for use with BikeSwitcher. This would allow you to protect your own stuff (if you want to) as well as share it in the game with everyone else.
I'm not sure if we'll get to that point, we'll (the TD guys) have to discuss all the pro's and con's...
Jeff
SLT is getting poplair lol
Hmm it's true bikes are easy to hack or rip when there SLT... just run them trough a little prog (I aint saying what prog hehe) and tada the ripper can modify it to his needs and off course upload saying "I spend 2 weeks on this!"
Hmm I think you (TD) should actually work on a SLT to PKG packager to go public... When my SLT exporter is done (I'm planning on bike support for it) it would be cool to just pack ur exported bike to PKG.

Can't wait, the frontpage hasn't been updated in a while. :)

:P
We've had server issues and security issues. Our main server guy (server owner and bankroller of the bandwidth) has had his time taken up with personal issues. I'm hoping we can start 2005 off with a bang and get back to normal. You may have noticed the forum isn't running on the Twisted DIRT server which it had been running on at the beginning of this year.
Bruce
As long as its up and running right? ;D
I think the game needs a track making competition, encourages the old guys to come back and make another track and will make guys want to race the tracks on the zone
yeah were are some track makers aka, loz, whiteboy, rocket?

how about u td guys host it??? if you guys did a contest people would be sure to enter
How about after we get the MXU stuff done. :) I'm busy as hell right now...and will be for quite some time. Right now there's about 5 or so active members and the rest kind of float in and out occasionally. Bruce has always done a good job managing our contests. I would vote for having him do it again when he feels up for it. :)
Jeff
also wen the mxu tracks are done mayb a contest on them:)
