how do you get rid of the default lighting in max for when you render track shadows? So you leave only the "sun" light.
I see too many tracks with both these lights, and it makes it look funny.

remove the ambient...make it black or whatever...

If a light is aimed straigh at the track it gives this effect... you aim it at the track from an angle... example:
