Title: UE2 problem
Post by: JamieT on January 25, 2009, 09:50:39 PM
When i save a track and lock for release in ue2, The editor seems to freeze when it's near the end of saving the track, around the part where it saves the .col files i think. I've opened up the .scn file, and the objects collision info (at the end of scn file) seems uncomplete.. It saves the info for my custom objects, but not much else... When playing the track in the game all the custom objects work perfectly, but the stadium now has no collision, and i can ride straight through it... Anyone have any ideas how to fix this? Also, i find that after exporting a track from ue2, if i unpack then repack the track again with multi-ex, the track doesnt work anymore. Does ue2 do something special that multi-ex un-does??

any help would be much appreiciated

thanks

QuoteIt saves the info for my custom objects, but not much else...

Do you mean it doesn't save all of the COL files to the PAK, or it doesn't have all the COL files listed in the SCN file? You only need COL files in the PAK that aren't stock, that's why UE2 only loads the custom object files, but you obviously need all the files listed in the SCN file. The staium parts would be added to the PAK when you create the track using the stock editor and UE2 shouldn't remove them, but sounds like somehow they got stripped from the PAK. If you send me the broken PAK file i can take a look at it, it might help me to find out what's going wrong with UE2..

To be honest i don't know because i don't use multi-ex, but it looks like it does something different..

Thanks for getting back to me, I've emailed you the pak and scn files. It was saved on ue2 on windows vista, so I'm going to try installing ue2 on an xp machine, and see if i get anything different when i saved the track. I will let you know what happens soon..

Just an update, tried it on XP, and exactly the same thing. Ive even tried saving a track with just a disp and a stadium placed (Its the stock anaheim looking one), but UE2 is still stripping away col data from the scn, or jus not re-writing them correctly?. The stock startline is also missing collision data.

Thanks for taking so much trouble amd the feedback, there seems to be a problem with the stadium packing. I will ty to fix it in a future update but not too sure when that will be since i am taking UE2 development into a different direction which is taking almost all my time.

its ok now, I figured a way around the problem. I've gone back to using multi-ex to just add my custom objects in, instead of using UE2. I realised that some of my SLTs didnt convert to DXG properly which caused them to conflict somehow with some of my other objects. Ive re-converted them with the latest SLT to DXG, and now every object works perfectly from paking with multiex, and i can crash into the stadium again:) Thanks for you help :) Really looking forward to seein what it is you'll be releasing!
